Moms to be Part 4

Hi all! Just checking in so I am not totally caught up, but wanted to give a quick update!

TarzansKat: Hooray!!! Congrtats on your baby boy!!! I hope all is well for you!!

We went to Disney for 8 days and returned last Tuesday. Although it was very hot and we went in search of shade and A/C a lot, it was wonderful, even at 32 weeks pregnant. People are so hospitable there and so happy to offer me a seat, or to jump the line in the bathroom (although I never did need too, because I went whenever the kiddoes were on a ride so they didn't have to wait on me!) It was a great family connection time and I am so glad that we went, despite the heat. BTW, the Beach Club pool was so amazing on those hot days!!!

Also, I had a baby shower on Saturday for baby #3. It has been 9 years since my last one, so although I felt weird about a second one, people were so happy to be there. It was mostly girlfriends, and I tried not to invite people who were at the first one (except my BFF's and very close family members!) It was so lovely and laid back. My advice is "go for it" and enjoy! It is not often that all of our favorite girlfriends get together as adults---it was a wonderful time!

Phew! I am whipped today. I worked at a Catholic Family Festival all day yesterday promoting our school, because we changed our school name. It was another long day, but so lovely. Today, we are relaxing at home...I think a nap may be in order soon! Take care everyone!!!

So glad you had a great time! Our trip is coming up here pretty quickly now
(9/11-9/18) and I'll be 31 weeks then. I am starting to get a little nervous that something could change and the doctor tell me the trip is a no-go, but my health and the baby's health is the most important thing. I have an appt this week, and then another 2 days before we are supposed to leave so we aren't telling DD we are going until probably the morning we leave. I think she will be okay with it. We might spill the beans the night of my appt once we have the final go-ahead though so she at least has a little time to get excited.

Welcome Kendra!
Sorry to hear about Baby C, but so glad to hear that Baby A & Baby B are both doing well!

Hi Ladies! I'm 38 weeks and feeling it! I don't remember being this uncomfortable with DD, but then again I was 3 yrs younger and not chasing a toddler all day..haha. I have a Dr appt tomorrow and he'll do an internal so I am hoping to have made some progress. I have not had any real contractions though....all of the bags are packed and DD will be spending time with my parents so the plan is in place. Just waiting to execute it.....my mom said everytime the phone rings she thinks it is me...lol. I'm starting to get emotional regarding how different life will be for DD but I know it's going to be great. It's just been us for 3 yrs though and I want to make the transition easy for her......I am sure I am overthinking it and she will be fine, but I worry.....

Well, the stupid lab sent my blood work results to my OB today and they retested it exactly the way the initial test had already been done. Not separating IgM (which my OB finally explained to me, haha). They read my OB's order incorrectly, even though she assures me it was written correctly. So I'm still waiting.

What is beyond stupid (and seemed to really irritate my OB's office) is that they separated the IgG test results which were all negative before so having the results show that they're all negative individually offered no help whatsoever.
So they're going back and retesting everything individually for the IgM results and HOPEFULLY I hear from them tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Another ultrasound Thursday and another the 18th. Still scheduled for RCS 8/26!!

Hi, Kendra!

So far I have gotten a dozen GroBaby shells with 24 inserts and 24 boosters. Since the new GroVia's were introduced I got them for $281, which was a pretty decent discount. I plan to add to that though. I am thinking I will probably use disposable until the baby is big enough for the one size cloth since I don't think that will be long at all (and I already have some and really anticipate getting some diapers as gifts). I would like to add some prefolds, some Flips, some BumGenius 4.0's and then some Fuzzibunz. Probably a dozen prefolds to use with my GroBaby covers and Flip Covers at times, then maybe 3-4 of the Flip System, BumGenius 4.0's and Fuzzibunz. I'm thinking the Fuzzibunz may be best for nighttime. Then I'll probably add some stay-dry liners and enough inserts for nightime use. I like the snaps so I'm sticking with ones that offer snaps. And colors....I want some pretty pink ones too and I got all vanilla in my grobaby since that was all that they had with snaps....and they won't show through clothes.

Are you thinking about using cloth?

I'm definitely using cloth. I used them the entire time with my 1st and for a while with my 2nd until I quit out of sheer exhaustion, but I was using pins & prefolds bc all in ones were so much more expensive. I love the "new" cloth stuff that is out - it seems like in 10 years and with so many more people using them, so many of the problems with them have been solved.

I was looking at the GroVia system today - they look really good. I have a gDiaper I want to try out, and my friend gave me MotherEase one sizes that I am going to try out with a Blueberry cover (with snaps). I have to admit, I totally fall for the cute ones since mine were sooo not cute last time around. This is funny, though, I never thought about the covers showing through clothes until I read your post - I'll have to add some white ones to my list!

