At the rate we are going there will be 2,000 boards with one post each LOL! That way no one will ever have to read a post that they don't like!

Personally, I think that asking for "special" boards just for your convience is a little rude considering that these boards are free! If we were paying then maybe we could complain, but beggars can't be choosers!

Very Interesting.

From what little of seen--the mods are open to suggestions--it is up to them whether or not to follow suggestions.

I don't think Suzy is being rude at all. I think it was just a suggestion to see what other people think about it. I for one think it would be a good idea because we are supposed to have another active hurricane season. I live about 2 hours away and I would be glad to give information that might help their vacation plans. I bet if the moderator agrees it will be a very popular thread. :sunny:

I have passed the request along to the webmasters. It is up to them to decide.

I do think many posters need to be a little more sensitive to those of us living in the hurricanes path. I know we chose to live here but to us it is more than worrying about our vacation plans. We are the ones whose life may be danger along with property damage. When you are worried about these things it is a little hard to ignore the posts.

I don't want to imply she was being rude... I just find the whole thing kind of silly.... I mean over on the budget board folks are whining that it's not all Disney, here we are whining that we talk about the weather, what next.... Individual boards for each poster with just thier interests! :rotfl2:

I'm sure it's just me being sensitive, but I have a greater concern for those Floridians (like me) that actually live in the true paths of hurricanes. Central Florida residents are not as vulnerable as those of us who live on the coastline perimeter of the state. As one poster said, some of us "go to Orlando" to escape the storms.

I think we might be getting too many sub-divisions. THe codes board took away some of the anticipation I've always experienced waiting for the codes to come out, and I've heard others say that they missed the code because they weren't used to the codes board. I just don't open the posts I don't want to read.

A hurricane bulletin board--I don't think that is on par with saving money. Codes apply most exclusively to resorts--but the hurricanes--end up on ALL boards and apply to residents, those cruising, those visiting, those evacuating--it applies to so many different aspects.

And it isn't going to matter where these storms are or what the path is--as soon as one brews up it will be on Resorts, DCL, and community board---if not the other boards.

I'm all for its own board all together. Probably anyplace but the "Just for fun" section ;) unless there are surfers wanting to know how good the waves are  .

(I live across the street from the beach--so smack my hand if you must--they are usually excited about the waves--but on Frances---nobody was excited for her at all--it was very eery to hear about the surfers being worried as well).

However--in regards to travel insurance and intinerary changes--not sure its own board will help the DCL board very much. Just my opinion due to the nature of their holiday and cancellations.

I think it would give consideration to all curious, to all impacted, and to the experts who've been there, done that before and can offer helpful tips and advice.

Speaking as a midwesterner smack dab in the middle of Tornado alley I know that storm season is no fun. This time of year, a twister can fall out of the sky with no notice and it can be nerve-wracking. I hope I've never upset anyone by asking about weather related subjects and I do admit that I think of these boards as a site for planning vacations mainly. I personally will try to remember your comments as I plan for our next trip (maybe) this fall. If all you Floridians will be a little more sensitive to those of us landlocked folks who can only visite your fair state once every year or two. It is very difficult to read about your monthly trips to WDW and your in-state discounts. Yes, I am being humorous for those of you wondering :)

Sorry about the junk on the end of my previous post. Trying to get back in the swing might take me awhile

As a former mid-westerner myself, I concur about the frightening aspect of tornados :guilty: My niece, who still lives there, won't sleep during bad lightening storms :guilty:

Weather is a big factor for all of us.. especially because we all love spending time at an *outdoor* magical like Disney princess:

Ziggie, I may live in Central FL but last year 3 of the hurricanes had a direct path through my county. I did have quite a bit of damage. I did not "escape" the hurricanes and neither did many other Central Floridians.

That may not always be the case but I would think that someone living in Florida could understand hurricanes and the anxiety that goes with it whether they lived along the coast or inland.

Too true! I forget what the actual numbers were, but very few FL counties were spared damage last year. WDW was our evacuation plan, but we actually fared better staying here (on the coast) and getting the backside of Frances and Jeanne. For Charley, we ended up in Gainesville...good thing we didn't go to Orlando!

