Thank you all for reading. Hope to get the first Disney Day review up later tonight or tomorrow.

The train was really fun. Not sure if I would want to do it both ways but going down was nice. And you can't beat free! :upsidedow

Subbing! Love reading about your planning, can't wait to see the reviews.

Ok so August 25th we were up bright and early at my sisters to take Amtrak from Deerfield Beach to Kissimmee. Hurricane Irene made the week very anxious for us as it was first projected to slam Florida. DSis had a home severely damaged in a past hurricane so we were worried about them. Then as it moved off coast and we knew they would be safe, we worried whether we would get to Orlando and if DH would be able to fly down. Course now seeing all of the flooding and devastation in the Northeast (where we live!) I feel bad that I was worried about a vacation!

Anyway despite the rain bands coming thru Amtrak was on time and we made it. They ended up cancelling all trains Friday - Sunday!

After checking in at POP and finding out that our room wasn't ready, DS and I headed to DTD. We were starving! No breakfast in our haste to get to the train. We each had a candy bar while waiting. We had planned to eat at T-Rex but decided we didn't want to be inside that long we we stopped at Earl of Sandwich. Line was insane and as I said we were starving. Over to Wolfgang Puck's Express! Now I have to say that I have always had the dining plan so I never look at prices. We were OOP this day and what a sticker shock for me!

Anyway, we started with an iced tea for me and a diet coke for DS.

DS really wanted the Adult Mac & Cheese -

Four Cheese Macaroni - A creamy blend of four cheeses (mozzarella, cheddar, fontina and gorgonzola) baked with macaroni. - $9.95

img_1977.jpg

I had a pepperoni pizza although the only descriptions I am finding online are pepperoni and mushroom. I wish that was an option but alas no mushrooms!

img_1978.jpg

We were both very happy with our choices! Mac & Cheese was creamy & the pasta not over cooked. And my pizza was just delicious. Nice and spicy, crispy crust. A very good first Disney meal!

Total OOP was $30.57.

After walking thru DTD thrilled to be back in WDW, we went to BabyCakes to try the cupcakes.

I had a red velvet, DS a chocolate brownie.

img_1986.jpg

I have to say that for us they did not live up to the hype. Although moist and tasty, they were small. At a cost OOP of $7.45, they just didn't seem worth it.

Dinner for DS and I (DH was in the air at this point ... the last flight that night that left JFK for MCO!) was new for us ... Garden Grove at the Swan. I liked the idea of seeing Pluto and Goofy the first night plus I had read decent reviews and we had a coupon from restaurants.com!

I have to say that this was the most disappointing meal of our trip. We were seated right away in a nearly empty restaurant. DS was positioned so the son was directly in his face.

img_1988.jpg

We were at a two top table and there weren't many in the restaurant but as I said there was also no one there. We were not allowed to move. I wanted to talk to a manager but DS said no. He embarrasses easy so I let it go. Our waiter, Simo, seemed that he wanted to be anywhere else and was slow to clear plates and refresh drinks.

The food was Ok ... decent but nothing great. A few buffet pics -

img_1991.jpg

img_1992.jpg

img_1993.jpg

My first plate ... italian meats, some hummus and pita. I did not take DS's plate as it was similar.

img_1995.jpg

We were then served salad at the table. This was actually really good.

img_1996.jpg

Then this guy came by ...

img_1998.jpg

My 2nd plate - cooked to order pasta (mushy but good flavor), meatball (just nasty), beef bourginon (pretty tasty) and roasted potatos (actually quite good)

img_2002.jpg

Next came Goofy who was really fun ... very interactive with the tables, kids or adults.

img_2005.jpg

I am sorry to say that I do not remember what the desserts were but I really didn't enjoy any of them ...

img_2007.jpg

Total after taking off the coupon was $62.98 ($53.08 for the food, $11.34 automatic tip because of using the coupon).

I am glad we went as I was very curious but it is a one and done for us. We will not go back.

DS finally arrived at POP 9, 9:30. He stopped by the food court and got a chili cheese dog and water ...

img_2009.jpg

This was actually quite tasty! Cost OOP $11.23

So our day 1 cost OOP was $112.23 (would have been $137.23 without the coupon). I won't be considering this in the totals at the end but just wanted to give you the info.

Up next, our first full day in Disney ... Mama Melroses for lunch and Rose & Crown for dinner! We were supposed to do the dessert party but when I thought that Irene was going to go right thru Florida I changed it to our last night. That actually ended up working out better in the end.

I love WPE food! I hope to make several trips there in two weeks.

Keep the reviews coming please~!

I have yet to read a postive review of the cupcakes from Babycakes....we have stopped in there so many times with the intention of trying them but at $3.75 a pop and they are so tiny I cannot justify it.

