Moms Panel Results!?

You know, this is interesting, I think Disney picked the name "moms panel" because it sounds more inviting than "parents panel" and if a dad is comfortable enough in his own role, whatever that is, and qualified to take part in this, then I say more power to him! Disney is not going to discriminate due to gender, or anything else. They are also a marketing genious and will choose a title that sounds safe. They are playing their cards right.

I didn't get picked either:sad1: . As a "cookie cutter", caucasion, protestant, stay-at-home mom of 3 daughters, and Disney guru;), I do not feel cheated, but have the utmost respect for these Dads or non-parents who sent in their applications anyway. You can't blame them for trying, and you can't blame Disney for noticing (remember 10,000 applications to go through:coffee: ~that deserves some respect)!

I agree with you, they just need to call it what it is. When they say on a commercial that three out of four dentists approve... I expect that those are raelly dentists that are approving, not vets that felt left out because they weren't asked and Crest didn't want to discriminate. :) I think the dads around here have some really great advice. I listen to it and don't ignore them just because they are men. Just call the group what it is.

I definitely agree the Dads on this forum have some great advice. To me their ability to offer great advice was never a question. I just think a "Mom's Panel" is a panel staffed by Mom's. :confused3
Its not that I think I am # 13 on their list, I probably am # 9998 on their list of 10,000, because like Polynesian Pixie said I am caucasian, protestant mother of 2 kids, who loves Disney. Typical middle class Disney loving mother. I guess in my zest for the competition I felt hurt to think someone was entered and picked who I didn't think Disney was looking for or who I was competing against.
I guess I just need to get over my rejection and plan my next trip:sad:

As far as the men go....shame on you dads!!!! I know I will get ALOT of hate mail for this. But I know I was content with my rejection until I read how several dads made the cut to the 2nd round. Now I'm Pissed!!! I know in this day & age you can't discriminate, and I know there are many, many dads out there who plan the trips for their families and know more than I do. I'm sure there are plenty of dads who would offer great vacation advice - I've gotten a bunch from bradk on this forum...But...IMHO I think Disney was trying to tap into the "Mom Market". They probably didn't realize that an interest existed with the dads. I think it was somewhat unfair of them to not automatically exclude the dads, because the contest rules stated they were looking for 12 MOMS. I question whether Disney, being a big corp. and wishing to avoid any bad press with people saying they are discriminating against dads, advanced some dads to cover their butts. But now, since they changed their rules, I think they need to change the name of the panel from moms panel to parents panel.

Sorry if I offend anyone

Well, the rules in fact did not state they were looking for 12 Moms. It is called the Mom's panel for some reason, but no where in the rules did it say you had to be a mom to enter. In fact the information about the panel said something to the effect that you didn't have to be a mom because there are all kinds of families (or something like that)

I have to agree that maybe Disney should not have called this a Mom's Panel, but I'm not upset with people who entered who aren't moms. Again, it was not in the rules that you had to be a mom, so dads or whoever had every right to submit an application. I don't begrudge them a spot, to me a Disney lover is a Disney lover, mom, dad or otherwise.

I totally agree with you. I am considered the expert of all things Disney in my circle of friends and have had requests to plan others trips. I am a DVC member and now and AP holder and mentioned that in my app. I also mentioned that I am the mother of an autistic child, hoping it would differentiate me from everyone, knowing I have different issues to manage when conquering Disney.

As far as the men go....shame on you dads!!!!

I really hope that whole post was a joke.

Shame on dads who entered????? Are you serious?:sad2:

I'd be willing to bet 90% of people on the DIS are considered Disney "experts" in their circle of friends. Being an AP holder or a DVC member should have no bearing either way. I'm sure there are many parents who applied that have autistic, mentally handicapped, sick or other unfortunate circumstances with their children.

Such sour grapes.

I'm not upset with the men, either. In fact, I hope we have many DISers who advance. But, Disney needs to call it what it is.

Sorry if I offend anyone

Well, if the Dis demographics are 50/50, you've probably offended at least HALF of the people reading here. And then if you add in those of us who know that dads are just as important in families as moms are, you're probably over the 50% mark.

If you had read the rules in the beginning, you would know that men were included. That is NOT new. So they called it a "moms" panel and included dads. Big deal.

I cannot BELIEVE how many people are so upset about not getting selected. Do you have any idea how many people entered this contest? Do you know how small your chances of being selected were? Seriously, some of you need a reality check.

I still haven't heard anything. Is there any other way I can check? I am pretty sure I didn't make it, but who knows!! I hope my Mail marshal at work didn't block the e-mail. That would be sad.

Why are people getting so upset? You win some you lose some. Congratulations to EVERYONE who made it through to the next round! You must be so excited!!!!!

Please keep us posted on the results!!!! YAAAAYYY!!!! :cheer2:

ITA! I was so annoyed at some posters that I focused on that in my earlier post and forgot to say CONGRATS to everyone who was selected! Enjoy and let us know what happens! :woohoo: :cheer2:

You know, I didn't hear either (i'm assuming I didn't get picked), but I'm chalking that up to having been late getting my application in. I had been on vacation the week Disney announced and then they closed it by the time I got back. Still tried though:confused3 . From what I understand, those whose applications were received got an email confirmation. Did you get that?

I got an email confirmation that I submitted the application, bot no accepted/rejected email. :confused3 I don't know. It feels like waiting for my accpetance letters from college ALL OVER AGAIN! :rotfl:

I am just assumming I didn't get picked, which is okay by me! :hippie:

I just noticed that most of the Disers who have made it so far, don't have many posts. I wonder then what the attraction was to applying for an online Disney community when many of the 2nd rounders listed don't post much on here? Perhaps it was being an official Disney employee?

Just wondering, Tiger :)

Yes, Tiger I had that same idea in the back of my head as well.

I'm beginning to think the panel is a random selection.

Personally I'll be looking here on the DIS for my Disney info...not "disney's" mom's panel...:thumbsup2

Congrats again to all the people who were selected to move on...male or female!! I just wanted to add that they could not really call it a "Parent's Panel" either due to they selected someone who did not have any kids at all. So, maybe they could call it "WDW's Expert Panel of everything Disney". That way no one would feel "weird" they were on a Mom's panel if in fact they were not a Mom/female. Just my weird way of thinking? I felt all along there would be controversy about what they were calling it. There are so many different, blended families out there and really it would be unfair to discriminate and not include all WDW planning experts.

As I posted days ago I was not selected BUT I also want to say I am a little confused as to why some of you feel so "rejected"? As with any contest you enter you must know that "everybody" can not win. Take it in stride! I would hate to think that a few of you are "really" this upset about NOT being selected to move on. CHEER UP!!

To those of you that got the rejection letter with the statement about being contacted for something in the future...if I remember reading the contest rules correctly didn't it say that the 12 chosen would be for 6 months? If so, then maybe they are going to contact these other people for the next 6 months? Again, just a thought! Here's to wishing, hoping and believing in all things DISNEY.

Oh well, I'm one who never heard anything, one way or the other. Guessing at this point that the response, whatever it was, got lost in the ether.:confused3

Best of luck to those selected to continue and lots of pixie dust!:wizard: :wizard:
