Hey everyone!! Just wanted to let you know we had an ultrasound today! Baby looks wonderful and healthy and we're officially expecting a little gir!! I'm soooooo excited!!! :dance3:

Curiosity question.....

Did you have the first trimester screening or the AFP screening? I went in for a checkup today (and heard the heartbeat yay!) but they were asking me if I had the first trimester screening or were going to choose to do the AFP. DH and I had decided that we did not want to have the test. I know that there are false positives and I think that it would just freak me out. But the more I was asked today the more I felt that maybe I was doing something wrong and should be doing the test.... sigh... I don't know :confused3
We opted for no testing at all almost for the same reasons that you have chosen.

Hulagirl, we did some screening, but I can't remember what it was. I do know that because my MIL had had a sibling with downs syndrom, we did it around 15 weeks.

Amanda, congratulations!!!!!

We did the integrated screening - BUT it was done just so we could get the extra ultrasounds for free :) What they did was do an ultrasound and take some of my blood at 12 weeks, then I came back at 18 weeks and had another ultrasound and blood drawn. Because they couldn't get all the measurements they needed (her heart chambers) at that ultrasound they had me come back at 22 weeks and have the measurements done then. We got to see her three extra times because of this :)

CONGRATS - both on a healthy baby and your little girl :)

Congratulations Amanda!! Bring on the pink! :goodvibes

Has anybody ever had issues with the airlines flying in their second trimester? We're flying down to Disney soon and I'll be 22 weeks. I know that after a certain point you need a doctors note, but I'm assuming nobody will stop me this early - or will they??
Has anybody ever had trouble? Should I get a note just in case? Am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't think you will have any problems, HOWEVER - if you have a doctors appointment before you leave I don't think it would hurt to get a note just in case. That is what I would do, FWIW.

I was 30 weeks pregnant when we went to Disney in July and I was obviously showing and never even had someone say a word to me so I think you will be fine.

We did not do the screening for the exact same reasons that you mentioned.

Thanks Adi and Tink!
I think I'll call my doctor just to get the green light to go (just to be on the safe side) and I'll ask her about getting a note just in case. The last thing I want is to get turned away from a flight to Disney World!

Oh and Hulagirl - we didn't get any screening done for the same reason!

I came over to unsubscribe, I swear, and I thought I'd comment on this. :rotfl:

I flew at 19wks (I think? :confused3) and no one stopped me. I'd take a note though.. getting through security and everything is nerve-wracking enough without extra worry. I had notes from my OB because I was flying to meet a cruise ship-- and the cruise line required paperwork from my Dr. that I was in good health and having a normal pregnancy with no complications.

I'm sure your Dr. won't mind and the peace of mind is invaluable.

Have fun!

Bye, Ladies! I hope you join us over on the Newest Moms thread when you graduate from here. :lovestruc

hulagirl-

We didn't do it either. My office, at 16wks, draws blood and will then tell you if you have an increased chance of having a child with a chromosomal defect. We opted out of the first trimester screening... one, because we didn't want to worry for nothing, and two, if there is something there... we would keep the child no matter what... and three, why worry for more weeks than you have to. So when at 16 wks we found out nothing was wrong- we were pleased we didn't go through the stress of the first trimester screening. I felt that my dr's office was urging I get it-- and they made it sound all appealing by telling me id get another u/s... but in all honesty it wasn't worth it to us.

That was exactly our reasoning.

We weren't going to do anything with the information, so there was no point in putting Cathy through the extra stress.

I flew at 19 weeks, 24 weeks and 28 weeks. Didn't have any problems with any airlines, but did carry a doctors note just in case.

Next appointment - tomorrow!

When we were booking our Disney trip I called my OB and asked. She said that you could fly domestically up to 32 weeks, so you should be fine! If you log onto your air carriers website you should be able to find a link that will tell you at what point they require a note. My OB did suggest getting the name/number of a local OB just in case there was a problem while we were on the trip.

Bye Piecey, "see" you soon!!!!

We had our first Prepared Childbirth class last night. It was alright, sort of boring, and I was so tired! Having a 4 hour class on a Tuesday night after working all day is brutal! Has anyone else started or been through these classes?

I probably took the same one as you! We thought it was a little repetitive- I had already read so many books, watched so many shows, and looked so much on the internet I pretty much knew everything already.

The one really helpful part was when she gave us the breathing techniques. I, of course forget them when I was actually in labor, but my husband remembered them and it really helped to calm me down.

We never made it to the second class as we opted to see a movie instead :rolleyes1. I don;t think we really missed out on much.....

If you are planning on breastfeeding, they have a free class at Baylor in Frisco that was really helpful. I brought my husband, and he wasn't the only one either. It was good for both of us to know everything that goes into it and where to get help, ect.

We are signed up for the breastfeeding class later this month!

I have a slightly skewed view of labor and delivery classes. My mom taught them all through my childhood, so whenever my dad was out of town we went with her and sat in the back. I'm pretty sure I saw a live birth video around 9 years old...I feel like I've known so much of this for so long. Plus, like you said, we have read a bunch of books, etc. At least they have fresh fruit!

Do you know if Baylor rents out breastpumps? That is one thing we haven't looked into yet. That, and childcare! We didn't realize we needed to look so early!

How are you feeling these days?

I'm pretty sure they do rent out pumps, but I think it is about $50 per month. Depending on how long you are planning to pump, you may just want to purchase one. You can use the 20% Bed Bath and Beyond coupon at Bye Bye Baby and probably get one for a good price.

We looked a lot for child care...... and then I ended up staying home, lol! But Primrose is good, and there is a place in Frisco near Main and Teel that is really good too.

I have stopped throwing up :yay:. Just really tired- especially after chasing after an 8 1/2 month old all day!

How about you? You are getting so close! I remember when I was at that stage I felt so huge and had to roll off the couch to get off! :rotfl:
