Hi! Family of 4 with a preschooler & kindergartner looking for Oct/Nov 2011 trip to Disney- this would be our first time at a moderate resort- what would you recommend? Most of our park time will be at MK and EPCOT. Are POR and POQR more centrally located? How are restaurants at the moderates? Grandma got overwhelmed by the food court at All-Star Movies last year.... (if we can get a good deal, Grandma & Grandpa might join us again this year!)

We've only stayed at POR (we will be back there in Dec.) and CSR, but have walked through the other two to see if would want to stay there in the future, which we don't. So, our fave mod resort is POR. Quiet, lush, good food court, boat to Downtown Disney. We love it there.

When we stayed at CSR, there were two conventions there and we didn't enjoy it. Quiet pools were closed for private parties, and the large groups of men hanging out at the outdoor bar, just made it feel "non-Disney" to me. We also didn't care for the Pepper Market. It might have been different if we went at a diffferent time, not sure.

POR, because of the following; boat to DTD, on site table service restaurant, not too large and love the "manor" buildings. :thumbsup2
French Quarters was nice to but only quick service restaurant, plus if you have children the pool and play areas where better at POR IMHO.

CBR was nice too but the buses to the parks were erratic to say the least and no boat ride to DTD. :upsidedow

I don't like POR-Alligator Bayou section as it is very dark and scary to walk through during the night. I do like the Magnolia Bend section just don't love it. The pool there is fun and the restaurant is great. Transportation is an issue as it shares busses with PO-FQ and is the last to get picked up and dropped off which can make for some long trips sometimes standing. I like PO-FQ for its size and the quaintness of it but that's about it. For both PO hotels the boat trip to DTD is very convenient but not a dela breaker if you aren't a shopper.

CBR is huge!! The new pool is fun but small and on a busy day it is very crowded. I don't like the fast food area but the restaurant is OK. The rooms are larger than the other mod's and some have been remodeled. I have issues with the new Pirates themed rooms as I don't like skulls on anything except poison bottles as warning labels. I find it offensive so I could never stay in a room where the divider between the sinks and the main room is a curtain with a giant skull and crossbone.

CSR is my favorite mod. I love the pool, love the landscaping, love the food court, love the restaurant, love the newly remodeled rooms, ... I have stayed there more than 20 times and have never had a complaint. The pool is great for kids, has a playground off to one side and a kiddie pool. The arcade is there as well. The food court has everything from good old hot dogs to mexican to chinese and everything in between. We got the best meal we ever had at WDW at the Maya Grill two Christmases ago. My DD12 has considered CSR her second home since she was old enough to realize we had stayed there before. In fact, even though we have stayed at almost all the other resorts, CSR is still on her list of favs.

Good luck in picking a resort. Hope this helped.

That's my take on the moderates.

We have stayed at 3 of the moderates, and liked POR the best. We loved the theme, restaurant, and boat to Downtown Disney. We stayed in the Mansions and loved it! My least favorite is POFQ. Many people like it because of its size, but so is the food court selection. I don't remember much about our stay there, so that is probably why it is my least favorite. CSR is very spread out, but we loved the food court selection, and we had some great food at Pepper Market. There were no conventions during the time we were there, so I really don't have any complaints, but overall we like the theme and feel of POR the best.

We have stayed at CBR and POR...We enjoyed both, but CBR is our favorite. Our kids (3 and 6) prefer CBR. It is large, but we ussually get a prefered room so we can be close to the food court, since we eat breakfast there quite a bit. With the prefered room location, it doesn't seem as large. pirate:
