Moms to Be Part 3

I've heard it is 37 weeks :confused3

My Dr said 39, but I know I've read that it was earlier than that...

ETA: lol just opened my 37 week email from Baby Center:
Congratulations! Your baby is full-term! This means that if your baby arrives now, his lungs should be fully mature and ready to adjust to life outside the womb, even though your due date is still three weeks away.

Well, I was hoping to hold off longer, but true to form, once my body had had enough there was no stopping things. I had the twins yesterday, 7/2 by emergency c-section just before 8AM, at 30 weeks, 5 days gestation. Both Dylan Michael & Kathleen Marie (Katie) each weighed 3 lbs 8 oz. They are preemies, but are doing well in the NICU -- I expect them to stay there around 6 weeks or so, best case.

Since I had a c-section I'll be here in the hospital through the holiday weekend. I'm OK, mainly sore from the surgery. Here is a flickr link with a birth day pic of each,

Val - Congrats on the twins. I will keep them in my prayers. How are they? They look beautiful and healthy. I hope your recovery is smooth.

Congrats on almost making it to 31 weeks, they both look gorgeous, glad to hear that they are doing well in the NICU.

I expect to hear the same at my first internal. And even though it's expected I'm sure I'll be disappointed too. I think it's just because we're so close but these last few weeks tend to drag by when we really just want our little ones to be here already. I understand totally! Hopefully at the next appt. you'll have made a little progress :)

I hope so too because odds are good that if I don't start doing something now or next week, my induction will be long and drawn out like my first and my third were. My second and fourth deliveries went quickly (even though they were inductions too) because I was already dilating slowly but surely from weeks 36-40. My second one came in under three hours-it's why he's my favorite. (Kidding ;) But I did have the easiest recovery with him.)

CONGRATULATIONS!! I hope you are recovered soon and that they will be "best case" in all things while in the NICU.

Valerie, sending you hugs and congratulations on the babies!!!
Get alot of rest and take care.

Ann

------------

I will be back with my labor story at some point. I am not feeling great right now, my stomach is bothering me. Just wanted to lurk quick while the baby is sleeping in her swing.

I feel silly to say I won't be posting pics of our newest addition. I am one of those paraniod parents who just chooses not to.

Talk to you all soon, take care of those buns in your ovens!:lmao:

Valarie - Congrats on the twins. I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Sarah - if you go into BabiesRUs and ask for the 10% coupon they might give it to you. I asked the lady running the regristy counter and she save me the coupon, said it I receive one in the mail to throw it away that it won't work. It's worth a shot if you don't want to wait. Plus there is a $5 off $25 coupon on there website that you can print to save even more money. :thumbsup2

Valerie---congratulations on your beautiful twins! I hope you and the babies recover quickly and I'll keep you all in my prayers :goodvibes

Congratulations!! They're beautiful.

(Full term at my hospital/for my OB is 37 weeks.. but she said that is only the point at which she wouldn't stop labor if it occured naturally, she would never induce before 39 weeks.)

Thanks everyone. I haven't yet gotten an update this AM on the kids, but I did go over to the NICU yesterday to see them. Dylan needed a bit more support on Day 1 than Katie did, but that's not surprising, preemie girls tend to do slightly better than preemie boys.

As of last night, both were on CPAP, which is basically air blown into their noses / lungs. And were both moved into isolettes. When babies "check-in" to the NICU, they start out on a warming tray, under basically a heat lamp, so that they can be tended to immediately if they require assistance/intervention. Once they decide that they are more stable, they move them to the isolettes.

I pumped for the first time last night before dinner & already got 2 small vials of colostrum that I had DH run over to the NICU before he went home. So it's there & ready & waiting when they decide to start up feeds.

I'm beat. Recovering from a c/s is no fun, I gotta say. But they want me up & moving, so I'm trying to keep up w/ the pain meds (percoset.) I feel like my insides were beaten w/ a baseball bat & then given a good stir w/ a wooden spoon for good measure.