I'm using disposables until the small gDiapers or the one sizes fit, too, then I'm going to try out the different diapers to see what I actually like best before placing a big order. The gDiapers get me with cuteness, but I want to make sure they actually work well, too. Besides, speaking from experience, getting meconium out of a cloth diaper just is not fun, and you don't have time to make up the extra expense before they grow out of the newborn diapers. Plus, we have a trip planned for Thanksgiving, and the baby isn't due until November 2nd - I'm thinking my life will be hectic enough! It is killing me not to order more diapers now, but I really want to be able to try some out before spending more $. And that was probably way more than anyone needed to know - sorry!

my midwife is going to let me eat jelly beans. apparently, there was a study done that if you eat a certain number (cant remember how many she told me) of brach brand jelly beans it has the same sugar content as the nasty orange stuff. i still have a while before this test but i was complaining about how sick i got from the orange drink at the last appt and she told me about it.

Ok, jelly beans would beat the 2 eggs and toast thing hands down. Now if they could only make it with Buttered Popcorn JellyBellies I'd be in heaven :lmao:

Wow - you are so close! Sorry about the frustration - that would be irritating.

The website I got my GroBaby's from still has them clearanced since they changed to the GroVia. You can buy them individually and they are a good price right now so you could try one out. Just thought I would send you the link in case you were interested - and they have some of the cute colors available now that they didn't when I ordered....but I wanted snaps anyway so it really didn't matter.

Just wanted to pop in and say hi ladies! I think I'm all caught up now. Sorry I didn't comment on anything but I've been reading while I get breaks at work. Looks like everyone is doing pretty good. Congrats to the births that happened while I was on hiatus.

Things with me are going well. My Anatomy Scan went really great. He is still a boy and everything looks perfect! He is VERY active now and I can feel him almost all the time. I love it! Although today it feels like he's planted himself right on my crotch. It hurts to walk. Ugh! But I'm still doing good.

I'll try to be back on more regularly now since my trips are over for the year.

Ok, we've switched to the gDiaper covers with prefolds inserted in them. I'm not crazy about them... They leak more than the Real Nappies did, and you have to really mess with them to get them fitted correctly. And on a 5 week old baby (wearing Mediums already!) they are really quite bulky and only cute from the back.... Most of our onsies are completely stretched out in the crotch.

All that said, cloth diapering has been a pleasant surprise. It's really not that big of a hassle at all... Definitely worth the savings. And so far we've only invested about $80 in cloth -- $36 for 6 Real Nappies covers, $30ish for 3 dozen infant prefolds from cottonbabies.com and a few bucks for poopy liners -- All of our gDiaper covers/liners are hand me downs.

Maybe we should start a cloth diapering thread. :)

Eeeew... those are the ones I hate... probably because I ate about a lb of them in one sitting when I was a teenager...

What covers are you using? I have already bought the GroBaby's and do plan to buy a few fuzzibunz (I'm thinking night-time - any thoughts?), Some Flips, and some BumGenius 4.0. I will definitely be getting some prefolds which I can use my GroBaby & Flip covers with and then hope to get some Blueberry covers also. But I'm using cloth for money savings....but I'm getting all in ones/two because my parents will be keeping the baby at least part-time if not full-time so I want to make it as easy as possible on them.

Thanks for the link - I'm going to get one to add to my "try it out" stash :)

I was worried about that with the gDiapers - seemed like people in reviews either loved them or kinda hated them. That's why I only got one. Hearing that from you, I'm really glad I only got one. I'll still give it a try - I'm going to order some fabric from Wazoodle to make inserts myself, so maybe the bulk won't be as much of an issue?

Hah! I did that with Peanut M&Ms in high school - still can't stand the sight of them.

Does anyone have a recommendation for really good nursing pads? I leaked a TON before, so I want to be prepared. That was my main issue with bf before, and the reason I stopped (which I realize now I was kinda creating my own problem, too, but anyway...)

I'm using the Lansinoh ones. I also like the Avent ones... but if anyone has suggestions for reusable pads I'd really like to know too...

Using the gDiaper covers now, with a cloth prefold instead of the disposable inserts ($$$). I want to get a few AIOs, but not sure where to start on those. :)

Hey Ladies!
Well I had a doctor's appointment this morning. I didn't have to do the glucose test today, but I will be doing it my next appt on 9/9. My doctor was good with my blood pressure and my urine was fine - which was a relief. I have been worried about preeclampsia. Shaylee is measuring about a week or so ahead and is about 2 1/2 pounds now. I actually made the rest of my appointments out to my due date which is bizarre. Actually what's really strange to me is that after this next appointment I start going every 2 weeks.

Piecey - Sorry about your frustrations with the lab. That is ridiculous. I can't believe how quick you C-section is coming up though.

Nette - I obviously need to pay closer attention because you said you were using prefolds in your Gdiaper covers the first time....sorry to be repetitive.

Leger - Glad your anatomy scan went well.

