I can't wholehearted recommend Tony's because of past experiences but this years lunch was pretty good. It is really a hit and miss place for us.

Enjoying your reviews so far. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for reading! Hope to get another day up tomorrow!

Sunday, August 28th started out in EPCOT. We had an early lunch at Via Napoli.

img_2196.jpg

img_2197.jpg

We checked in before the restaurant was even open and were like the 3rd family seated. Our waiter was Massimo and for some reason he rubbed me the wrong way. He was soooo over the top. Like an actor playing an Italian waiter. He was efficient though so I guess that is the main thing.

DS and I had iced tea. DH got a glass of chianti. Just a bit too early for me!

First the bread & olive oil

img_2199.jpg

I don't remember much about the bread so it must not have been anything special.

For appetizers we had decided that we would share the Fritto Misto - An assortment of just fried seasonal vegetables, fish and cheese to be shared at the table. Arancini, Mozzarella, calamari, melanzane, asparagi, zucchini, carciofi - $24.00

img_2202.jpg

This was really good. Very light crispy breading on everything. I really enjoyed the asparagus and artichoke. I don't eat calamari but DH and DS thought it was good. They like the rings, not the tentacles so it was perfect for them.

DS wanted to try the Tortellini in Brodo - Meat tortellini in broth - $8.00

img_2201.jpg

This was also very good. It made us wonder why I don't make it at home. The broth was very well seasoned. We are a family that always adds pepper and almost always adds salt to broth based soups and this didn't need either.

For lunch DS ordered Candele - Candle stick pasta, sausage Ragu, Polpettine, mozzarella, Ricotta - $20.00

img_2203.jpg

This was absolutely delicious. Everything you want in an italian meal in one bowl. The pasta had a nice bite to it. The sauce wasn't too sweet. Very cheesy. Really good. Way too heavy for me to consider at lunch though!

DH and I each chose to make our own pizza...

I chose ham, olives and mushroom

img_2204.jpg

DH chose anchovies (), sausage and peppers

img_2205.jpg

This was pretty tasty pizza. Thin, crispy crust. The only thing that really turned me off is that we asked for it well cooked. First we were told that it was impossible because of the ovens. That would have been fine. Then we were told that if we really wanted it, it could be done but there would be an extra charge....huh? That seemed weird to us. We were already charged extra for the toppings. (A minor thing but the plain pizza would have been $16, each topping a $1. The specialty pizzas were $18. My thought is that they could give you the first topping or even two for "free" with the dining plan and then charge for anything over that but that is probably being picky on my part). I felt that this restaurant was really very 'nickel and dimey' which took away from the meal for me.

For dessert, DH Torta Di Sarena - Applecake with almond Sorbetto - $8.00

img_2207.jpg

I didn't try it but he liked it.

DS said he didn't want dessert as he was stuffed. I knew I had to get the
Zeppole Di Catarina - Ricotta Cheese Fritters, served with whipped cream, chocolate sauce - $10.00

img_2206.jpg

Of course he ended up eating his share of mine! These were just delicious. I really loved the dark chocolate. Nothing was too sweet. I would go back just to get dessert.

Total cost for the items covered on the dining plan was $120.35. The Extras (wine and toppings) came to $16. I see that for some reason the sausage on DH's pizza is not on the receipt so we were not charged for that.

All in all I thought the food was very good. And yet, I am not sure I will rush back here. Something just rubbed me wrong.

After lunch we headed over to the Boardwalk to get the bus for DTD to do some shopping. After a bit, DS wanted some ice cream so we headed to Ghiaradellis where he got a Mint Bliss - One scoop of mint chip ice cream, one scoop of chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate hot fudge sauce, whipped cream and a square of Mint Bliss Intense Dark Chocolate. - $7.95

img_2209.jpg

We also got a couple of bottles of water. I can't find the receipt for this but it was OOP so it doesn't impact on the dining plan savings.

Next up - dinner at Artist Point. Our favorite meal ever at WDW ...

Your meal at VN has my stomach growling!

We just love it there..the food is amazing...DH gets a bit miffed as the servers completely ignore him but not me...we have been there 6 times and it has happened each time!

