Moms to Be Part 3

Cici - Sorry to hear about the BP and protein. Regarding the kidney thing, do you know specifically what it might be? My daughter has a congenital kidney disorder, but we didn't know it till she was 3yo. They did check this baby for it on the ultrasound but seem to think things are okay so far. Odd are once she's born our ped will recommend getting her tested anyway to know for sure. With my daughter the problem is that her ureters are shorter than they should be, so urine flows backwards from her bladder to her kidneys (both kidneys, though one side was worse than the other), which obviously isn't supposed to happen. They supposedly outgrow it by 6yo, but we haven't retested her to check on that yet, and honestly I am not sure if I want to cause it was torturous for both her and I the first time.

We found out when she got a UTI at 3.5yo. The bad thing is that she probably had several other UTIs and we had no idea, so the guilt we felt was terrible. My husband is a physician so we very rarely take the kids to the ped other than well visits. So when my daughter would get low grade fevers but be otherwise okay (as in still playing, eating, drinking, no cough, runny nose, no upset stomach, etc), we would just let it ride its course. Wasn't till she had an accident at our front door, after having used the potty less than 30 minutes earlier that I thought something was up. She never complained of any pain or anything though so had it not been for the accident, which was so odd cause she *never* had accidents, we would not have brought her to the ped.

And even at that point, the ped sent to her to radiology just cause her own preference is to send any kid who gets 1 UTI under age 6. Usually things are fine. For my kid, however, it was not. Luckily, there was no scarring in her kidneys, but they did a VCUG which showed reflux on both kidneys.

So basically, she was on prophylactic antibiotics daily for over a year, when we stopped to see how she'd do. No infections thus far so hopefully things are resolved.

Since this is more prevalent in boys, and highly hereditary, we also had to test my son, but he was fine. We were convinced he had it too cause he was born with a hypospadias, had a possible UTI at 8 months (ped said UTI, urology said no), and had cloudy urine the day of the VCUG. But oddly enough things looked normal for him.

Anyway, I have no idea if that is even what your tech saw on the scan, but figured if it is then this might be helpful.

Welcome Locolala and congrats on your pregnancy and getting past the danger stage. I can't imagine the relief you must feel to know things are looking good. Feel free to post some of your photos! I haven't actually gotten a photo from an ultrasound since the 20 week one, but I am getting another in a week or so and will ask for some photos then.

Oh, and my 2nd kid was preterm, so I am 'high risk' with this pregnancy too and have enjoyed all the extra ultrasounds i did not get with my 1st 2 kids.

Tigger - I am about to start wrapping my kids stuff, then need to hide it for when they get home. My mom's coming to our house and her train gets in about an hour from now so I should get cracking. My husband is home so he can pick her up I guess, but he's playing some stupid Playstation game so I know tearing him away will be insane. We did get all our food this morning though, so at least we are set on that front.

And time to get moving on the gifts. Happy Christmas Eve everyone!

There's the little worm :D

We're so excited :). Off to VA now to see my family, have a good holiday everyone!

Localala - your worm is adorable!!

We had our 36 week checkup and ultrasound yesterday. The baby is about 6 pounds and the head is already way down!
Only issue was low fluid levels which had the doctor sending us to the hospital for a non-stress test. Luckily everything looked good there and when they repeated the ultrasound my levels had already gone back up. I think I just let myself get a bit dehydrated. I've learned my lesson! We go back for a follow up ultrasound on Monday morning and in the meantime I'm drinking water like crazy....I'll be spending most of the holiday weekend running back and forth to the bathroom, I guess!
OH and while at the hospital they checked my platelet levels again and luckily I went back up from 140 to 165 which means I'm on the right track to be able to get that epidural! I'm soooo relieved!
Hope you all have a great holiday!!

Glad to hear that your platelet count is up!!! That's the news I'm hoping to hear in order to get the epidural!

DH and I were talking tonight about how this will be the last holiday without our little one. It's so weird to think how much things are going to change.... Crazy! I went to church tonight and there were so many kids there. It's hard to believe that I'm going to have one of them! Excited but very nervous.

I wish all the moms to be a very Happy Holiday!!!! :goodvibes

Merry Christmas ladies! :) I need to catch up reading the last 2 or 3 pages...but "Santa Mommy" needs to get to sleep right now!

Just wanted to let you all know, I had my ultrasound yesterday and......

IT'S A GIRL!!!

Congrats Sherry! Great Christmas present to find out what your little baby is!

My kids had a good day and were happy with the Santa loot. And I was happy that they both slept in till 7:30am! Time to get back to cooking dinner.

I can't remember the name the doctor gave me for the kidney thing, but I did speak with a doctor in the family today during the Christmas festivities, and he did tell me that it was common, especially in boys, and something he was very likely to grow out of. That made me feel better!

I hope everyone had a terrific holiday!

My daughter's thing, it's called vesicouretal reflux (VCUR), is more common in boys so it could be the same thing. That's why when she had it they really wanted my son tested as it's hereditary to begin with, but when it is in the less common gender then I guess they really expect to see it in siblings.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I was able to sneak in about an hour long nap yesterday afternoon, and it was WONDERFUL!!! Today I am sitting at work. I have really slacked this week, and it shows on my desk!! Plus, I have some work that is much easier to do with no one around to bother me, so it is nice to come in on a Saturday and do it. Plus...wishful thinking here...I want to try and keep most of the work off my desk....just in case!!!

