Mom & Son Eat the World Part 2 - Updated 1/20 Breakfast at POP & Cost Summary

I love that snapper at Flying Fish. I'm thinking about trying the steak there next trip though. I'm sorry it seemed to dissapoint you a bit.

You snuck in while I was replying! :goodvibes The snapper was really good. DH did enjoy his steak. I think part of it was so much delicious food in such a short time. Something had to be "not the best", ya know?

great reviews once again, shame about FF though !!

i have to say im not a fan of Rosa Regale, too much hype for me :rotfl2:

Fantastic reviews again!:thumbsup2 Your pictures really make me salivate!

Sorry you weren't feeling the love for the FF. I totally understand how you feel - sometimes it just gets you like that when you aren't in the mood.

We enjoyed the FF last time we were in WDW - but it wasn't quite up to AP or CG standards for us. I did love that char crusted strip steak though, and seeing your photo brought back happy memories for us!:)

Ok, I wasn't a fan either. Like the peach bellinis much better. But as a true Diser, I had to try it once.

Could you please count me in as another Diser, who did not like it. Like ... NOT like it at all!
We tried it in February last year and we both thought that was the worst drink we had had all week, and we had a lot! :lmao:

Glad I am not alone! I didn't hate it that much, but it sure wasn't my "cup of tea"! But I am glad I tried it ... once!

After reading the rave reviews here I urged Tom to buy a whole bottle to celebrate at our resort room ;)! It was super expensive and we both only had a little of it (chilled and all) and the rest went down the drain.
Well, we tried it and that's it. Another item I can tick off my list! :)

So we are up to DHS day, I think Tuesday during our trip.

After doing the TSM run, riding it with a 30 minute wait and grabbing fastpasses, we went back to Starring Rolls for these -

img_0703.jpg

Breakfast of champions! :rotfl: Butterfinger Cupcake, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake and a Marble Cupcake. We also got an OJ and two coffees. We didn't come close to finishing these but enjoyed them all. I think because it was breakfast, the Marble Cupcake appealed the most to me. We used snack credits for these and again, I couldn't see the total before the register zeroed out.

Lunch was a Sci Fi. I was very happy that they weren't forcing us to eat from the dinner menu! Would probably have walked away if we had to. As it was, they were completely booked for the day and a senior citizen "gentleman" was giving the woman at the podium such a hard time. He was completely out of line. We felt bad for her. What do people expect when they come the busiest week of the year with no reservations? :confused3 And these were two couples that had definitely been to WDW before. I would have felt bad for first-timers that just didn't do their research. Anyhow, we were fairly quickly seated -

img_0709.jpg

I started with another Magic Star Cocktail (DH has a beer, DS just wanted water). Just had to have the glowy cube in the dark!

img_0712.jpg

For appetizers, DS and I shared Spinach and Artichoke Dip for Two - A blend of Monterey Jack, swiss, and asiago with spinach, artichokes, and corn tortilla chips and the Crispy Onion Rings - A generous portion of battered onion rings.

img_0714.jpg

img_0716.jpg

I apologize for the picture quality on these. Both were really good.

DH had Seven Bean Beef Chili - with shredded cheddar, pico de gallo, and tortilla strips

img_0717.jpg

It was a bit sweeter than we like our chili but not so much so that he didn't enjoy it. It was definitely tasty.

For entrees, DS had The Reuben - Corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing on marble rye bread, served with a pickle spear and french fries

img_0719.jpg

DH the Smoked St. Louis-style Ribs - Basted with barbecue sauce served with cole slaw and baked beans

img_0721.jpg

And I had Angus Chuck Burger - Flame-broiled beef patty topped with cheddar cheese, sauteed onions, mushrooms and crispy bacon. Served with a choice of cucumber-melon salad or french fries ( I had fries)

img_0720.jpg

Everything was very good! We were stuffed and didn't want dessert. Our server, Marsha, offered us bottled water to take with us in lieu of dessert which I thought was really nice. DH wanted a coffee to go as well. She gave us 4 bottled waters and DH's coffee.

Lunch including the beer & cocktail came to $101.36. DH's beer was $6.75 and my drink was $10.25.

All in all a very nice lunch!

Ok so dinner today was a challenge for me right from the 180 day mark. I booked the Yachtsman because of DH's desire for a 'good steak'. Then I read a bunch of so-so reviews here and really didn't want to go there. Tried for months to change it to Cali Grille (I know, wishful thinking) or even Citricos because I would have then changed our last nights dinner. Nothing.

A few days before the trip I was able to get a 9:05pm reservation at Brown Derby so I cancelled the Yachtsman. We planned to see the Osborne Lights anyhow so the late dinner didn't seem to be an issue.

Ok, well then reality set in. We were done at the lights before 7 and there was just no way we could stick around - we were tired and it was COLD! I cancelled - then called dining reservations at DS's request to try to get back to Artist Point. They only had a 9:30pm available. No way.

So we ended up at the POP food court!

DS and I got a small pepperoni pizza, Chicken Penne Alfredo and
Parmesan Crusted Chicken along with a chocolate chip cookie and two pieces of Tie-dyed Cheesecake. We all had bottled water.

img_0763.jpg

DH had a double cheeseburger and a piece of Tie-Dyed Cheesecake.

img_0764.jpg

Ok so obviously these meals had to be evaluated on their own and not against the gourmet food we have been eating. And you know what? Everything was very good. I think we needed a break from the big meals and these fit the bill perfectly. Total came to $57.84. We brought the cheesecakes back to the room & picked on those later in the week. We definitely needed the early night knowing we were going to be very late in the MK the next night and EPCOT the night after that.