Physically, I felt much better after my son's v@ginal delivery 6 years ago, even with an episiotomy. 'Course the surprise & shock of his early arrival left me an emotional train wreck for weeks. This time, emotionally I'm pretty good. This was all sort of "expected" or at least anticipated, I know how to navigate the NICU already -- so this time it's just physical recovery.

The twins seem so much bigger & healthier than Dan did when he was born, so right now I'm very hopeful. Hopeful and sore. Honestly, it felt like it took every last bit of my strength, energy, focus and attention to stay pregnant this last month, it's sort of a relief to move on to the next phase. I mean , I would have loved to stay pregnant longer, to shorten the babies' hospital time, but it was very very hard. I'm just glad that I was able to do as well as I did, for as long as I did. I gotta order some breakfast.

Congrats to all the new mommies! DannysMom, your little ones are beautiful, and I think you did a great job carrying them as long as you did! And they really are a pretty sturdy size-great to hear they are doing well already.

Full term at our hospital is 38 weeks. Also what they taught my husband in med school, so I sort of thought it was a standard. When my son was born at 36 weeks they said he was "preterm", which they said meant born between 35 and 37 weeks. Prior to 35 weeks they said the term is "premature". I hadn't known there was that difference till then.

BabyTigger - Glad to hear your husband made it out there safely, but wow on the time! He must have felt guilty, but I'm sure knowing he was okay made it much more bearable to be awakened at that hour.

No big plans here for us this weekend, we saw Ice Age today and went to the zoo (but it's 2 blocks away and free, so we go often) then I came home to embrace the standard afternoon/evening hunger and sickness. I tried napping, but we also bought a vacuum for my son today (don't even ask, he has wanted one for ages and asks everyday) so I kept waking up with the noise of his vacuum. Now my husband is making cracks at how I can't be too sick since I'm on the computer. Like I can only sit and writhe and wait for my next trip to the bathroom. Fun times. And tomorrow he's working another 24 hour shift and it's supposed to rain so I'm trapped in the house with the kids all day, then get to drag them out to swim class during my lovely evening sickness period. I am so not loving my Sundays lately!

We were on-call for an induction on 6/30/09 between 7:30-noon. We had gotten up early to get ready. My SIL was coming to sit with me while DH went to work before there was no guarantee of us getting in. Around 7 am my phone rang. We got the call to go in:cool1:. I called DSIL who was on the way to come get Luke. Called DM to let her know her much awaited grand-daughter should make her appearance today. And then the most important call was made to my BFF Kathy, to notify all my DFs here. I left the house in a whirlwind showing absolutely no signs of my labor beginning on it's own.

We got to the hospital and were in a private labor room by 8am. The started my petocin around 9am. Things progressed slowly over time...no surprise there...you have all been waiting patiently for my little stubborn one as well.
Keep in mind we arrived at 8am and it is now 12:30 and noone, has checked my cervic to see where I had progressed to. I was told the Dr. had been notified and they were watching my print outs on the monitor, but they did not think I was going to make any more progress until the Dr. arrived and broke my water.

Around 12:30 I asked for my epidural, because contractions were starting to be uncomfortable. (Oh my I did not remember my last Epi being so painful when they inserted it.):scared1:. My thought was this brief pain is worth it, since I won't have to feel labor pain...WRONG! 2:00pm comes and still no Dr. and noone has checked my cervic. I keep being told I am make very slow progress. DH & I are alone watching TV and I told him. Not sure but I think I am feel uncomfortable from cathater, then I thought I shouldn't feel anything down there at all. Nurse came back for a check, and I mentioned small discomfort I was having. She called the anesthesia nurse to check my Epidural and see if I could get more drugs. As the labor nurse and anesthesia nurse were checking pain was increasing quickly. I was told it was to soon and I could not get anymore drugs for a bit. :headache:

Of course change of nurse shifts was at 3pm. My nurse taking her time leaving and trying to wait me out. By 3pm I was in full blown labor, feeling everything  and still waiting on the Dr. (He kept getting called into emergency surgery and was here just not with me) The nurse finally gave in and checked my cervic. She said you are 10 cm. dialated and the head is right there. She told me you are going to have this baby before she got to her car in the parking lot. She was right. In walked to Dr. (who I love and was thrilled he was the one oncall). He strolls in and says, lets have a baby like it is nothing...as I am screaming just a bit. ;) DH might tell this part diff., he likes to pick on me. Dr. sits down and three intense pushes later our little girl was out by 3:24pm weighing 7 lbs 5 oz and 20 inches long. She did great with the apgar scores 8 & 10. Happy tears were all around, she is just beautiful. She has a ton of dark hair (which explains my heartburn), blue eyes. I know eye color can change but my fingers are crossed they stay blue.

