Actually Dara, I don't think this debate is ugly at all. I read the whole thread and I see lots of useful information here. As for VMK, I know the limitations can be bothersome but they are for a reason. Goodness knows that I would love to speak in VMK like an adult, but also know that many words and word combinations can have be used in harmful and ugly ways. As a mother and grandmother I for one am glad VMK at least tries to protect children from such behavior. As for personal information, I never give it out ever on VMK, not even to friends! But that also applies to all web sites I frequent! To be honest though there have been times I almost slipped up, like when someone comes up to me and says "your cute, are you taken?" or "will you go out with me?" You don't know how bad I would like to say something like "young man (or young lady), I am a grandmother for pete sake! But alas I roll my eyes politely tell them no or I don't do that, and remind them that it is against VMK values. I don't know if this has ever been brought up before but, since VMK is a site designed for children, wouldn't that be just the place that would attract predators? For instance I also play on Pogo and other sites, NOT targeted mainly to children. Now if I was some sicko looking to "befriend" a child, would Pogo or VMK seem more a more likely source. Well I would say VMK. Perhaps it is for just that reason that the restrictions (values) on VMK are held to a much higher standard? I can think of many other reasons, but even if it is for just this one, then I agree, support and applaud VMK for their effort!