But we're already getting the 'hurricane willies' this year. Thunderstorms make me a bit nervous these days. And that storm that blew up in the Pacific this past week...our news station went a little overboard. This time last year, they would've just mentioned that it was the first storm of the year, but this year we got the forecast track with the zone of uncertainty and assurances that it wasn't likely to hit us. :scared1: I think we're all gonna be a bit 'weather sensitive' for the next few years.

As to a dedicated weather board, summer weather is pretty much the same every year. It's hot and sticky every day until the 4pm thunderstorm cools things off. Winter's a lot more variable...you can go from shorts to long johns in a day. Maybe a sticky with a link to a local Orlando TV channel for weather news? They usually have 7-day forecasts that can help with planning. And a link to the Hurricane Center for official updates during hurricane season...Lisa's right...those storms don't just affect us! The DVC at Hilton Head could be in the way of some of those storms!

JMHO!

I don't doubt that you experienced some damage... it seems a lot of us did. However, as we all know, hurricanes are water driven storms. The hardest hit areas are always where they "make landfall". As they continue over land, they lose some of their power and weaken.

I know you've recently moved into Florida... hurricanes are no fun.

Welcome to my world.... :guilty:

Frances makes landfall in Florida
Saturday, September 4, 2004 Posted: 11:17 PM EDT (0317 GMT)

# 11 p.m. Saturday ET Position of center: About 35 miles (56 kilometers) northeast of Palm Beach, Florida
# Latitude: 27.1 north
# Longitude: 79.7 west
# Top sustained winds: 105 mph (165 kph)

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- The western eyewall of Hurricane Frances came ashore along Florida's east coast Friday night between Palm Beach and Fort Pierce.

Frances has maximum sustained winds near 105 mph (165 kph). Hurricane-force winds extend outward 85 miles (140 kilometers) from the storm's center, which was 35 miles northeast of Palm Beach at 11 p.m. ET.

I think part of the problem isn't that there isn't a dedicated forum for hurricanes, but that lots of people just start new threads on teh same topic rather than spending 15 seconds looking to see if there isn't one already open.

I got measured for my Storm Stoppers today, waiting for the price quote. Ugh. I'm going to buy them regardless, with an $8,000+ hurricane dedutible, it's worth it in the long run. The price of living in paradise I guess.

Anne, how do you like living in Clermont? Some of my friends recently moved to Summit Greens. They seem to be enjoying themselves very much :goodvibes

I really don't think it is necessary to creat a "hurricane" board. People are going to be asking questions about the resorts in reference to the hurricanes anyway. WDW doesn't get hit by hurricanes that often. If you don't want to read the thread then just don't open it and move on to the next one. This is the 2nd request I have seen today posted by someone that didn't like what other people where starting threads about asking the moderators to open a new board. :confused3

I knew when I moved to Florida that hurricanes were a risk and I was willing to take that risk.

This last year may have been unusual for hurricanes but I don't think anyone is safe when one is overhead. Many people in Polk County lost everything.

I don't want to debate hurricanes and locations. I just voiced my opinion like others did. It does bother some of us when others are more concerned about if the grocery stores are open, can they get water, will they let us leave the room, instead of being worried about the thousands of people in harms way.

I did answer those questions last year to everyone that asked. I just hope it is a quiet hurricane season for many reasons.

I think a weather board is a good idea, but people are alwasy asking what "resort" will treat them best during a hurricane and then the post ends up on the resort board. Oh, boy! Those threads are hard to read. I am worrying about my roof blowign off and windows blowing in and people want to know if the food court will be open. There are a lot of questions about weather and I never know where to post them. I keep checking for our trip next week. So far so good.
I am with susy on this one. :guilty: Hoping for a lucky season this year, and please Moderators take this idea and consider it, thanks...... Hurricane survivor! :p

I am another that would like to see the weather consolidated in one area. We were at WDW just before Frances and returned home early because of a frightened call from my 22 yo. She didn't want to ride out a hurricane by herself with just our animals. Hurricanes are serious business around and while I understand people being worried about their vacations, it just doesn't mean much when homes are destroyed and people are displaced. I was much more concerned about local DISers who lost their homes.