Day two- I was on-call once again for a tubal. I could not eat or drink anything from midnight the previous night till I had the procedure. I waited all day and finally got in at 5:10pm. It was quick and painless because my spinal worked out well. I had two of my Dr. assist each other in the surgery because because they change shifts at 5pm. My spinal did wear off quickly in recover, the nurse was surprised. I think I am one of those people who drugs are very hard to effect.

My hospital stay was nice. Most of my brothers and their families came in.
My DM came in with my oldest DB. My only heartache while there was that my Dad's back was just to bad for him to make during my stay. He was so heartbroken and called me in tears, we both cried. We did take the kids over to my parents house on the way home. Dad is now feeling a bit better. He wanted to comes visit yesterday.

Well, I think I have bored you all enough with the details. I am sorry there are no pics attached, but I am protective about that. You know it is killing me not to posts pics of both my pride and joys.

DisneyRon - Wow, I would have been a bit irritated that I couldn't get more meds in the epidural! Especially since I don't think they were entirely right on not being able to give you more meds. At least you didn't have to push long cause I know from my non-medicated 2nd delivery that the amount of pain right before they come out is way intense!

How's the recovery from the tubal going? Do you think it's easiest to have it done when you give birth? My friend is getting one done next month and looking for reports from others.

I can understand not wanting to post photos. In my other screenname, I had a picture of my kids in my signature. Then one day about 2 years ago I got a PM from some man who said his 4yo daughter saw my 4yo daughter's picture and wanted to be pen pals. Uh, no thanks. I was pretty creeped out and took down the photo frommy signature after that. I will post photos in this thread (or others if the need arises), but won't keep one in my sig anymore.

My kids are fighting over puzzles so I should go. The joys of being up for 2 hours on a Sunday at only 8:30am!

Valerie,
You're in my thoughts. I hope they do awesome and are home with you before you know it!

Valarie - Congrats on the twins. I hope you begin to feel better soon.

I can't believe no one would check your cervix!! That's just insane..."you're not progressing, but we're not bothering to check to make sure that is actually true!"

Hi all,

Just wanted to drop in and see how everyone is feeling?

We are still working on our night-time schedule. I had a problem with some swelling today in just one of my feet. Dr. on call told me to watch for certain changes and if it keeps up to come in tomorrow to have it check. It seems to just be from two solid days of IVs, but we are watching for clotting.

I got into a pair of pre-pregnancy denim shorts today!!! I am down 15 pounds after delivering, 10 less thing my original baby weight.
Now to keep it off, right now I just feel to busy to eat.

Appointment update:

Looks like I'm going to be induced between the 22-24. My Dr is on vacation or something my 40th week, so she said we can either induce one of those days or I can try to wait and go natural and have the chance she won't be there...and if I don't go before she gets back, she'll want to induce me as soon as she comes back. So I have an appointment Monday of that week to make sure I've progressed and conditions are favorable--if not she won't induce me. I haven't really had any progression so far, but I have had a little BH this week, which she said is a good sign.

I've been with this Dr for 16 years and she's going to deliver my baby-dang it!

(And I'm still under 200 pounds! Though, I'm really close...lol)

I know how you feel about having your Dr. there. I'll bet conditions will be favorable by then too. So...how exciting! I'm still under 200 lbs. too, but like you, I'm really close.

Something that I found to help with getting ready for inductions was to sit on a stability ball and rock side-to-side. (And even if it didn't really help, it sure felt good for my lower back and hips anyway.) Of course, my stability ball has long been turned into a plaything by my other kids, so I'm just using a chair lately (I'm too cheap to buy another ball three weeks from my due date-pitiful, I know).