Dinner was at Artist Point. We ate there for the first time in 2009 and declared it our favorite meal ever at WDW and possibly anywhere else. It was just perfect ... the service, the wine, the food, all great. It was the one meal we most wanted to go back to.

We checked in a bit early and were given a pager so we went into the lounge. DH had a sangra, DS and coke and me a Magic Star cocktail

img_2215.jpg

And then we waited. And waited. And waited. After about 45 minutes I asked DH to check on our time. Apparantly they had paged us 10 minutes after we got there and the pager didn't go off. Seemed odd that they wouldn't check in the lounge but that's fine. We were seated at a nice corner table over looking the pool with the lake in the background. Perfect.

And that was the last perfect thing about this meal for me. :guilty:

First disappointment was that there were no sides listed on the menu. Last year the DxDDP included a side and we really enjoyed the mac & cheese and fries. I was willing to pay extra if they were no longer included in the DxDDP but they were gone. I asked the waitress and she said that all sides were removed from the menu the week before. She asked the Chef if there was anyway to make the mac & cheese and was told no. I more than understood that since it was no longer on the menu but was sooooo disappointed to see the sides removed all together.

On to the meal ... First came the bread

img_2218.jpg

(Sorry that some of these pics are dark ... with the flash they washed out).

The sea salted butter was very good on the nice crunchy bread.

DS knew he was having the Smokey Portobello Soup with Roasted Shiitakes and Chive Oil 9.00. He had declared this his favorite soup ever last year.

img_2221.jpg

It did not disappoint. Creamy, very lush tasty. A great soup.

DH tried the Artist Point “BLT” with Sweet Chili Lacquered Snake River Farm Pork Belly,Baby Heirloom Tomatoes, Vincotto, and Petit Greens 15.00 with the recommended Charles Smith “Kung Fu Girl” Riesling, Columbia Valley 11.00 wine pairing

img_2224.jpg

This was very good, especially with the wine. In retrospect, I wish I had ordered it. I didn't feel like wine after the cocktail so I just had a few sips of DH's to try it with the pork.

I had the A Selection of Artisanal Cheeses Smokey Blue Cheese, Reypenaer VSOP, and “The Drunken Goat” with Seasonal Garnishes and Walnut Toast 14.00

img_2223.jpg

I can't really explain why but this just didn't thrill me. The cheeses were very cold. I didn't really care for the garnishes. I really love cheese and had several cheese plates during the week. This was my least favorite.

For entrees, DH really wanted to try the Cedar Plank-roasted “Copper River” King Salmon with Confit Artichokes, Petit Zucchini, Baby Carrots, and Bacon-Egg Vinaigrette 48.00 again with the recommended wine pairing of Soléna Grand Cuvée Pinot Noir, Willamette 14.00

(Side note, when the waitress realized I had sampled DH's first wine, she poured just a bit in my glass so he wouldn't have the share the second glass. I thought that was a great example of that extra service that Disney is known for)

img_2227.jpg

He really enjoyed it. I am not a salmon eater but did have a bite and thought it was good. I didn't want more than that one bite though.

DS really was looking forward to trying the Char-grilled Buffalo Striploin Steak with Marble Potatoes, Garden Vegetables, and Shiraz Gastrique 43.00

img_2226.jpg

He really enjoyed it. I had a bite and it was pretty good. Not gamey like I thought it might be. And very lean.

I had a pork dish that I cannot find on any of the menu sites including Disney's ... I was with a creamy polenta, figs and a crispy piece of pancetta.

img_2225.jpg

I really like pork and eat it out often. I knew I would be having the filet at Le Cellier and red meat at Yachtsman so I wanted to try something else. Very disappointing. I love fig anything so I thought this would be perfect for me. I didn't think the flavors came together well. I thought the pork had an odd texture to it. I really did not care for this meal at all. The crispy ham was the best part.

On to dessert - First up I had tea

img_2230.jpg

Really loved the pressed pot. I had wanted to try the Jasmine Pearl but they were out so I had Imperial Earl Grey - Strong enough for an Earl but refined enough for his Lady, this connoisseur-grade Earl Grey blends Ceylon India and China estate teas with just a hint of Bergamot. I really enjoy Earl Grey tea and this was nice.

