Mom & Son Going Back! 10 days DxDDP! Complete 10/2 - LTT, GG & Cost Totals

I couldn't believe how good they were. I just really hope they stay on the menu. Going in May, and really want them again.

Glad to hear about the penne. I haven't been to Mama's since 07, but it's on this trip's list. I was going to get the chicken parm again, but really like penne vodka. I think I'll go that way!

We have never tried the chicken parm ... just felt it was too heavy for lunch. But DS really enjoyed the pasta!

Thank you for sharing your reviews with us!! I've never tried the writer's shop for snacks but will have too on our next vacation to the world.

I never had either but after seeing that carrot cake cookie here in The Dis, I had to scope it out. It will be a must do every trip!

Great start. Thanks for posting. The strawberry muffin looks delish. I love chocolate but for some reason a chocolate chocolate chip muffin is too much chocolate for me ;) (could i use the word chocolate any more) looking forward to more.

Yeah, I would want that choc choc chip muffin more for a dinner. I did try a bite and it was really good!

Did your DH like the strawberry muffin? I went in that place this trip just to get the carrot cake cookie, but the strawberry muffin sidetracked me momentarily :rotfl: I wanted to go back for one, but never did, so I was wondering if it was worth it for next trip.

Yes, it was delicious. Very moist and strawberry-y! ;)

Yeah, the clams were really pretty great!

Thanks all for reading. Next installment up after work today!

I actually like Mama Melrose. We haven't had a bad meal there yet. I was sad to cancel our F! Pk MM for coming trip. DS decided that he doesn't want to see F! this trip (we saw it every single trip).

Those Mushroom Flatbread looks good! :thumbsup2

Great updates :thumbsup2

Glad you enjoyed Mama Melrose's - it tends to get mixed reviews but I really liked it

Got to work a bit early this morning so I am trying to sneak in the next update!

We left DHS and took the boat to EPCOT. Since we did not have dessert at Mama Melrose’s our first stop was the bakery in France

img_2031.jpg

DH and I shared the strawberry tart while DS ad the almond triangle. The tart was tasty and hit the spot for something sweet. DS declared the almond triangle the best pastry ever.

We walked a bit and DS wanted to try something in Morrocco ..

img_2035.jpg

He had the expresso gelato. I don’t drink coffee so this had no appeal to me, but he enjoyed it.

I had my eye on

For a

img_2037.jpg

Oh my! This was a delicious little snack. Certainly not worth the $4 or whatever to pay for it but well worth a snack credit! Very yummy!

We all wanted something cool to drink so we headed to China for a mango green tea slushie

img_2039.jpg

This was Ok, a bit sweet for me. DH drank most of it. DS did not care for it at all.

Dinner was at Rose and Crown. We had Christmas Day lunch here in 2009 after arriving that morning on an early flight. It was such a great meal, I had to go back. We weren’t sure if it was the meal or that fact that we had arrived on Christmas Day that made it so good in ’09. Turns out it was the meal!

We checked in a bit before our reservation time and were seated maybe 10-15 after. Ok by me as I was listening to Off Kilter! We were seated outside on the patio in the corner which was just perfect. Our waiter Stuart was just Ok … very friendly but a bit slow to refill drinks and respond to requests.

I am pretty sure DH got a beer here but I can’t find a pic? DS and I had iced teas.

DH and I started with Appetizer Trio to Share - With scotch egg, potato Leek soup, and Beef Pasty - $15.99

img_2041.jpg

The soup and scotch egg were perfect! The soup was creamy and rich, very good. Scotch eggs are a treat that I do not allow myself often so this was very nice. The pasty didn’t have much flavor.

DS remembered how much he loved the Scotch Egg - Golden fried hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat with mustard sauce - $8.99 last year and wanted that as his starter

img_2042.jpg

He again loved every bit. Especially the sauce. We would have licked the plate if that was allowed!

For the meal I had Bangers and Mash - Traditional English sausages served with cabbage, mashed potatoes, and gravy. - $14.99

img_2046.jpg

This is one of my favorite meals at WDW. We do not have any English or Irish restaurants near us so this is a real treat for me. And it did not disappoint.

DS had Fish and Chips - Batter-fried fresh Cod served with English chips - $15.99

img_2044.jpg

He discovered that he likes Fish & Chips on our Christmas trip and was really looking forward to these. He was somewhat disappointed. Said the fish was not as good as he remembered. Not sure if the fish has changed?

