Hi all. Went with mom to her first rheumy appt today. The Dr. was wonderful! He asked her a whole bunch of questions,,and i asked him some. All was going ok until he did her pressure points.I have never heard the word ouch or seen mom flinch/jerk so much. Dr is almost 100% positive it's fibro. He gave her script for Cymbalta.Anyone been on this?..Yay another med added to the list. She has a follow up in 2 weeks. Oh she also may have osteo-arthritis in her knees. She's having a hard time with all of this. She feels like she should be put out to pasture so to speak.Any words of wisdom to pass along to mom? Thanks
Paula

( since i have CFS, the treatment is different but i do have a friend with just fibro as well) but i would wonder why unless she is depressed he's using an anti depressant as an initial drug of choice rather than a pain med
the mental confusion, fatigue, pain is very hard to deal with. i have read articles where people with fibro have considered the pain to be worse than cardiac pain...don't know how old your mom is but lately( i've had cfs for almost 20 yrs, am 53) i've been having a tough time dealing with the lack of ability to live my life how i want to so i think i understand how she feels. i don't think fibro is normally as disabling as cfs but i don't know that most people with it could do as well as the poster who ran the marathons( at least the few i have known couldn't although most of them have also been able to work which most with cfs cant)..and that is hard to deal with. hopefully if she gets some of the pain under control she'll be able to do more.