Well my shower is now scheduled for October 5th. I'm excited to celebrate this baby too, although I feel a little weird about the shower for baby #2.

WDW ~ glad your appt went well and no pre-e! yay for scheduling all your appts from now till the end and yay for no GD testing today! I have mine on 8/27....I'm SO not looking forward to it. Seems like my Dr is having me do it sooner than a lot of other Dr's which is strange. :confused3 I'm starting to wonder when my appts will get more frequent. My Dr hasn't even started to measure my belly yet. Wonder if they ever will.

My OB seems to just use the ultrasound machine. She still has not measured my belly. My guess is that she has the machine and since she can see more with an ultrasound anyway she just uses that and measures the baby via ultrasound each time. I'm loving seeing the baby each appointment, but it still seems kind of weird to skip all the rest. I mean a normal appointment for me is weigh, have my blood pressure taken, pee in a cup, ultrasound, then heartbeat with doppler. At the end we discuss any questions I have....if I have any.

So you're having your glucose screening at 24 weeks? That does seem early.....but then I'm doing my late it seems like at 30 weeks. It seems like I read it is usually done between 26-28 weeks. But my OB only mentioned me taking it after asking me how big my first baby was. I told her 8 pounds 1 ounce and then she said we would need to test for gestational diabetes then. Almost like if she had been smaller I wouldn't have needed to. I think with this baby measuring a bit big combined with DD's size (born at 38 weeks) I definitely need to do the screening. I'm not looking forward to it though.

I am really struggling with my registry. I need to go in the store and add to it, but so far I've just been working on it online. I don't feel comfortable registering for more expensive items but at the same time there just really isn't a whole lot we need. And a lot of what we need is available online only. Some of the online only stuff I registered for was just to let people know I am cloth diapering. I am not anti-disposable so I will use them if we get some as gifts....and I will use them when baby is small, but I just want people to know so I may get less diapers that way. I will also be breastfeeding so I put some stuff on there so people know....but I'm not going to put a pump on my registry. In fact since I know this is my last baby I am seriously considering just renting again. I have to call the hospital and see how much rentals are now.....they were fairly cheap 7 years ago :rotfl: I think I'm just overanalyzing this whole registry thing.

Am I the only one that doesn't think the glucose test is that bad?

I had the fruit punch and it tasted fine to me.

The only bad thing is they found out I have low iron from the bloodwork so now I have to take an iron supplement which makes me pretty quesy unless I eat something big with it in the morning.

A couple of questions since my last child was almost 8 years ago!

1.) When did your doc start doing internal exams? I just want to be prepared.

2.) When did you start going every 2 weeks?

I have my 30 week appt on Monday and I know he is doing an ultrasound. I've still been going every 4 weeks up to this point.

I know every doc is different, but I'm just curious..........

Am I the only one that doesn't think the glucose test is that bad?

Oh I dislike it more for the bloodwork, they always have a hard time it seems like getting my blood. As far as the drink....I've never had it, but how bad can sugary fruit punch really be? (I got to drink a Pepsi with my first pregnancy to do the screening.)

The only bad thing is they found out I have low iron from the bloodwork so now I have to take an iron supplement which makes me pretty quesy unless I eat something big with it in the morning.

I have to take extra iron too. But I haven't gotten sick from it thankfully.

It was 7 years ago for me and I honestly cannot remember for the life of me.

2.) When did you start going every 2 weeks?

I have made my appointments all the way through to my anticipated scheduled date for C-section....so that's the only reason I know this :) My OB starts 2 week appointments after 30 weeks and 1 week appointments after 36 weeks.

I have my 30 week appt on Monday and I know he is doing an ultrasound. I've still been going every 4 weeks up to this point.

I know every doc is different, but I'm just curious..........

I know that this OB does things very different from my prior OB....but I like her. And I do like seeing the baby every appointment.

Hello everyone!

I can't believe I am doing this...but I have to subscribe to this thread!

I just found out recently that I am VERY UNEXPECTEDLY pregnant with my FIFTH child!!!!!
:yay::headache::rotfl2::confused::cheer2::crazy2::cloud9::crazy::love::o:Pinkbounc* yeah, that about sums up all of my emotions about this!

I haven't had my first appt. yet, but I did have a sonogram at 7 weeks because of my "advanced maternal age" :sad2:

I still can't believe this...my oldest will be 15 and is in high school for Goodness sake. My youngest will be 7! I just had reached the point where everyone was in full day school and I had some time to myself. God sure does have a sense of humor.

I have gotten over the shock and realized it serves no purpose to go over the negatives at this point (higher chance of things going wrong at my age - can't go back to work now like I was planning) It's happening whether I wanted it to or not, so I might as well get excited and concentrate on all of the fun things about it!

It has been so long since my last pregnancy, a lot of tests have changed and I haven't even thought about any of this stuff for so long. I will be reading this thread and relearning everything!
