Moms to Be Part 3

I have my 20 week scan scheduled for January 14th. :goodvibes It was going to be the 15th but my mom really wants to be there and it's the only day she can't make it. It's important to me that she can be there if she wants so I rescheduled. We're really excited! DH and I want to be surprised by the gender, but I am very excited to see the little one and hope so much that everything looks healthy and good.

Can anyone share a good website or two for reviews and ideas on things like travel systems and cribs? A friend bought me "Baby Bargains" which is a great book, and I've been on their site and boards a bit.

I am really interested in the Chicco travel system, high chair, play yard, etc., but wondered about the durability and such.

Also, does anyone know if Babies R Us furniture ever goes on sale? I would like to order my furniture from there, but would feel much better about the expense if it was 15% or 20% off.

Thanks in advance! Thanks for the welcome!

I found a crib I really liked at Babies R Us and after doing some research discovered that Walmart sold the exact same crib under a different name for a lot less. When I registered the crib on the companies website, they had like 3 different names for the same crib - each sold at a different store.

Well, I am just back from my latest appointment. Doc confirmed everything looked good on my previous ultrasound (didn't get to see her last time, as she was out delivering a baby). I measured right on where I should be. Heat rate was good. She said that if we want to, I can be induced at 39 weeks. So, when DH and I get a chance to talk over email, we will discuss it. It is the way I am leaning towards right now. I just hurt. I am tired. I am ready to be done! Plus, DH should still be on leave from his overseas deployment, which would help out tremendously!

BabyTigger - Glad to see everything is going well. Only a few weeks left!! :-)

mla - I have the Chicco Travel System and the Chicco Key Fit carseat. The Carseat is one of the highest rated and we always really liked it. The Chicco Cortina stroller is nice but a bit big. No worries about quality or anything though. If I was doing it again (getting the stroller/carseat again) I'd get the Chicco KeyFit carseat and the Chicco Trevia (or whatever it's called!) stroller. It's more compact but has alot of the features of the bigger stroller. I don't know about the rest of the Chicco stuff but I am sure it's great!

mla-We bought the chicco travel system because DH's coworker gave us the carseat (ok, so technically we only bought the cortina stroller). They still use their cortina (that's why they only gave us the car seat) and love it! We're looking forward to using it.

I hope that you get to be induced! I think that would be neat to be able to know what day you are having your baby. It's so hard not knowing. You are given a "due date" but it can vary so much....I had a checkup today too! I said that I didn't look like I was 29 weeks (I have a very small bump) but the dr. said that I'm measuring right on track. He said that if I was still concerned at my next appt in 4 weeks that they could do an ultrasound. Even if I'm not concerned I still want the ultrasound  I would love to see the baby now since I haven't seen her since the 20 week one.

Anyone else have horrifying knee pain? So painful!!!!

Well, talked to DH last night. Looks like we are going to go forward with the induction at 39 weeks, unless Elliott gets impatient and wants to come sooner (which would make me sooooo happy!). I go see the doc again on January 7th (hopefully with DH in tow, keeping my fingers crossed that he makes it home just after the 1st of the year!!), and discuss it then.

phragm - With my first, my mom really wanted to be there for the ultrasound (particularly cause we were finding out what she was) so we scheduled it for when she was visiting as well. I didn't care so much about finding out in advance, but my husband and mom were set on knowing so since it was so important to them, and not so much to me, we found out.

Tigger - How long will your husband be home in January? I'm sure it would be nice to have him around to help for awhile before you're on your own again. I would definitely take the dr up on the induction offer cause having a set date would be so nice. I tried that with my son, but he came 2 weeks before his scheduled 38 week induction, so I am sure my dr won't even suggest it this time around as he is sure I will deliver early anyway. With my son it was because of his size that we had the induction planned, and we know this one is big too, but she'll likely come while she can still fit based on past history.

mla - My SIL has the Chicco travel system and loves it. She had a Graco travel system with the 1st 2 kids, and just got the Chicco for the 3rd (there's a 5.5 year age gap between #2 and #3) and likes it a lot more than her old Graco.

Having other kids, I am a big fan of the Peg Perego Pliko (and also the larger strollers in their line) cause they have a riding board on the back for my older kids to stand on. So we did get a new carseat for this baby, but we'll be using the Peg Perego Centro that we got when my son was a baby for the stroller. It's held up decently well over 3 years, especially given how many times someone has fallen asleep and peed in it, causing me to hose it down full force. ;)

I need to get ready to move as my friend will be here in a few minutes and we're going to see another museum. My kids are in full day gymnastics camp today and tomorrow so I actually get to walk around the city without them and enjoy the day. Not that yesterday was bad, but I spent so much time yelling "Please stop walking through the snow!" and rushing to potties that it will be nice to have the break.

Justhat, DH will be home for good. Well, let me rephrase that. He will be home until he decides to do another deployment. I would say probably in 18 months or so he will leave again. He has volunteered for all his deployments.

Hi!
I've just found this thread so thought I'd pop in. I am 23 weeks (due 4/21/2010) with a girl. I've had pretty bad lower back pain for the past several weeks (I have scoliosis) and got one of those pregancy pillows (the Snoogle) which works great!!

I'm trying my best to remain active. I do wii fit a few times a week and I'm trying to keep up with my wogging. I *plan* to wogg the Disney Princess Half Marathon in March (it will be my third half, and I did the Tower of Terror 13k at 14ish weeks in October).

We are having my shower on Jan 2nd. I'm not really good at being the center of attention, so I'm a little nervous about that.

