I have a 13 y/o dd.. who is all teen .. and you know what that means.... gotta love 'em..

anyway I have trying to buy new shorts for her.. but this season the inseam on shorts in the jr. dept are all 2 inches and less...

She refuses to wear misses size.. they are a bit baggy.. but dang I refuse to let a 13 y/o girl walk around with shorts THAT short...

She has been fairly co-op with me on this issue.. but is begining to buck at my opinion.. natural I know.. she is wearing capri's
Thank goodness that capris are still in style. We may begin to fashion cut-offs soon....but who want to wreck a pair of $25 jeans??

She has a cute figure wears a size 3/5 so it is not tight on her.

Anybody ANYWERE have an idea where to find shorts with inseams longer than 2 inches??
Thank you for letting me vent... and Thanks for any and all suggestions
Joan

My dd is also 13 so I know exactly what you are going thru! Old Navy has shorts with a variety of inseams. That's where I got my daughter some shorts since she didn't want to wear the super short shorts.

Hi Joan! I know what you mean about the shorts. Have you tried Old Navy yet? I've been able to get things there that both my DD and I can agree on, and their prices are good too. Good luck!

LOL, yeah I know. I made a compromise. She is able to wear short shorts at home, but not out in public. And I told her if I ever did see her in her shorts in public, I was putting a great big plaid ruffle along the hem.

{{{hugs}}}

Ok.. to Old Navy we go .. and that will be tonight as I have to be in the mall anyway.. Thank you for understanding my predicament.

I have been told in a familiar 13 year old's whine "but MOOOOOM ...EVERYBODY ELSE is WEARING THEM AT SCHOOL"

 these are the days I get jealous of the schools with uniforms...

LOL

At old navy the shortest inseam i think they have is 3 inches. I love the shorts they have there, they fit me almost perfectly.

The middle schools here dress codes states that when your arms are down on your sides - the shorts must be as long or longer than the end of your fingers - or student will be sent home for correct clothes - there are other articles of clothing not allowed either

Joan, I could have written your post word for word! My 13 yr. old DD wants the super short shorts, and basically that's all we can find. When I do find shorts that are a little longer she freaks out and refuses to wear them. She says she will be made fun of at school. I told her that I guess she will be wearing jeans all summer then. Her problem is exacerbated by the fact that she is rather short waisted and has very long legs. The shorts look even shorter on her than they would on someone else.

Marla, our school has the exact same rule. All shorts must be as long as your fingertips when your arms at your side, or you get sent home. That is the reason lots of kids won't even wear shorts to school. I have to say though, the only place we can find shorts THAT long is in the misses' dept., and there's no way the girls are going to wear them.

Don't waste your time at Old Navy. DD and I had it out there. :( I don't know what to say. :(

Hi Joan,
My 13 yo DD and I just went to Kohl's and got some decent shorts there in the Junior department. She thinks they are 'too long' but the school does not allow short-shorts (thank-you). I hate the styles for young teens now and it is a difficult time, especially when most of the clothes are so sleazy looking. I'll have to check out Old Navy next. Good luck!

Thanks guys I sure appreciate the support and ideas!

Mother's of teen girls UNITE!!! We shall pass the VALIUM at the end of the meeting!

SILLY GEESE!

Columbia has some really cute cargo style shorts with reasonable inseams. They are also not too low rise so they would probably be a nice compromise. I wear a size 3 and I fit in the girls size 10/12 so the 13 year olds out there would probably do fine with the kid's sizes. They also come in a huge variety of colours and my 16 year old DD thought they were really cute.

Her problem is exacerbated by the fact that she is rather short waisted and has very long legs. The shorts look even shorter on her than they would on someone else.

This is the story of my life. When I was 15, I sort of liked it, at 38, I don't. :teeth:

I also saw some cute shorts at Kohl's - they seemed to have a good variety of all lengths.

Just have to like those uniforms for the kids. :)

It is amazing how some of the young teen girls look today, truly like Vegas hookers.

Ah yes...12yo dd needs shorts and I peeked into the Jrs dept (w/o her) and about passed out. Even the gym shorts were that SHORT!
I have had better luck with the "other" shops like Aeropostle and shops like that. I do have my fingers crossed as I have not yet searched...
I 'll check out Old Navy and if anyone comes across a gold mine let me know.

I am SO glad I am not alone here!! DD and I walked out of Abercrombbie in a fit of rage a few weeks back. She was adamat about getting this one pair of shorts (34.50) and I said she looked like a "hoochy moma girl"!! They were up her butt!! I was willing to buy her another pair, not so short, but she was so bent on getting this pair, we stormed out of the store with NOTHING!!

Kohls does have a better selection but according to my DD they are too long. Problem with DD is that she has a very athletic, slender build. She has a very thin waist with 6 pack abs!! Her butt is hard as a rock but round!! (all atttributed to cheerleading!). Clothes are too big around the waist and snug on the butt!!

She will be wearing jeans all summer!!!!!!!!!!

We will get through this stage.............won't we!!!

I just say Thank God for Capri's and dress codes. My 13yo DD is really small and skinny. Just try to find shorts that fit around the waist and are long enough. It's not going to happen. She'll wear her capri's until the end of school (hoping for no 100 degree days) and then she can wear semi-short shorts in the summer. There is a dress code in the JH but last year in Elm. there was none. It was amazing what some of these kids went out of the house looking like. But as everyone has said just try to find shorts that cover your bum!

i have been looking for shorts for me!!! if you have a fashion bug near you, try looking there. i dont know for a fact but from the store window they looked to be a decent length.
i am so not looking forward to this!!! LOL. i dont have a DD but i take the girl that babysits for me shopping for her dad (he is single parent). the last couple years have been ok. but i can already tell that this year will be difficult. good luck with everyones shopping.

I guess I should be counting my blessings. My DD is 14 and she doesn't even want to try on the ones that are super short and she's really modest in her dress. We found shorts at Old Navy. I believe their shorts come in 3 lengths, 3", 6" and maybe 9". We got the 6" ones. Really cute! Good luck!

Oh, yes I DO understand!!! Actually I got lucky this year. We went to a sale at JCPenny's and I got all her shorts there. They are finger tip length. Ashley is VERY tall and it's all legs. So it's really hard to find shorts that she can wear to school. I have no clue what it is about these shorts wear their but can hang out, but my girl's not wearing them!!
I believe the ones Ash got were Union Bay and Mudd. The others were athletic type and this one pair she promised she would only wear at home. They were on the boarder line of what I call to short, but I compromised. She got both jean and khaki kinds. Maybe you might have some luck there. I know store like aeropostale and american eagle are out of the question. She loves them, but all there stuff is waaaaay to short.

We should all make a moms club.....we'll probably need each other in the days to come!!!:) ;)

Good Luck!!!
