Well, when we got home to NY DH and discussed it again. He already knew what my thoughts were on it! He told me he wanted to see the numbers worked out.
Nick had presented us with the numbers and it all made perfect sense but he wanted to make sure that it really worked out that way.
He also wanted to know how many points we should buy, we were going back and forth between the 160 minimum purchase and 200, and he wanted to know approx how many trips it will take for us to break even on the purchase.
I probably know my DH better then he know himself and I know the engineer in him wants to see the cold, hard facts laid out in front of him.
Thank the computer gods for Microsoft Excel! Using the currently little used skills I obtained in my former employment where I was known as the spreadsheet queen because it was my sole job to export information from our computer system, put it into a spreadsheet and analyze it, I was able to quickly come up with something concrete for DH to look at.
No spin on it from me because I reallllllly wanted us to buy. No spin from Nick because its his job to sell it to us.
Just the concrete numbers in black and white. Everything he wanted right there! Yea me!
Of course, the numbers where the same as Nick presented to us!
I didnt need any convincing. I knew we should do it!
I could tell from the nodding of DHs head he thought we should too!!!!
2 weeks after we sat with Nick I spoke to him on the phone and got the ball rolling!
We are now the very proud owners of 200 DVC points!!!!! All the official documents in hand including our membership cards and our deed!!!
We chose AKV as our home resort and cant wait to stay there at some point! The room model was truly beautiful!!
I still cant believe it!!! Really, really, really cant believe it!
I had always hoped that one day we would own DVC. I knew it was the right thing for us to do. But, I had my doubts as to whether DH would go for it. He tends to be much, much more frugal then me.
But it made sense to him to do it. Weve been 5 times since 05 and he knows by now that there is no way hes going to be able to stop me from going that frequently in the future. He liked the idea that our vacations to WDW have been secured for 50 some years. He also liked knowing that the vacation that costs us 200 or so points this year will cost us 200 or so points in 2050. It made sense to buy now because we could and in a few years the 200 points we bought this year will be worth more $$.
The stars aligned perfectly for us!
I still cant get over it!

WE ARE OFFICIALLY DVC OWNERS!!

Of course being official DVC owners leads to planning another trip! I have 200 points ready to use!!
So, the plan right now is to return to WDW January 9th 16th 2010! We will borrowing some points from our 2010 use year (our use year falls in February) and hopefully staying at a Grand Villa at Old Key West with my sister, her DH and their 3 kids!!! Although there is a good chance that we will actually be changing that to Dec 5th 12th! Ill fill you in more on that soon!
So, now that the suprise has been revealed and I can put up my DVC tags and a new ticker we'll get back to the TR!
After spending close to 3 ½ on the DVC tour it was time for us to leave! Nick took us to the ice cream shop and we opted to skip the ice cream, I still believe we skipped free ice cream. So they called for a van to come take us back to DHS. While we waited we chatted with the girl at the desk and we mentioned that we hadnt been able to get a FP for TSM earlier and she told us that she had a secret for us that not everyone knew. It seems that the handy dandy DVC FP also work in the birthday machines. So even if the ride is out of FPs for the day we should be able to get one! She said she had heard it from another DVC CM and that she couldnt guarantee it would work but it was worth a try.
Our van arrived soon and we rode back to DHS with a very interesting CM who talked about such wonderful things as the deaths of her mother, father and husband. I really felt bad for her but it was truly a bizarre conversation!
I noticed on her id tag that it said she had been employed at WDW since 1971!! I was super impressed and really wanted to ask her about it. I mean shed worked there as long as its been there! But, I didnt get the chance. Oh well!!
Back at DHS we headed straight for TSM to give our DVC FP cards a try in the birthday machine. Of course the birthday machine was roped off and you couldnt enter. DH said we should ask a CM but I felt kinda funny asking. So DH went off to find a CM. While I waited for him to returned I watched a man give a poor young female CM a tongue lashing about how its not fair that there are no more FPs for TSM and theres a 90 minute wait and how they need a better system for their customers who are paying so much and on and on and on. I really wanted to tell the man to shut up and get up early and arrive at rope drop like every other person who wanted a FP or wait the dang 90 minutes! Its not this girls fault and she truly had this deer in the head lights look on her face! Poor thing! What a jerk!
Soon DH arrived with a CM who escorted him through the ropes, put our DVC FP cards in and out popped 2 instant TSM FPs!!!! Yippeee!!!
We quickly enter the FP line and waited a good 20 minutes to ride! It was, of course, a great ride! It really is very, very cool. But I HATE that it whips you around so hard! Its crazy! I think the ride should be a lot smoother from on scene to another.
After my victory at Buzz Lightyear I had high hopes for TSM but DH kicked my butt! LOL! I dont remember what the score was but he won by A LOT!
After TSM we discussed what we wanted to do. I was like 5:30 or a little later and decided to skip the rest of the park and head out. But not before going on a hunt for ice cream.
Yes, ice cream. An hour before we could have had free ice cream at the DVC ice cream shop. But we skipped it. Now we were looking for ice cream to pay for!
The thing is, I prefer soft serve ice cream and I believe the ice cream at the DVC center in all hard. Not to mention at this point I was feeling a little hungry and starting to crash a little. I knew some ice cream would hit the spot and get me to our 8:30 dinner reservation!
We found the ice stand on Echo Lake at DHS! We waited on line forever! I think everyone was having ice cream for dinner that night or something! But it was worth it! I said this before, I swear ice cream tastes a little bit better at WDW!!! Yummmmmmy!!!
We sat on a wall near the ice cream stand and ate and then started heading for the front of the park. Of course we had to stop and do some shopping first. I bought 3 stuff animals in one shop, 1 for each kiddo and then we headed to Keystone Clothier, I really like this shop but didnt buy anything!
On our way down the street I realized that it was now about 6:30ish and we hadnt printed out our boarding passes for our 5:15 southwest flight home the next day! CRAP!
So we headed to guest services in the front of the park and a super nice CM printed them out for us. We got lucky and got assigned somewhere in the middle of A. Phew!
Then we finally left DHS and headed back to Poly to get ready for dinner!
