Moms to Be Part 3

Thanks Veronica and Adi!
I figured I would look at Target because I have a gift card - but I'm out of town until Monday so for the next couple nights I'll try using a bunch of pillows and see if that helps!

Pillows-I used a body pillow with my 2nd kid and will start using one again soon with this one. It was a big help, particularly because we got a Tempurpedic mattress 2 months before he was born and my belly just sunk in and sort of dragged me down with it. I otherwise love the mattress but it is not designed for pregnant women.

I went to the dr today too and heard the heartbeat with a doppler, though it took her a long time to find it and I was getting nervous. On Monday the ultrasound tech said everything looked perfect, so I kept repeating that to myself, but man, it was still pretty scary waiting for her to find the baby today.

My appt was 2 hours long, which is insane. I have never been in the OB's office that long in my life, and really, for the 1st appt for a 3rd kid, what do they need to do? A med student came in and had to take my entire history cause apparently something happened to the computer and random things were missing from my file. Then she realized she knew my husband and got so excited like we were old friends. The highlight from there was that for whatever reason they did an internal exam and she had to do it, which was beyond awkward after knowing she has worked with my husband. So has the OB, but she and I did not mention that so whether she knew or not is beyond me and I prefer it that way.

The one piece of info that came out of the appt is that I may need to take weekly progesterone shots starting at 14 weeks to prevent another preterm baby. She said that in studies with women who have delivered preterm babies, weekly progesterone shots help prevent another preterm birth. My only fear is that it is suspected that progesterone (normal levels in pregnancy) contribute to morning sickness, and I can't imagine being sicker than I am, and for the entire pregnancy. So I'm hoping someone else has taken the shots and can give me some kind of feedback about what it was like. Obviously I'd take the sickness over giving birth at 36 weeks again (or sooner), as I do not want to risk the health of the baby, but being sicker is not too appealing.

The good thing is that I don't need to go back to the OB till 9/8, when I can get my AFP blood test and level 2 ultrasound as well. And that appt is with my regular ob so I am happy about that. He never does internals nor keeps me there more than 10 minutes.

I've been lurking here since the twins were born. :) I did the progesterone shots from 16 weeks til I delivered at 30w5d. They didn't make me feel sick (but then I didn't have very bad m/s to begin with.) I will say that they do hurt a bit, as it's a very thick oil. So it's not just a quick 2 seconds and you are done sort of shot -- more like you stand (or lean on the table) for a good 30 seconds or so while the shot goes in.

Also, you should take a good 2-3 minutes to rub in the shot & disperse the oil, otherwise it can feel like a huge bruise that hurts until it's time for the next weeks shot.

I didn't have the shots but used the supposatory progesterone and I was so sick it was terrible. It was all day and after 13 weeks when I stopped using it I finally got better.I had soem with my first but it was nothing like this time-I lost weight instead of gaining(but I am definatly making up for that now!)Good luck I know everyone is different,my levels were not that low but I was spotting alot so he put me on it and it stopped all the spotting and cramping I had.

Hey all!

Just got back from 10 days in NY visiting the in laws. We had a great time! Before I went my Dr. prescribed me Zofran since I was throwing up so much. It worked for about 5 days and then I started throwing up again. I havent been able to keep dinner down at all, and I usually throw up another time during the day. Has anyone had experience with Zofran not working? He said there was nothing else for me and just to hope it ends soon. It went 14 weeks with my son, so I was expecting at least that with this one. Just a little worried since I seem to be throwing up two full meals a day, including liquids.

Hmmm, 3 weeks more of this if its anything like last time!!!

I am huge already!! I look like I did at 20 weeks pregnant with my son at only 10 1/2 weeks!! My husband came home yesterday and said "where did that come from!" :rotfl:

Can't be all the food I'm eating since none of it is staying down!

Hope everyone else is doing well. I go in August 6 for the NT scan. One day after our 2 year anniversary  First anniversary I was 5 months pregnant with my son, this one I'll be three months pregnant. Maybe at the 3 year one I can finally have a glass of wine with dinner! :rotfl:

I never took Zofran, but I am sick and throwing up at least once a day. I don't have any advice, but I know it does suck, especially when you have another kid to watch. It's just so exhausting to be sick all the time as it is, without having a baby all the time.

I also look huge but am not really keeping food down either, so I don't get it.

Ugh, not what I was hoping to hear, but maybe the suppositories are worse? So you took it from conception to 13 weeks? I wonder if it was part regular morning sickness making the progesterone sickness worse? I lost weight with my 2nd kid in the beginning too, 10 lbs, but this time, even though I am vomiting more, I seem to have gained 4 lbs over the past 12 weeks. :confused3

I have been thinking about you and your twins. A few days after your twins were born, my friend had her twin girls who were also due in September. Only thing is she was visiting family in Atlanta when she went into labor so now she's stuck down there with the babies in the NICU. They were super tiny, 2lbs 1oz and 1lb 9oz. She had no problems with the 1st pregnancy so she didn't expect this to happen at 31 weeks, but you just never know.

Thanks for that info on the shots. Do you think the shots helped you keep the twins in as long as you did? My son wasn't super early, 36 weeks, but my daughter was 10 days later at 37 weeks and the OB is concerned that this one could be 34 weeks if the pattern continues and of course we'd rather prevent that if possible. My morning sickness usually goes away arund 17-18 weeks, so I'm hoping that if I start the shots at 14 weeks that the overlap wouldn't be too long so hopefully there wouldn't be much sickness from it. If I didn't have 2 other kids at home I wouldn't care at all, but it is so hard to take care of them while I am so sick, and the thought of doing it through January is scary.