What is up with GG?? That is nuts, they should have let you change tables without a problem and the food doesnt look that good either.

Hope the rest of your meals are much better

Everything was much better! Seriously we didn't have another bad meal. We were very lucky this trip. One meal was just as good as the next!

YaY!!! I am so glad you're home--I'm sure you're not. Garden Grill needs to take a chill pill! What the heck?

Did the hot dog have the nasty whole wheat, fall apart bun??? Ick....

Well, looking forward to hearing ALL of the good stuff. We leave for our mom and son trip in 12 days!!!!:cool1:

By the time DH actually got to the room and ate the hot dog the bun was semi soggy so I am not really sure! It didn't fall apart though.

Yay for your trip! Can't wait to hear about it!

So Friday, 8/26 was our first full day as a family. We have had a room only in the past and the next day had to go to the front desk to re-check in. This year, they brought our new park tickets to our room! :thumbsup2 I loved this extra bit of service.

Off we headed to Hollywood Studios. DS wanted to try the new Star Wars as soon as possible. But first we had to go Toy Story Mania! Then we needed a snack so off to Writer's Stop -

DS had a chocolate chocolate chip muffin

img_2017.jpg

DH had a strawberry muffin

img_2018.jpg

And I finally got to try a carrot cake cookie!

img_2019.jpg

I loved it! Very moist, delicious filling. Way to big for one person but DH wouldn't share as he really wanted the muffin. We also got 3 bottles of water. Used 6 snack credits but the cost would have been $18.07.

Lunch was at Mama Melrose's. We ate here in 2004 and 2005 and for some reason just haven't gone back. We vaguely remember a bad experience in
'05 but regardless felt it was time to go back.

We checked in right as the restaurant opened and waited just a few minutes to be seated. Our waittress, Katie, was very good. Attentive, refilled drinks often and was generally very pleasant.

We started with warm, crusty rolls and olive oil

img_2020.jpg

DS started with the Vegetarian Minestrone - Made with Ditalini Pasta. - $5.49

img_2022.jpg

He ate every last drop so he must have enjoyed it. I didn't try it.

DH had Clams Oreganatta - oak fried Clams cooked in oregano butter and italian sausage over toasted foccacia - $10.99

img_2026.jpg

And I had Mozzarella and Tomatoes - Served with marinated sweet onions, balsamic drizzle, extra virgin olive oil, and fresh sweet basil. - $7.99

img_2024.jpg

DH and I really shared our two choices, both of which were delicious. Tomatos were perfect, mozzarella nice and soft but the clams ... oh my were they good! I am not a huge seafood person so if the clams were too big I would not have liked them. But these were tiny with lots of bits of sausage in the broth. Very, very good.

For our entrees,

DS had Penne alla Vodka - with Pancetta and Sweet Onion finished with Tomato-Basil Sauce, Cream, Vodka, and Pecorino Romano $16.99

img_2027.jpg

He really enjoyed this. I tried a few bites and agreed it was very good. The pasta was the perfect al dente, sauce just enough. Good amount of pancetta bits. A very good penne ala vodka.

DH had Piccata di Pesca - fresh fish sauteed in a white wine lemon butter sauce with caperberries, spinach, and whole grain pasta $20.99

img_2030.jpg

The fish of the day was mahi mahi. I had never tried that fish before and thought it was Ok. Nice mild fish. The sauce was delicious on the spaghetti.

I chose Wild Mushroom Flatbread - with caprino pesto, wild mushrooms and asiago cheese, arugala as a garnish

img_2028.jpg

This was tasty but not as good as DS's pasta. I didn't want a heavy pasta meal so I chose the flatbread. I do love mushrooms. Crust was crispy ... just enough cheese. It was a fine flatbread ... just not as tasty as DS's pasta.

We all had iced tea, no dessert. Nothing on the menu really thrilled us and we knew we were heading to EPCOT for some snacks before our dinner. Total cost would have been $87.88.

Glad to hear about the penne. I haven't been to Mama's since 07, but it's on this trip's list. I was going to get the chicken parm again, but really like penne vodka. I think I'll go that way!

Thank you for sharing your reviews with us!! I've never tried the writer's shop for snacks but will have too on our next vacation to the world.

Great start. Thanks for posting. The strawberry muffin looks delish. I love chocolate but for some reason a chocolate chocolate chip muffin is too much chocolate for me ;) (could i use the word chocolate any more) looking forward to more.

Did your DH like the strawberry muffin? I went in that place this trip just to get the carrot cake cookie, but the strawberry muffin sidetracked me momentarily :rotfl: I wanted to go back for one, but never did, so I was wondering if it was worth it for next trip.
