Mom and Dad and 2 Picky Kids do the DDP ~ With Lots of Pictures!

I think we'll stay away from Pizza Planet - we'd never get DS8 out of there!! He's a little obsessed with arcades. And I remember it being VERY loud in there too!

Still on the fence about F!... at least if we decide to go, we know what we are up against!

I'm not quite sure how we escaped TSPP without playing any video games. . . . Oh yeah, we told the boys it was almost time for the next Jedi Training Academy! :darth:

drakes

Thursday Jan 22nd ~

Mama Melrose

With Fantasmic showing at 7:00pm in January that meant if you booked a Fantasmic dinner package you had to make it between 3:30-4:30pm. When I called the latest they had was 4:10pm, so I took it. We had been to Mama Melrose before and really enjoyed it but remember how incredibly slow the service was. We got there shortly before our ADR time and walked into a crowded standing room only waiting room. Where we ran into. . . . You guessed it - DISer Trixiequilts & family AGAIN!

We were seated in about 10 minutes or so. This time we all knew what we wanted and when the waitress came to take our drink orders we told her that we were ready to order! With the package we each got an appetizer. I got the "Artisan Breads and Spreads - freshly baked breads served with an arugula and chive pesto, sun-dried tomato, roasted vegetable and roasted garlic spreads $6.99", DH got the "Caesar Salad - Romaine lettuce with Caesar dressing and crostini $5.49", DS9 got a garden salad (which he had no intention of eating, but he didn't like any of the choices), and DS7 asked if he could just have carrots (it wasn't a choice on the menu) and she brought him a bowl of them! For dinner I had the "Charred Butcher Tender Steak gorgonzola butter on roasted red pepper polenta, grilled asparagus and red wine reduction $20.99", which I thought was just okay. Last time we were there I had the Wood Grilled Chicken and thought it was better than the steak. DH had the "Spicy Italian Sausage with rigatoni pasta, peppers, onions, and a tomato basil sauce topped with caprino cheese $16.99" the last time we were there and loved it so much that was the main reason we were there again! So of course he got it again. He says that it wasn't as good as he remembered it to be. :confused3 But he still enjoyed it. Can anyone guess what DS9 ordered??? Yep, pizza AGAIN! And DS7 had plain spaghetti. they were both pleased with their food.

For dessert DH and I both had the "Honey Hazelnut and Ricotta Cheesecake $5.99" which was very good. And the kids had Ice Cream Sundaes that consisted of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and mickey head sprinkles. DS7 was disappointed because most other places were make your own sundaes and he doesn't like chocolate syrup. :upsidedow So DS9 saved the day and told him to just stir it up and the chocolate syrup would go away and he would have chocolate ice cream. Worked like a charm! :thumbsup2

So overall we thought our food was alright. We like the restaurant and the atmosphere. Our service was more efficient this time, under an hour and a half, verses the 2 hours we were in there last time. We have probably had our fill of the place for quite some time though. We have all already agreed next time we are at DHS we will be eating at Sci-Fi!

Mama Melrose

Overall 3.5 out of 5
Food 3.5 out of 5
Service 4 out of 5

Up next ~ Tusker House breakfast

Thanks for the Mama Melrose's review!! I have a feeling we won't end up eating there - but we do have an ADR at Sci Fi on a non-F! night.

Can't wait to hear about Tusker House - we'll be eating there too!

We are a Picky Mom, a not-so-picky dad, 1 sort of picky 5 year old and 1 EXTREMELY picky 8 year old!! I think we had a lot of the same restaurants in mind...

Thank you so much for the review of MM's. We will be doing the fantasmic pkg, and that seems like the best option.

Great review of MM. Still trying to decide which of the three restaurants to choose from for the Fantasmic package. You're review was very helpful.

Nice review of mm. We are thinking of going to mm's on our next visit. It's nice to know a picky eater can get just plain pasta.
Thanks for the reviews. Looking forward to more!

:wave2:

Good review.:)

You know how I feel about MM. Sorry it didn't live up to what you remembered.:guilty:
When we went I really wanted to like it. I think the theming of this place is adorable. We just had a bad experience with the food. But you know, it happens everywhere you go, so I'd be willing to try it again. However, your review kind of makes me nervous. (Especially since we agree on BRG now :rotfl2: )

Anyway- looking forward to Tusker house!

Jo

You're welcome! Thanks for reading!

Yes, I still think MM is the best option for the Fantasmic package. . . We ate at Hollywood & Vine once and thought it was just an okay buffet. . . And with kids we just can't see going to the Brown Derby and using 2 TS's.

Although at this point if they continue to only show Fantasmic 2 times a week we will be skipping it and going to DHS on another day. It was way too crowded!

Yep, it was no problem ordering plain pasta. And DS7 likes to put on his own (and very little) butter, so I just asked for butter on the side and they gave him a little thing of melted butter!

Hey JO! :goodvibes

Yeah, we didn't dislike MM, it just isn't on our must-do list anymore. I would still recommend people to give it a try. The desserts were excellent! :thumbsup2 But then as you have probably noticed I haven't met too many desserts that I don't like! :lmao:

Oh yeah - BRG :goodvibes - I'll be getting to that in a few days!
