Did anyone else listen to the other tape where the woman was shot in the head and she called 911 for help? The operator asked if she was a mental patient, and couldn't believe that the woman's husband was sitting there in the room with her after he shot her. The ciry of Detroit denied the tape ever existed, and the little boy who he is representing now played it for reporters. I'm not sure if the woman lived or died.

I know for sure that in nyc every 911 call is responded too and checked out.The only time a 911 call is canceled or not entered into the system if you call 911 from a hospital,complaning that you want a ambulance to another hospital cause you have been waiting at the first one too long.Other than that every single 911 call is checked out

I just read that they are suing for one million. I think the City of Detroit should be paying A LOT more than a million dollars for something like this.

When my kids were little, DS called 911 and hung up on them. 911 called us right back and asked to speak to us, so I got on the phone with them and apologized. I asked what they would have done if we hadn't answered and they said, "We would have checked it out, of course!"

This happened to my neighbor. Her DH accidently hit the 911 button instead of a different speed dial one. He just hung up as soon as he realized what he did (even before they answered I think), went on to make his call and ignored the call waiting. He did think that it must have been important because they kept calling back but didn't think too much of it. In the end, they send police officers over and they were in our yard sneaking through our bushes to make sure everything was OK over there. She was telling me her DH went out but they made HER come out too (I guess they asked if anyone else was there even after he told them it was an error, etc...). They were told never just hang up on 911 even if you realize you made a mistake, wait until they answer and go "sorry, oops" otherwise they WILL call back and if you don't answer, they WILL send out the police.

I know when I was little a neighbor was supposed to go home to ask her mom something...we got a call back from 911 that someone had called - considering everyone else was in 1 room without the phone I'm convinced it was her that made the call but I did get a very big lecture about only using it in an emergency and I wasn't even the one who made the call!

That's really awful that they didn't check it out. I know I'm always extra nervous when I have to call 911 for anything because it's usually a situation that is well stressful and I'm an adult.

Funny 9-1-1 hang up story....

While working in Arizona someone called 9-1-1 and hung up. On call back I did not get an answer.

Officers were dispatched and found out that the people in the apartment had just scored some really good marijuana and had paged their friend with 9-1-1 to come over and smoke. They answered the door to the officers with joints in their hands....all went to jail....

I have answered many 9-1-1 calls and I have an instinct....one time a lady told me to never mind she had found her cat....yeah....her husband was beating the crap out of her....she got cops....and he got jail time....

I love my job and take it seriously and would gladly beat the living you know what out of this woman for making us all look like ignorant (expletive)...

Okay.....I need to eat chocolate now....I personally am on a 14 hour shift and am the only one on duty....which in some ways is very nice cause I have complete control!

I don't think anyone here is judging you or any other emergency operators by the way this woman behaved. What we are appalled by is that she could have possibly even been allowed to hold that position in the first place and yet STILL continues to hold the position. Something's rotten in Denmark and I think that woman is serving it for dinner.
