Moms to Be Part 3

Skylarr! Your shower looked great - what an amazing cake! I almost freaked out when I saw that all-star onsie you got with the baseball on the butt! DH and I bought onecfor our baby, before we knew the baby was a she - but I'll just make a bow and she'll be wearing it this time next year to "atch" the all-star game :)

So, so sorry! I wish I had advice for you, but I'm on kid 3, with intense, all-day, "morning" sickness and still have not found anything that helps. With #2, I did eat Saltines a lot and that seemed to help, but I can't even bear the thought of a cracker this time so clearly it is not a cure all. I hope it at least ends soon for you!
Thanx!! I'm only on my first and it's crazy how sick I've gotten :flower3:

I had all day sickness (worse in the morning and at night) until about 14 weeks. Saltines is what I could usually get down - sucking on a sour candy really helped sometimes. I got a box of lemon drops and would suck on them until it got to the sweet part and would spit it out.
thank you people tell to eat them before I get out of bed. I'll try the lemon drops!! :flower3:

Motion sickness bands worked for me even though I was only slightly sick for about a week.

Thanx!! Where did you get the bands from? Your shower was sooo cute

Oh and about saving the fondant animals they will harden if you leave them out and as long as they don't get wet then your good to go! :thumbsup2 You also might want to call the baker cause they also might have some type of spray you can use. And also an air tight container will work too It's really easy If you saw my bridalshower cake the teacups are fondant and I still have them and there as good as new I put them in a bag and then froze them. :flower3:

Congrats and welcome to all the new Moms to Be !!!!!!

To those of you almost at the top of the list, good luck and well wishes!!!

I have not been around much on this thread or the new Moms thread since Emma came. I need some serious time management training. I do not have much extra time to DIS with two little ones.

Melissa, loved the shower pics. You both look so happy and finally a bit relaxed. Your little boy will be here soon!!!!

I was going to say to freeze them too. I have limited experience with fondant, but I know our wedding cake froze okay and it was covered in fondant.

Skylarr that cake is adorable!! I am so glad you got a bunch of pictures of it cause you need to show your little boy one day. Seems like you guys had a great shower!

Arubio - I forgot, one other thing that periodically helps me is ice cold lemon water. Not lemonade as I can't tolerate sweet foods, but water with lemon squeezed in it. Plain water tastes good, but does not seem to stay down well, but the lemon somehow helps. Of course it's not a guarantee, sometimes I have no desire for lemon water, but more often than not it helps settle the queasiness.

Another thing, if you had trouble brushing your teeth, like I do, a friend told me she used to hum "rainbow connection". Ridiculous as it sounds, I tried it and it's enough to get my mind off the gag reflex most of the time to get through brushing my teeth. I often brush my teeth in the shower in the mornings too because it's sort of a guarantee that I'll at least gag, if not vomit, so not that I want to vomit in the shower, but then at least I can shower and feel somewhat refreshed afterwards.

So I used the great advice from here and made my daughter (and son, though really he has no clue, nor can he read anyway) an invitation to the ultrasound on Monday. I figured I should tell her now since it's in a few days and I figured she might need time to absorb everything. Plus I think it will make my life a bit easier regarding how I am constantly tired and sick and her not understanding why. Well anyway, she didn't get it at first. She said she did want to go with me to the dr that takes pictures of babies in your belly, but she had no idea that there was actually one in there. So when I said that you only go there when there is an actual baby growing in there she got so excited I thought she'd explode. :) She jumped up and hugged me and went on and on saying how excited was, asked if she could tell all her friends and teachers at camp (so glad I told her now as it's her last week at this camp and I know she'd have been upset if she didn't get to share her news here), and then asked if I can make her a shirt that says "Biggest of all". My son then asked for a shirt with Elmo on it. ;) He also told me he wants 2 babies. I said that's unlikely and he got pretty disappointed, but seemed to move on once he remembered the Elmo shirt.

I know I don't post much, but I still thought I'd share about my special delivery! Isabelle Nicole was born on July 11, 2009 (17 days early)! She weighed in at 6 lbs., 10 oz., and is 19.5" long :lovestruc

For those of you that are (or aren't) making as much progress as you want, believe me, things can happen a WHOLE lot quicker than expected. My last weekly exam was last Thursday, and I was only dilated at 1, effaced at 60%, and the baby was at a station of -1. 3:15am Saturday morning my water was breaking! :scared1: Now at that point, I had not lost my mucous plug, or noticed much of any contractions, so needless to say, I was quite surprised, and still thought I had about another 2 weeks to get ready for everything to be in order.

