So - I keep reading about people bringing moleskin - or if they forgot it - they will bring it next time - This may be a silly question but what is it and what does it do????? Thank you
You'll find it in the foot care section in a pharmacy. It's great for covering blisters so you can keep walking around during your trip. I take some every trip. I always cut it into varying size pieces before I leave home so I don't have to track down scissors if I want to use it.
Moleskin is pretty good stuff but you need to put it on BEFORE yet get the blister. A more effective alternative would be to use duct tape. I know it sounds stupid but if no one can see it does it really matter. Honestly, it works better than moleskin. We carried a little roll around with us this past May and it was a God send! DW's feet weren't treating her very well so I told her to tell me AS SOON as she felt a hot spot forming on her foot. When you feel it starting to get warm, first look behind you to make sure no one is there and then stop dead in your tracks, take your shoe off and apply the duct tape. I really cannot stress how good this stuff is and how much easier it is than moleskin....HTH
I could not have gotten through my trip in September without moleskin. My shoes, which never gave me any problems prior to this trip, just wore my feet raw. I think by the end of our week I was covering my entire heel. It makes it so you can walk comforitably. Make sure you bring some scissors with you or precut it because I had a hard time cutting it with the scissors in the sewing kit.
We've used the Dr. Scholl's brand - it works wonderfully. The fuzzy side creates a nice non-friction surface if you've got a spot where your shoes are rubbing. Stick the sticky side (allow plenty of extra moleskin as feet move alot) to your foot.
My sister-in-law cut her foot at one of the waterparks. Disney was super attentive - even offering a wheelchair for getting around the parks. But we uses almost a whole sheet of moleskin to kind of immobilize the area of the cut and she was able to walk comfortably.
We took a group of 35 people to Disney for 4 park days + 2 water park days and our group used 2 1/2 packages of moleskin in that time.
I love moleskin. I put it on in the mornings before the blisters start. However now I am going to try body glide. People claim that really is fantastic for preventing blisters. I will take them both with me in 45 days. can't wait
You bet! Just the regular ol' duct tape works fine. You kind of need to be careful though because there is some stuff out there called "Duck Tape" and it is nowhere near the same quality as "Duct tape". Duct tape has more fibers in it and has a stronger adhesive. If you buy Duck tape it'll still work but you may need to reapply more often
I've found duct tape to work as well as Moleskin but Moleskin is a lot smaller to carry. A couple of decent sized pieces and a small pair of nail clippers take up a LOT less room than a roll of duct tape.
Its very important to put the moleskin on before your blister starts - my DH decided to put some on his toe after the second day - but it was too late - the blister grew under the moleskin and actually covered his whole little toe. The biggest problem was taking the moleskin off. The sticky side - now on the blister - tore off his skin while trying to change it. Big mess - ouch !!!
Be careful of how you use your moleskin - the best advice would be to put it on a spot where you think your usually get blisters before your first day in any park !!
