Moderate Room instead of DVC

We are staying at POR instead of the usual 1 br villa at OKW.

Has anyone stayed in a regular room for a week? How does it compare? Will we be miserable?

I am just nervous that without room to move around we will get on each others nerves during our down time. Also, we can't stay in a little room during down time, where do we go to relax?

I can't tell you whether or not you'll be miserable but I'd go out of my mind. DVC one and two bedrooms have spoiled me forever.:cool1:

I think the grounds of POR are lovely, and there's plenty of paths to walk along, and there's the lounge next to the place where Bob Jackson plays on certain nights.

Are you familiar with Bob Jackson? Here's his website:

There's only DH and I and we're staying at POP for 3 nights in September, and I'm DETERMINED to make the best of it:goodvibes

It's not the luxury of DVC but it "ain't half bad". I spent time Christmas Week one year at CBR vs. what were typically 1 bedroom stays at OKW -- and I had a terrific time. Enjoy what you have vs. thinking about what you're missing. The key will be to get out and do things vs. hanging out in the room like you might at a DVC resort. Maybe you'll want to take your adult nap/downtime poolside in a lounge chair vs. in the room on the bed.

I really like POR but the one thing I would miss is not having a balcony. It's a nice thing to have to easily provide a little "seperation" from the group.

We have been 3 x to POR. The rooms will be smaller and no sofa, but go to the pool bar to relax or the lounge inside as was mentioned. Also the quiet pools near the mansions are large. Walk the grounds and see POFQ.

If you go and see "Bob" while your there be careful he is addicting:rotfl:

coward here - was staying at Pop for 6 nights with free dinning - still staying at Pop but only a couple of nights - then going to OKW studio.

since really need the studio - another person is going that isn't on the Pop reservations.

guess it depends on how quiet Pop is at night and my neighbors - if my neighbors are up partying until 2 am - then definitely moving - if not - might just stay there.

Pop has some stuff I love.

so does POR - at night you call walk the grounds - plenty of benches - so you can have your alone night - if the weather is okay. (no storms)

POR's food court and gift shop are some of the best on WDW property IMO

so you might be happy.

the only problems is there is only one hot tub - it is at the main pool. but since there is only one it is crowded.

now really miss the extra hot tubs at the DVC resorts.

We are huge POR fans. If there was DVC there, I would buy it immediately. There is just something very relaxing about the place, but at the same time there are places to go and things to do. The sit-down restaurant, while not much to look at, is perhaps my favorite in Disney, and I can always find something good to eat at the food court. The main pool is beautiful. To me, the only downside is the room, if you are used to something bigger. But if you don't spend much time in the room, I think it is truly a special resort.

I like the idea of focusing on what we have not what we don't. It is all on how we look at it.

I think the grounds are nice, there is boat ride to DTD and it is by POFQ and those nice puffy fried bread things.

We will go to the bar, pool and for walks around. It is not going to be OKW but it is going to be nice.

at the food court at POR (not POFQ) get one of their hamburgers - love 'em

they grill (not fry) them infront of you.

We did a night at POR on each end of a trip a couple of years ago, and we HATED it! I had forgotten how small those rooms, bathrooms and especially BEDS were!!! We like the food court at POR for breakfast, but we couldn't wait to get out of that room!

would you be OK in a studio at OKW? Then it's about the same--except double beds. No kitchen, no sofa, no washer, one TV. Lights out for everyone at the same time. For a day or two, we can handle a studio or hotel room, but for more than 2 days, we need a 1 BR. If you have only traveled in 1 BR for the past few years, it's quite different.

Boy, do I desagree with that assessment! The studio at OKW is a lot larger, has QUEEN beds, has a balcony, has a HUGE bathroom and a kitchenette. NO comparison at all!

my response was related to the type of room--2 beds, no other living space vs. size, luxury, amenities, etc. Yes, OKW studio might be "better" than a moderate--but it is still 2 beds in a room. I just stayed in a OKW studio for 4 days and, for me, the issues are the same whether it is a moderate or deluxe. Both are OK for a day or two, but for longer trips, we need a separate living area.

I love my DVC. I love going to WDW. I'd rather stay at a Villa, but I'd rather be staying at POR than staying at home any day. Is it just me or was POR more beloved when it's name was Dixie Landings?

definitely - really miss Dixie landings.... politicial

We stayed at CSR, in 2006 for Free Dining for 6 nights, the beds were terrible! It was just 2 of us, I don't know how a family of 4 handles it. We ended up sleeping in separate beds, then we checked out a day early. We just could not take it any longer. We had started our stay with 3 days of DVC one bedroom accommdations. The Moderate was such a let down. I just don't think I could do it again. No balcony, I really use this at night, the bathroom was so small, the beds were so hard and small. I kept telling myself about the deal we were receiving, but in the end we had enough. Checked out and came home early. I just could not believe I was doing that.
The first thing I notice about a hotel room is how good the mattress is. The rest I can deal with. For those that love Moderates, I mean no offense. I am just beyond that with my poor hip.

I am going to focus on the good at POR. We are going to have a wonderful time in Disney, walk the lush grounds, enjoy the pool and hopefully it will be relaxed. I will set on benches and pretend it is my own patio. The pool will be good for the little one.

The bar sounds fun! I hope we can bring a child into the bar?

For the bed, little one falls asleep with me and then I move to own bed so it will be ok. There may not be a move.

It is free dining, MNSSHP and we are going to Disney!