Mostly, I'm just annoyed that everyone seems to have an opinion about how I should be acting or feeling. I don't like that people tell me that I like being pregnant or that my husband should get to name the baby because "he's the man". I get that a lot at work and it's really starting to get to me. I'm working on letting it go, but not doing such a good job.

Have you tried it on a store cart yet? I've read that the carrier doesn't fit well in the front of a crat (like at the grocery store).

I really love the colors and it does get great reviews.

We aren't actually using it yet-I just know the coworker liked it! I doubt we'll use it on the front of a store cart, because as big as DH is, I'm not estimating him being in it all that long (we're both well over average heights for our genders) and I doubt we'll have him out much before he's out of it. Otherwise, the store will probably be a tag team event for a while, so one of us could do stroller and the other cart duty.

I know that this is super common, but really, don't put the carseat on top of a grocery cart. This summer I was in the grocery store and a baby was in the carseat on top of the cart and someone was not watching where they were pushing their cart and smacked into the cart holding the baby, which caused the carseat to fly out, onto the ground, baby side down. The baby was screaming and had a huge welt on his forehead, but I don't know what happened after that, if the baby had any real injuries or what.

And I just read an article in Parents magazine with a similar story, where they mom went over a bump in the parking lot with the grocery cart, the carseat flew off the top and the baby landed face down on the pavement. That baby, I think, did suffer actual injuries and might have needed stitches or something, I forget, but I think I have the magazine lying around so I'll look.

We always stuck the carseat in the basket of the cart, which, yes, leaves much less room for food, but is a lot less likely to cause an injury.

Welcome Lindsey22! That's great that you are still running while pregnant. I did with my first, even did 3 miles on the elliptical the night before she was born, but with this kid I have been super lazy, so I envy you! I told my daughter we'd do that Princess Marathon next year, cause I doubt I'll be up for it this year after basically a year of not running. She is dying to do the kid races in that and we couldn't make it last year.

As far as your husband naming the baby, I don't see how being a man plays any more of a role in that than the woman who is carrying the child. FWIW, my husband could care less about naming this kid, hence why, at 34 weeks, we are still nameless. Granted she's the 3rd one so the novelty has worn off a bit, but still. ;)

Tigger - That's great that your husband's deployment is almost over! I was thinking he'd be home on leave, not for good. My friend's husband was back on a 3 week leave for the birth of their daughter last year, but then sent back and got home just before Thanksgiving.

Gymnastics camp and our friends visiting wore out my kids-my son fell asleep at 5:30pm on the way home from camp and my daughter nearly did as well, but just made it back awake. She will be going to bed within the hour though as she desperately needs sleep and has another full day at camp tomorrow.

Hey, everyone! Not sure if I'll get on again before then so I just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday and New Year! Hope you all have a great time celebrating and enjoy your families at this very special time. :goodvibes

New over on this thread so.. HI EVERYONE!! :D

My due date is July 12th, obviously don't know if it's a boy or girl yet. Are we posting U/S pics at all? We had out 11/12 week appointment today and got to see our little worm wiggling around. Man he/she is a wiggly bugger.. was doing barrel rolls during the ultrasound. We're just so relieved to have gotten to this point.. I've had two miscarriages before, both right at 8 weeks, so to get to now is just amazing and they tell me that my chances of miscarrying now have gone way way down. They are classifying me as high risk because I have a heart problem, mild MS, and a genetic condition. I'm not too bothered because that means I'll get to see the baby more! At our next appointment they plan to do a level two ultrasound.. awesome!

Hi, and congratulations!

I will you keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I was termed high risk during the last trimester of my last pregnancy, so I can sort of identify. I had a ton of ultrasounds near the end, and I have to say it was real neat to watch him getting bigger in the womb. This is a great group of people here, so I think you'll really enjoy this thread. :goodvibes

Enjoy your level two ultrasound! :thumbsup2

Wishing all my fellow Moms and Moms to be a very Merry Christmas!

I have to go into the hospital today for a non stress test. My last visit to the doctor was eventful. My BP has been slowly inching up and they found protein in my urine. Now I'm on weekly visits to the OB/Gyn and the Perinatologist. Blah!

The other thing they found with my latest ultrasound is that my son has excess fluid in his left kidney. They have been watching it the past few times, and the perinatologist has recommended that I see a pediatric urologist when he is born. I know from reading on the Internet that it is usually something the child grows out of in a few years, but sometimes surgery is needed. Such a scary thought! Has anyone here ever experienced this?

Cici, I've never experienced that, but wanted to wish you the best of luck.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!

And everyone else as well! Happy Holidays! :santa:

Merry Christmas Mommies to Be!!! My shopping is finally done, plus, I found a stuffed deer to go in Elliott's room to go with his Forest Friend bedding (and, got a coupon for $5 off at the store I got it, so I can go back and get the stuffed owl!). Busy day today! I have to work until 11:30, then stop at the grocery store and Kohls (need pantyhose for tonight, oops!). Cookies still need to be frosted and decorated. Tonight is the children's Christmas pagent at church that my mom and I do the music for. Have to be at church at 4:30, service is at 5:30. Afterwards we go to my mom's to eat (mmmmm, tenderloin!), and do presents. Hopefully we should be home by about 10 or so, because I still have to wrap all the presents yet!! It is my tradition that I wrap on Christmas Eve night while watching A Christmas Story. Won't be as much fun without DH asking me every 10 minutes if I am done yet (and then eventually falling asleep on the couch waiting for me!). Plus, I did the guilty mom thing (about DH being overseas), and WAAAAY overbought for DSD and DS, so I have probably 32 things to wrap tonight. Luckily, nothing is really huge, so that is good!

Oh, did I mention on top of all this busy-ness, it is sleeting out, changing to snow, then back to sleet?