For desserts DS had Chocolate Indulgence . . . Valhrona Chocolate Ganache with Salted Chocolate Ice Cream, Amarena Cherries, and Dark Chocolate Crumble 11.00

img_2231.jpg

He loved this. The salted chocolate ice cream was very good.

I had the Baked Peach Upside-Down Cake with Sweet-and-Sour
Caramel Sauce and Roasted Peach Ice Cream 10.00

img_2233.jpg

Again I was disappointed. It was really a very dry cake. I expected it to be moist. The ice cream was very good.

DH had Strawberries and Cream . . . Strawberry Consommé with Grand Marnier, Vanilla Panna Cotta, and Buttered Pound Cake 10.00

img_2232.jpg

He really enjoyed it, very fresh tasting.

So DS and DH still love Artist Point. Me, not so much. They said that I made the wrong choices which is probably true. Our trip next year will be a bit shorter and I don't know if we will return. It was last for me out of the signatures we tried this year. 2nd for DS and 4th for DH. So we will see.

Total on the dining plan was $206.90. Extra for DH's wine was $26.63.

The restaurant is beautiful and service was A+ but I was very let down by the food this time ... although I did enjoy the tastes I had of DH & DS meals. And they still thought it was wonderful. So maybe they are right and I just picked the wrong food for my mood that day.

Your meal at VN has my stomach growling!

We just love it there..the food is amazing...DH gets a bit miffed as the servers completely ignore him but not me...we have been there 6 times and it has happened each time!

Your reviews are what made me definitely eat here! :goodvibes

DH and DS definitely weren't ignored. We were all smothered. And like I said, almost "SNL actor" like. "oooh, you will have sweet dreams about that dessert after you return home" very heavily accented kind of stuff. It was just way over the top for me. But yes, the food was very, very good.

Enjoyed reading your review of VN and Artist Point. VN is new to us so we are looking forward to it. We had a meal Artist Point last year and enjoyed it... especially berry cobbler!

Oh poor AP...that has been on and off my Oct list more times than I can count...if we did go I would order exactly what you had and if you were disappointed with it then I would be too.

I have the Wave booked for our last supper but I am toying with AP, Bluezoo or Rose & Crown....what would you do?

Definitely subscribing! So sorry AP was disappointing for you this trip-- it was our absolute favorite Disney meal of all time for us this year (like you guys in 2009). Loved it.
We were also in DHS on 8/26 :goodvibes and went also straight to TSMM and then to Writer's Stop!

I am so glad you posted a review of the Garden Grove. I am one of the curious ones on the Garden Grove. Well,@ least I know I'm not missing much, but your character pics are as cute as can be!

That chili dog from POP was delicious!! [makes my belly rumble] I don't get how I'm so not a "meat lover" but :lovestruc loved this dog! :lmao::lmao: I'll be there for a couple days of our trip & this just reminded me what I'll get. Yum!:thumbsup2

So sorry that AP didn't do it for you this time. My mom liked the cheese plate (the cheeses weren't cold), but I also disliked the peach upside down cake when I tried it. At AP, I've learned to almost always go with the berry cobbler or berry mousse for dessert.

And it's interesting to hear that the sides were removed - I have a feeling that it was because of free dining. I've noticed that a few menus remove their more expensive options or add-ons right before free dining begins (such as Brown Derby, which removes the more expensive filet every time and just leaves the smaller portion).

If you had asked me before this trip I would have 100% said AP. DH and DS would still say AP. I have never been to Bluezoo so I can't comment on that. From my review you know I am partial to Rose & Crown.

But on our last night I always like to end up in the Magic Kingdom. DS and I had a great meal at The Wave the only time I have eaten there. So out of your choices, for me I would have an early-ish dinner at The Wave and finish the night in the MK! ;) But if you don't care to do that or would rather finish your trip in EPCOT, I don't think you can go wrong with Rose & Crown.

How is that for a wishy washy answer!

Could be although all of the other signatures still had them. AP was the only one that we noticed they were removed. They don't have to include them in the dining plan but should still have them available for those that want to pay extra. Just my humble opinion. :)

We were a bit later than I wanted to me so we were in quite a line at TSMM! But it was ok because it was our first day and we were happy to be there!