Just discovered you trip report and I'm really enjoying it! :goodvibes Noticed (from your trip ticker) that you'll be at DL before us this summer, so I'm hoping you'll do a DL trip report, too!

ooooh, I would love to! Is that allowed here? If so, you can count on it! :goodvibes

Just caught up on a bunch of reviews!! I know what you mean about the Pop food court-- if DBF and I ever do the DxDDP, I wouldn't hesitate to have a CS meal. You need the balance!
Sorry FF wasn't up to par. It seems like overall you guys had pretty good luck, though, so I guess one so-so meal isn't bad! :)

Thanks so much for the detailed report. We've yet to try Sci-Fi as it really does get mixed reviews but those ribs looked oh so scrumptous. Maybe we will give it a try for lunch.

Oh my word - how good to those cupcakes look :cool1:
By the way, what is in a Magic Star Cocktail - they look so cute :)

We had very good luck. I would even say that FF was better than so-so so we really cannot complain. I know many people say that CS is a waste of credits on the DxDDP but it definitely worked for us!

Yay! You can post a trip report in the Disneyland section. Have you seen it?

Just started checking out the DL boards... cool! I am sure I will get more familiar as the months go on!

Definitely try it for lunch. I didn't try DH's ribs but he said they were good. The burgers are very good!

Just read through all of your reviews, love them! I MUST get that margarita flight next trip

Thank you for reading! Definitely ask for it if it isn't on the menu when you are there!

Oh my word - how good to those cupcakes look :cool1:

Cupcakes were amazing! I don't remember what was in the cocktail .. I will try to look up on the official site later tonight (I am at work, limited online time!)

Ok, we are up to Wednesday, 12/30. We planned to be in the MK all day today to celebrate New Year's Eve a night early.

Breakfast was a quick trip to Main Street Bakery. We used a meal credit and a couple of snack credits to get a ham and cheese sandwich, a chocolate croissant and a crumb back along with a couple of coffees and an OJ.

img_0766.jpg
.

All were very good, the sandwich surprisingly so.

Lunch was at The Plaza. We all had the Soups of the Day to start. Chicken and Rice for DH and Tomato Bisque for DS and I.

img_0789.jpg

img_0788.jpg

That tomato soup is one of our favorites!

DS and I split the Cheese Steak Sandwich - shaved beef, grilled with onions, mushrooms, red peppers, and white American cheese served on a hoagie roll and Grilled Reuben - thinly sliced corned beef on grilled marble rye with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing. This picture is 1/2 of each -

img_0790.jpg

Both were good, but the cheesesteak was better.

DH had Angus Chuck Cheeseburger - served on a flour-dusted kaiser roll with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Choose from the following toppings: Cheddar, American cheese, Bacon, Grilled Mushrooms and Grilled Onions

img_0791.jpg
.

He said it was "ok".

For dessert, DS had a black & white shake and I had a hot fudge sundae with cookies & cream ice cream.

img_0792.jpg

img_0793.jpg

Both were delicious! DH just had coffee.

Total with two iced teas and a hot tea was $69.63. This is truly a hidden gem in the MK.

We are putting this on our list!
On to dinner at Flying Fish! Ok, I am sorry to say that this was a disappointment to all of us, especially after our meals at Artist Point and Jiko. I think part of it was that we ate late and that we were absolutely freezing. We tried to check-in early and a woman at the podium was very nasty about it. A younger guy there told us he would take our names and we could warm up in the bar but we would probably be seated at our ADR time. That was fine with us. Wish the first woman had said that instead of snapping at us!

Once seated, our waiter, Tim, was very nice but seemed truly overwhelmed. It seemed that he only had 3 tables but was having a hard time keeping up with things. Not actually "bad" service but not what we had received the previous two nights.

DS started with the Soup of the Day which was said to be New England Clam Chowder with Clam Fritters (not on Allears)

img_0687.jpg

He was a bit disappointed in this. It was more like a clam stew than the creamy NE chowder he is used to.

DH had Crispy Sesame and Togarashi-scented Calamari - spiced green papaya, Wakame and Vegetable Julienne iwth Asian dipping sauce

img_0689.jpg

He said these were just Ok and wished the had tried something else.

I had Our Chef's Degustation of Worldy Artisanal Cheeses - Five tasting portions - Raisins On The Vine, Membrillo, Honeycomb, plum-red-onion balsamico compote

img_0688.jpg

I did enjoy this, especially the honeycomb. And I loved the crispy bread/toasts that came with it.

DS had Our Signature Flying Fish Cafe: Char Crusted Certified Black Angus New York Strip Steak - pole beans, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, root vegetables and Classic Sauce Foyot

img_0693.jpg

He thought this was very good but that DS's steak at Le Cellier was just a bit better.

DS tried Our Signature Flying Fish Cafe Potato-Wrapped Red Snapper - Leek Fondue, veal glace, and Red Wine and Cassis Butter

img_0692.jpg

He loved this. I tried a bite and liked it, too. Neither he or I had ever tried snapper before and were afraid it would be too "fishy" for us but not the case with this. Very good.

I had Wattleseed, Porcini, and Pepperberry-crusted Double-cut Berkshire/Kurabuto Pork Chop - bacon-laced Rhapini, royal mushrooms, celery root, fig-balsamico-red-onion-porcini compote

img_0691.jpg

I seemed to eat pork a lot this trip. This was very good but again just not quite as tender as the pork I had a Jiko.

No dessert for us. We were tired and really just wanted to grab a cab back to POP.

Cost with a one credit bottle of wine was $231.05.

DS said he never wants to come back even though he did enjoy his fish. DH and I would both give it a try but agreed that this meal overall wasn't up to par with our previous meals. But again, it wasn't bad. Just 'off' when compared to our previous dinners. If we had eaten here first, our feelings may have been different.

The Signature Flying Fish Cafe Potato-Wrapped Red Snapper It just looks so good!