I'm going to spare you all the details of my delivery as it was a long and painful one, that I wasn't necessarily prepared for. The short of it is that I was admitted into the hospital at 5am, and did not deliver until 5:54pm, through means of vacuum extraction. She was sunny side up, and the doctor really didn't want to do a cesarean because she thought I could deliver just fine on my own. She is jaundiced pretty bad, and has to use a biliblanket, but at least she's at home with us. Even though it wasn't the best delivery, the end result is all what it's worth.

Good luck to everyone!

jaleaton, your daughter is GORGEOUS :lovestruc what a sweetheart! Sorry that your delivery was so rough but looks like it was worth it in the end. She's beautiful! Best wishes to you and your little one :goodvibes

So I FINALLY bought Jake's crib today and got it set up. That was the very last thing I needed. Now everything's complete and I am ready for him to be here. My mom helped me out by washing a bunch of the receiving blankets and stuff so that's all done. Now I just need him to get here!

And if you're interested, this is the crib I bought:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3497224

I  his crib. It's gorgeous. And it was really easy to put together! With some help of course ;) It was pricey but it converts to a toddler bed and then a full size bed so I felt it was worth the price. It seems really sturdy and well made too.

Oh and right now BRU has 50% off any Serta mattress if you buy a crib that's over $279...so I got the mattress for about 45 bucks which I was very happy about.

Congrats jaleaton! Isabelle is beautiful, that's a perfect photo. I hope the jaundice clears up fast, I know those heel pricks are no fun for a new mommy.

Congratulations!:lovestruc She is just beautiful. Thanks for telling us about her.

AWW!! (I am extra touched, because you used my idea  ). So glad she is excited!! Bet she'll love the biggest sister of all shirt!! How will you make it, an iron on or do you have an embroidery sewing machine (I do, PM me if I can help you out!!)

CONGRATS!!! SHE IS GORGEOUS!!

Now I just need him to get here!

OMG!! That is the SAME crib DH and I have picked out! So, obviously I am biased, but I love it!

I am ridiculously untalented, so I have no idea where to begin. I do have a scrapbook program on my computer that I think can make iron-on designs, is that the easiest way to go? I can do graphic designs on there well enough, but I've never really had to reproduce them. The extent of my knowledge was making names with Disney characters forming the letters (if that makes sense) for my friend when she went on a Disney cruise in February. I printed them onto magnet paper and cut out the letters and they looked pretty good. But that was also a pretty linear idea.

The Elmo shirt for my son will be much easier!:lmao: My daughter just looked at him like he was crazy when he said he wants an Elmo shirt and told him he makes no sense. Gotta love how blunt 5yos can be.

HomeSweetDisney (and Adi), I love that crib! I really wanted one like that cause I think they feel so solid and sturdy-ours was pretty shaky with my son, though it could just be cause I constructed it while 8 months pregnant. ;) Really though, I think it's cause there are 2 drop sides, so it's not all 'together' like the one in the link, and I prefer that solid feel. I had such a fear that my son was going to shake the crib apart once he was able to stand up. But I digress, my point is that I think it's a really pretty, nice crib! And how exciting to have it picked and be able to set it up and stuff.

You can do something with the scrapbook program and print it on an iron on sheet (you have to set the printer setting to do a mirror image). The HP iron on sheets work really well.

I have an embroidery machine and could possibly make something and send it to you, but I'm not sure if it would make it on time (it could if sent priority mail). . . I would do it just for the cost of supplies (shirt and shipping), if you'd like :) I'd do it for free, but I think DH mght kill me, lol (not really but you know what I mean). I could get a shirt for a few bucks at walmart or Target :) I have a few different embroidery letters that would work out nicely! Let me know (you can OM me).

HomeSweetHome & Adi- We have that crib as well (along with the armoire and combo)-- except ours is in oak not cherry. Our house is mostly all cherry things so we figured our little man's room could be different. It took FOREVER to come in because it is such a popular style. We finally have the room semi- set up (well-- the furniture is in anyway)... and we love it! Just a warning though- the armoire is huge-- especially front to back!