Yeah, I am bummed about AP. That is my dilemna next year ... do I try it again because I was really the only one disappointed this year or do I go some place else. Narcoossees is the only signature we haven't tried. Didn't get to Citricos this year and loved that in '09 as well. Good thing I have 345days to decide! :thumbsup2

Yeah definitely thumbs down for Garden Grove although Goofy was pretty fun. And now I am going to probably have to make chili dogs for dinner! :lmao:

That's the thing - for some reason, AP includes sides on the DDP, but the other signatures don't. I think that's why AP takes them off the menu when it becomes free dining time - they don't want to give out sides to everyone. You're right, though - they could just copy the other signatures that offer sides (Yachtsman, Flying Fish, Le Cellier dinner), and leave them off the DDP, but keep them on the menu.

I am still drooling over the appetizer at Via Naipoli!! That looks amazing, and I would just have that and be totally content.

Hi! So glad I caught this, as I think I've followed all of your reviews. We had tried VN back in February and came away pretty unimpressed. But I was convinced we had just an off night and had ordered wrong, so went back this past trip....and we went back TWICE! We loved it! As for the waiters, most of them didn't speak English all that well.

Interesting about Tony's...I'm thinking about making an ADR there for February, as I love Lady and the Tramp and its the only thing in all of WDW that is themed from that movie. :confused3 I'm not expecting much... as long as it as as good as Olive Garden, I'd be happy. My son loves spaghetti, that would be a plus.

And glad to hear that Rose and Crown was good. We're staying at the BC in February and I've been pressed to figure out where to eat in WS. We tried Nine Dragons on our past trip and it was terrible. We love VN, but I wanted another place, as well. Rose and Crown sounds like a good option! I also love English/Irish food and the bangers and mash are right up my alley! :thumbsup2

We are up to Monday, August 29th. We had planned on breakfast at Kona, the afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian and dinner at La Hacienda. I decided the day before that the tea was just not going to happen and cancelled.

Kona Café was DS’s #1 request for Tonga Toast! We had a 9:30 ADR and were seated right away. Our waiter David was very efficient.

DH & DS shared the pressed pot while I had iced tea. We all had the amazing Lilikoi Juice - Orange, passion fruit and guava blend. - $4.19

img_2234.jpg

I wasn’t feeling all that great and really wanted a high protein breakfast so I had the
Ham and Cheese Omelet - Served with home fried potatoes, and a biscuit...with shrimp $10.99 - $10.49

img_2235.jpg

This was good … a run of the mill omelet. Lots of ham which was nice.

DH had The Samoan - Poached eggs with Hollandaise served over smoked pulled pork hash - $9.99

img_2237.jpg

Oh my gosh, this was amazing! This is what I had planned to get until I woke up feeling ‘blech’. But I had a bite and everything went so well together. Wasn’t sure how the pork hash would work in an eggs benedict type dish and found it to be just delicious.

Of course, DS had Tonga Toast - Banana-stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar with your choice of ham, bacon or sausage. - $10.99

img_2236.jpg

DS was not disappointed and loved every bite of this. It is a bit sweet for me but I do enjoy a bite or two.

Total for breakfast was $53.28 with nothing OOP.

Since we cancelled the tea, we were jonesing for something around lunch time. We were in the MK and stopped at Columbia Harbor House.

We paid OOP here for a New England Clam Chowder for DS and an Anchors Aweigh Sandwich - White tuna with lettuce and tomato served on a toasted multi-grain bread. Served with chips or carrots. - $8.99 for DH and I. We also got a bottle of water and large iced tea.

img_2238.jpg

Total OOP was $21.20. DS enjoyed the chowder and I loved the sandwich. DH wasn’t all that hungry so he only had a few bites. All white tuna, not too much mayo. A very good, classic tuna sandwich.

Before we left the MK we knew we had to get our favorite treat because later in the week:

img_2497.jpg

DS and I usually get the corn dog nuggets for the night time parade but we had to make due with them for an afternoon snack:

img_2240.jpg

These were much sweeter than we remembered with more hot dog to corn bread ratio. We didn’t enjoy them nearly as much as in past years.