DH had Grilled sirloin and fried fish - With yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables and red wine sauce

img_2043.jpg

This was also quite tasty although DH didn’t love the stilton cheese on the steak. I thought the steak was pretty good. Well seasoned, not real fatty.

We all shared a side of Bubble and Squeak - . - $4.99

img_2045.jpg

This was just Ok. I am used to more cabbage than was in this dish. It was mostly potatos and not the nice creamy potatos served under the Bangers. They were thicker, almost paste like.

We were all full but DS and I had to have the Sticky Toffee Pudding – $5.49

img_2048.jpg

This was just as good as we remembered from last year! We were glad we shared it as it was rich but we also wanted more! That would have stuffed us to the gills though.

DH who doesn’t really eat chocolate decided to try Chocolate Scotch Cake - Chocolate filling and Scotch Ganache - $5.99

img_2049.jpg

This was a very fudgy rich chocolate cake. He enjoyed it but only ate about half. I was surprised he got it at all but he said he felt like chocolate.

Dining plan portion of the meal would have cost $106.83. The extras (beer and bubble & squeak) came to $13.84.

We really enjoyed this meal and have decided that R&C is a must do every trip for us. We may do lunch next year. Love sitting outside by the water, love the food. It is an all around win/win for us.

Up next, Disney Day 3 … MK all day! Tony’s and ‘Ohana!

Yeah, I don't remember what our issue was in 2005. Really glad we went back. We enjoyed our meal very much.

Great review of Rose and Crown. In the 20+ years of Disney vacations, I never ate at Rose and Crown until this year. It was a great meal and now it is also on my must do list for my next trip. Too bad you didn't try the cheese plate. It was one of the best I had all week. Thanks for the great reviews.

We actually did try that for our 2009 meal. And I agree, it was very good. Hard to top the Scotch Egg for me though ... I am drooling thinking about it now!

I've got to try Rose and Crown sometime. I've never eaten there after 10+ trips to WDW. I keep reading positive reviews so it must be good.

I loved your review on Rose and Crown. Those scotch eggs looks amazing and of course they are fat free :lmao:

I am really kicking myself for cancelling R&C...your meals look wonderful. Maybe I can cancel The Wave and add it back in?

Did you notice if the Joy of Tea stand has the Peach Snap? Rumor was they were no longer serving it

The gelato creations must be new, and a nice steep price tag to go with it but the combos sound to delish to pass up

Definitely try it! It is a must do for us.

Isn't everything fat free at Disney? :upsidedow

I really enjoyed The Wave but I would go to R&C if those were my two choices. BUt then again, I really love that type of food and cannot get it here at home.

DH got the mango drink at the tea stand so I didn't even look.

As for the gelato, I don't think I even looked at the price until you just said something! Vacation mode ... who looks at prices!

Oh, I love Rose & Crown! So glad you enjoyed your meal there as well.

For the last 6 trips or so, DH and I have had a very early morning flight, and R&C has been our arrival day lunch, so it has a special place for us - kicking off our WDW vacation! Just 26 days until our lunch there!

We've never tried the Rose & Crown

I guess we always think it's a little odd to travel from England and head straight for an English pub

Glad you enjoyed your meal there :goodvibes

That is what we did Christmas morning 2009 so I think that is why it holds a special place for us as well!

Yeah, can't say that I blame you. I have never eaten anything from the American Pavillion either!

When the plans were made for Saturday, 8/27, it was assuming that my sister and her family (including my 5 year old nephew) were going to come up to Orlando for the day. DNep hasn't been to WDW yet even though they are only 3 hours away. Money has been very tight for them the past few years. Anyhow, about a month or so before the trip, she decided they really could not go. We had a breakfast at Crystal Palace that I cancelled as I knew I couldn't really move our 'Ohana dinner later.

So once we got to the MK, our first stop had to be the Main Street Bakery.

img_2071.jpg

DS had a chocoloate croissant and DH & I split an everything bagel. Both were fine. Just needed something in our stomach. Also got an OJ and I am pretty sure a water. We used snack credits but I did not get the total.

Lunch was at Tony's. This has been a very mixed meal for us. We had a couple of decent meals over the years but then in 2008 it was one of the worst meals of the trip. Thinking that it would be easier to stay in the MK with my nephew, I made a reservation there knowing he eats spaghetti. Once I decided to do that, I became wedded to the idea of going back so I didn't change it.

We checked in a few minutes early and were seated right away. Bethany, our server, was very good. Friendly, kept our glasses filled. Very good service overall.