We originally picked the oak - b/c we didn't see the cherry on display, and then switched. I am a fan of cherry furniture, like you, most of our stuff is cherry. I narrowed down my likes of cribs to 3 and then let DH whichever one he liked best and that's the one he picked. He liked that it had all the woodwork/carvings, and it was less than our second favorite, so that made the choice easier. We wanted something sturdy to be able to use for the future. . . DH and I want a couple more (we'll see though, I'll get back to you after I deliver this one :rotfl:). Thankfully it is in stock around here at the three closest babiesRUs to us, so that won't be an issue (I HOPE).

I had to laugh cause you reminded me of myself here, wanting a few more kids but totally knowing that might change after delivery! What made my decision this time around that #3 will be the last and we will not try for a 4th is the crazy sickness. I am already freaking about the delivery cause I know I don't want an epidural after the great experience I had with my son, but worrying if I can withstand the pain. So between the labor fear and the morning sickness, I am so done!

And I'll be sending you a PM, thanks for the offer!

Sarah, what did you decide? Are you going to be induced or are you waiting?

(Heading to my PP appt. but will check back later for details-- can't believe it's been 6 weeks!!)

You probably saw this on facebook, but I wantd to tell everyone else anyway.

Had my appointment today. The exam was VERY uncomfortable, much worse than usual. My Dr was really rooting around in there.:scared:
Anyway, no progression. So I have another appointment on Monday with my Dr and we will decide then if I'm going to be induced or not. If not, I'll make an appointment with one of the other drs for when mine is gone and my Dr would induce me if I don't go by the time she gets back.

So now we wait until Monday. I'm still very uncomfortable from the exam (5 hours ago) and Lily wasn't very happy about it either! lol

Did you only have the one u/s?? I am still worried and they've told us it is a girl 4 times. . . . When I was making baby shower invites (that had different accents - one of which was pink) I just kept saying, this beter be a girl, or I'll be mad at him for not showing his stuff sooner! Hopefully your Dr. was right!
Yes, just the one.

Sarah - On your ultrasound, did they actually see girl parts, or just the absence of boy parts? If they said they saw girl stuff, then I think clear or not, you can be pretty confident that you're having a girl. If it's just that they didn't say anything boyish, then you might have reason to be concerned.

Umm, I think we saw girl parts...I read that article about the turtle vs the hamburger buns and it very much looked like hamburger buns.

I'm so jealous! She is GORGEOUS! Thank you so much for posting about the lack of progress thing too.

Seems all the moms I know are going early and Lily seems very content where she is...I just want her here so DH can be with us.

You can also try on the DISign board too - they have some great designs already made up you just copy, paste and print. You never know what you might find! (And I'm sure there is an Elmo one too that someone could make - maybe AmyMickey has one in her photobucket - and you can see about adding "I'm the Big Brother" to it too...)

I must be the odd one out with not getting a crib from BabiesRUs. We got ours from Sams Club; came with a changing table/dresser and convertable crib. Surprisingly we got it within a week of ordering! Here's ours: http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=417979

Jaleaton - she is adorable!!!

Sarah - sorry to hear about the exam! I heard the exact same thing from my friend who had her second internal last week - and her doctor is on vacation - I wonder if you guys go to the same one?! She didn't like her at all because of how rough she was. Her regular doctor is also on vacation right now.

Actually it was MY Dr who did my exam today, she won't be gone until my 40th week (week of the 27th). She wasn't exactly rough, just very thorough.:scared:

Third trimester ladies...

Do you ever have days where your stomach feels extremely tight all day long? Mine feels particularly tight on the sides and up high. I can tell my stomach is moving further north (ive been carrying low)... and im not sure if this is my rib cage expanding or what. LOL i have been eating quite a few cinnamon rolls lately-- lol now im starting to get scared. lol

Anyway, it almost feels like a balloon that has expanded to its max... full of water (heavy). I can still stick my stomach out farther than it is by a little bit-- so i know its not like im stretching the skin on the outside-- it just feels very very tight and very full today. Its hard to do much of anything... even eat. lol. Walking, sitting, laying down, nothing seems to really take the weight/tight'ness off.

Anyone else experiencing/experienced this??