Ugh, since I haven't complained in a few days...here goes!! I broke one of my molars tonight!!! I hate the dentist. Well, I don't hate him, but I am not his number 1 fan, that is for sure! I can wiggle a part of the tooth, and my tongue keeps touching it, making it hurt. Hopefully they can get me in on Monday morning and do something about it!

Oh ewwww. That's not fun at all. I really need to get a cleaning done, but because I need antibiotics to get a cleaning (hearth problem) I'm hesitant to do it while I'm pregnant. Ugh. Dentists are a pain aren't they?

I delivered a 4 lb 1 oz boy at 1:43 PM on Dec 22nd! He was 35 weeks and 2 days, and went to the NICU only b/c of hs size, but is doing very well. We're pretty sure the final name is Cole Matthew, there's still some debate on the middle name.

I went to the hospital earlier that week b/c my BP was elevated, and they checked me out and let me go home. I saw the doctor the Friday before who agreed to continue me at home on bedrest. But the next day I ended up back on Labor and Delivery and they admitted me due to probable preeclampisa, which turned into definate severe preeclampsia within a couple of days. I also developed HELLP syndrome, with my liver enzymes going to 3 times normal and my platelets dropping, and the amnotic fluid index was slightly low. They induced me Tuesday Dec 22 and that actually went very smoothly. Cole has had no problems other than being small and some mild jaundice, but they're keeping him in the NICU for a few more days to be sure he can maintain his weight and temps on his own. I, on the other hand, have had lots of problems. I was reallly sick in the hospital becasue they had to put me on magnesium for the preeclampsia. Now my BP isn't coming down, even on medications, and I have severe neck pain. Has anyone else had neck pain after an epidural? I know you can have headaches, but I've never heard of neck pain. I think it's muscular, but with everythng else going on it does worry me. I have a bad feeling I'm going to end up back in the hospital with hypertension, we'll have to see, we're calling the doctors now. At least Cole is doing well!

Congratulations Disneylovr! I'm sorry you guys are having a rough go right now but I'm sending positive thoughts and good wishes that you both get to be home and healthy soon :wizard:

Congrats on Cole's arrival, disneylovr! What a great holiday gift, despite the preeclampsia and HELLP.

The neck pain shouldn't be from the epi as they don't interfere with the neck at all, so I would definitely bring that up with your dr so hopefully you can get something for it and have one less thing to deal with.

I feel for you with the mag sulfate, as I was given that with my son and it wasn't pleasant. He was 1 week older than your son, gestationally, when he was born and he too had the jaundice issues that I heard can be worse with preterm babies, but he's quite the healthy 3yo now.

Tigger - Sorry to hear about the tooth. I am not my dentist's #1 fan either and used this pregnancy to avoid going for quite some time, which probably isn't wise. I hope they get you in tomorrow so you aren't in pain much longer.

I am so tired today but need to get moving on cleaning up the house so I can get the baby's stuff ready. I am about to order a diaper bag, sling, and carseat blanket thing online and then actually leave the couch for the first time since we got home around 1pm.

Well, I nearly went to the ER on Christmas day. I was having pain in my lower abdomen that was keeping me from standing upright, it got so bad. I could feel the little guy moving around, so I tried to get him settled since we were so far from home and wouldn't be with our doctors, etc. And besides...On Christmas day, who wants to go to the ER? I drank some Mtn. Dew to try to make him move (thinking he might be in a bad position) and ate a snack. After laying down for a while, I got to feeling better. I was totally fine when we went to my aunt's for lunch, but it started again while we were there, just never got as bad.

It was so weird...I think it was a mix of spending so much time in the car the day before, and a change in diet, which led to changes in bathroom habits, if you know what I mean. I feel fine now, and he's wiggling just as much as ever!

DH was able to feel him move on Christmas night-what a nice gift!

Wow what a great thread. I just found it while searching for answers.

First Hello I'm the Mommy to 2 BEAUTIFUL girls... Alexzandra is 9 and my little Boo (Izabelle) is a year old TODAY! And as an added Christmas Surprise I'm due July 31 w/ baby # 3. So much for the Dr's that told me I would NEVER have a child.

I canceled our trip the year before because I was pregnant. However this year I don't want to cancel it. Who know how long it will be before we will get back w/ 3 kids. That's 2 extra plane tickets I'll have to buy. I'm nervous however to go while pregnant. Anyone have some advice/ Thanks

Congratulations, Milmore104 and happy birthday to Izabelle :cheer2:
How far along will you be for your trip? We went to WDW at around 20 some weeks and I did fine! I was hot and tired for a lot of it but I didn't let it get to me. You just have to take things a bit slower than usual - which is much easier said than done when you've already got 2 little ones with you I'm sure but I definitely wouldn't cancel the trip!
Just check with your doctor and if you get the all clear - have an awesome time!!

Quick update: went back to the hospital this morning so they could re-check my fluid levels since they were on the low side last week. Much better today! so I guess drinking all this water actually does help :thumbsup2

First off, congratulations!

I've been while pregnant, but it was during my second trimester, which for me, was the best part of my first pregnancy. I just made sure to stay plenty hydrated and rest when I was tired, but we really had a ball.