I've been taking progesterone suppositories for several weeks and I think I have a few more to go. I felt queasy for a day and a half, and haven't thrown up at all. Besides my sore ****s, I really feel okay but maybe it's too early for morning sickness. :confused3 I hope I did not just bring a curse upon myself and begin feeling wretchedly ill starting tomorrow.

My friend took the progesterone injections for weeks following her IVF and didn't complain too much about nausea/vomiting. They did make her bottom sore, but she got them daily so each side only got a rest every other day.

Regarding the medical student, all of my doctors are located in a major teaching hospital. I will allow a med or nursing student in to observe, but I won't allow them to touch me. I know they have to practice and learn on someone, but I am not interested in being that someone, lol.

Well, no heartbeat for me yesterday. Got to the doc's office. My doc (whom I have never met) was off delivering a baby. None of the other docs were there. The two midwives were both booked solid all afternoon. SO now I will go on Tuesday and see one of the docs (not my doc), and hopefully all will be well!

Tigger - That's a bit annoying. Hopefully you don't have to pay to park like I do, cause I'd be a little irritated about that.

Chloe - Maybe you are lucky and not going to get morning sickness. Mine started at 5.5 weeks with the 1st 2 kids and 3.5 weeks with this one.

I've been thinking about how I get Braxton Hicks contractions starting at 16 weeks, which I have noticed is earlier than most people, and for the past year and change had all this spotting in the 2nd half of my cycle so I'm wondering now if maybe all that is low progesterone. I'm definitely asking my regular OB before I order the shots, but I'm thinking it looks likely at this point.

Nope, no paying to park. It actually worked out okay, because DS had an out of town soccer game that I know we would be pushing to get to, so we didn't have to rush as much. The hard part was trying to get a new appointment scheduled, because DS and I leave the middle of next week for Cub Scout camp.

Cub scout camp should be fun!

Chloe - I forgot to mention that I am normally okay with med students and residents doing whatever. Since my husband is a resident, I feel kind of hypocritical saying I don't want them anywhere near me, but it's okay for him to work on whomever, if that makes sense. In the past, however, I have requested not to have people who I know were friends with my husband because it's mildly awkward, but at this point that eliminates everyone, including all the OB attendings, so I'm sorta stuck.

Well ladies, I just got back from my doctor's appointment and unless Jake decides to come out on his own then I am scheduled for an induction next Friday the 31st at 5 a.m.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel! I wouldn't mind going naturally, in fact I prefer it, but my doctor is going out of town next weekend and I refuse to have anyone else but her deliver my baby. So if he doesn't come out before then, induction it is.

Definitely a little scared and nervous but very excited too!

How exciting Veronica! I'll hope he comes out in the next week so you're not thrilled about the induction, but I agree that I would rather an induction with my own dr than take my chances with whomever.

My daughter has a friend over and not only are they making ridiculously annoying noises upstairs, but they are mean to my son. I truly hate playdates because I spend hours dealing with my son being excluded and crying. Now I get that he's annoying and I wouldn't want to play with him either if I were a 5yo girl, but they'll tease him by calling him to play, then chasing him away when he joins them. And it really irks me cause my daughter is never like that when she's alone with him, she's always begging him to play with her, so I am not happy with the "tease my little brother to be cool" act.

I started at 6 weeks because I was spotting and cramping-took that away within 2 days but then the nausea started! I don't know if it would have been that bad without-when I asked my doctor he said even though it feels horrible it was a good sign because it meant my levels were good and to hang in.If it didn't get better at 13 weeks he said he would give me something.I had normal sickness with my first(it would be in the morning and when I would brush my teeth but I could eat.)This time I couldn't eat or even move some days-it took all my power to just keep from gagging constantly.I am so glad it is gone and now I am hungry all the time.It felt like it would never go away.

Have you made any progress??

(And how come Sarah got a 10am induction time but you and I got 5am?! :rotfl:)

I started feeling them too at 16 weeks-it is freaking me out a little because with my dd I started having contractions at 29 weeks and was on bed rest and put in the hospital 5 times before I had her. These don't feel the same(they don't hurt and they are not very strong)I make sure to drink alot of water and take it easy if I need it.My doctor is keeping a close eye on me from the begining and hopefully I will not have the same problem but I had low progesterone levels and was on the supposatories till 13 weeks.I used to spot for 3 to six days before my cycle started. It also took me years to get pregnant again. This time I am having a boy and it seems like I have much different symptoms than with my dd so I am hoping I will skip all the problems I had with her(preeclampsia and preterm labor)

Well I've pretty much been stuck at 3-4 cm for 2 weeks but my cervix is still pretty thick according to doctor. So it's possible he may come before then cause she said he's head down and positioned perfectly. He's just being stubborn! I'm kinda hoping he'll come before the induction but if not, oh well.

And yeah, what's up with that?? I didn't realize hers was at 10 a.m. I'm jealous! I don't want to be there that early :rotfl:

How exciting Veronica!! It won't be long now...My cervix is still pretty thick too. I saw my Dr. yesterday and I'm supposed to go back next Tues. to see if I'm inducible yet or not. I suddenly have all this energy, so I'm glad for a few more days to get the house ready and do things with my older kids.

If I do get induced, I will have to check in at 6 a.m. That's just when they do that at this hospital. (10 a.m. sounds better, though.)