To start DH and I shared Flavors of Italy Antipasto - A selection of Italian Favorites featuing Olives, Sliced Deli Meats, Roasted Garlic, and Artichokes - $13.99

img_2094.jpg

We also wanted to share as a family the Zucchini Fries - Breaded ,seasoned with a creamy sun dried tomato dressing for dipping - $7.99

img_2095.jpg

DS felt like having Minestrone - Made with orzo pasta. - $5.49 again so we paid out of pocket for it ...

img_2096.jpg

All of the appetizers were quite good, especially the zucchini fries. They were nice and crispy and the dipping sauce really good.

For our entrees, DH had Tony's Flatbread - Smoked chicken, caramelized onions, fontina cheese, spinach, and red pepper sauce. - $12.99

img_2097.jpg

I had the Panini of the Day - Panini of the day. - $13.49 which was pastrami and provolone

img_2099.jpg

DS wanted Chicken Caesar Salad - Romaine lettuce with grilled chicken tossed in Tony's Caesar dressing

img_2098.jpg

We really shared all 3 entrees and all were quite tasty. The flatbread was just a bit spicy. The salad lettuce was crisp and cold. The panini was good even though not like a traditional panini that I am used to. The flavors in it worked well.

We did have dessert ...

For DH, the Lemon Walnut Layer Cake - Layered vanilla cake filled with lemon curd. - $5.49

img_2102.jpg

For me, the Pistachio Creme Brulee - Pistachio Creme Brulee - $5.99

img_2101.jpg

And for DS the Tiramisu - Espresso soaded Lady Fingers, whipped mascarpone and dark chocolate shavings. - $6.49

img_2100.jpg

All were quite tasty, especially the creme brulee. Nice crunchy topping and creamy inside.

All in all we enjoyed our meal. Is it a must do each trip? Probably not because there are other places around the MK that we want to try for lunch (The Wave being one). But I am glad we went back to erase the negative memory from our previous trip.

We, again all had iced teas. Dining plan total came to $92.65. The extra soup was $6.34.

Dinner was at 'Ohana. DH's request but I had also thought it would be a good choice for my sister's family so I booked it the night they were supposed to be with us.

We checked in about 5:45 for our 6:10 reservation. DH and I had a couple of drinks while waiting -

img_2136.jpg

I apologize but I do not remember what they were and cannot find the receipt!

We were seated abotu 6:30 with the perfect table if we had been there later

img_2140.jpg

(Obviously a zoomed view but perfect view of the Castle)

First up the yummy pineapple bread and salad

img_2137.jpg

The dipping sauces -

img_2141.jpg

The potstickers and wings ... I could make a meal of just the potstickers!

img_2142.jpg

The broccoli and noodles ...

img_2143.jpg

And of course the meat!

img_2146.jpg

img_2144.jpg

I was disappointed to read that the turkey changed to chicken and was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved the chicken! I also enjoyed the pork. None of us really loved the beef. All of our pieces were a bit tough. DH thought thought the pork was dry but DS and I prefer our pork that way especially with the sauces for dipping!

We were completely stuffed but of course still had to have dessert!

img_2149.jpg

   Oh how we love the bread pudding. I heard that something had changed but don't remember what and we still loved it just as much!

Total would have been $105.41. All in all a really good meal. DS says it is a must do next trip. DH says he would go either way. I will see what else may sound interesting but really think I agree with DS!

After dinner we headed back to the MK for the Main Street Electrical Parade

img_2186.jpg

This was the first parade I ever say in Disney so it holds very fond memories for me. I do love Spectro but was really glad we got to see this parade again. I don't know that I can really pick a favorite between the two. Maybe they can just alternate nights in the future! :upsidedow

I just did my review of Ohana as well! I see that we both loved the potstickers and the bread pudding. That bread pudding was the best. I'm going back in January when I'm taking my daughter on a Disney cruise and we're spending 2 days at WDW afterwards. I hadn't originally made an ADR for Ohana but I cancelled Sci Fi and made one for Ohana. I can't wait!

Just read your review! I could seriously just eat the potstickers & broccoli with the bread pudding for dessert. I am a pretty big meat eater but just really love the sides there. This one is still up in the air for us as to whether we return next year but if I were a betting gal, I would say yes!

YUM!!! 'Ohana looks AMAZING! We're eating there this weekend and I am definitely looking forward to it

Great reviews! I'm looking forward to more :goodvibes
