Moderate or Value Disney Resort as a DVC???

You would think that with 265 million + people in the U.S (not to mention abroad) that this idea would appeal to somebody. I have read most of the replys to this great post and I see many good points. I think if it was done right that the very idea might work in theory but HOW to make it work is why I'm a surveyor not a builder

If the price was low enough, I can see quite a few people who might buy into that idea. I would NOT be one of them. I don't see myself staying at a budget resort any more than I see myself staying in a studio at DVC. I do think it would have to be seperate from DVC though, since it would not compare in size or quality.

Adding options for potential new DVCers would be a big plus in building attendence for WDW and I would fully support it as long as the current DVC model is not disturbed. I like the idea of moderates but wouldn't like value resorts to be included, I guess that's my snob-level. Make it more affordable but maintain the quality level.

I agree that a moderate DVC (DVC-M) should have limited access to the current deluxe DVC (DVC-D) properties, say 4 or 5 months. I don't know if EOY options are necessary because of the banking/borrowing that is already available. Although I understand the reasoning for minimum stays, I would hope they wouldn't be added - we've always stayed at DVC 3 or 4 nights on each trip and it always includes a Saturday - so it's not to save points, we just happen to do short trips. Next year we're adding 2 nights at BWV to our Disney cruise trip.

I don't agree that all of those buying into DVC-M would be folks of smaller means than current DVC - probably just not as dedicated to Disney in general. It is a large chunk of money for one (primarily one) vacation destination. Most people I know have family incomes into 6 figures and wouldn't pay >$10,000 for DVC - it's not a priority. They go to WDW and stay at moderates as we used to do. We'd stay at POR again, we loved that place. I'll admit that we've been spoiled with BWV/OKW but I'd wecome POR as an option.

I don't think DVC could just offer existing moderates for lower points, I assume they need the large buy-in amount to establish capital for the project. I don't know how they would deal with the Concierge Collection, II, etc. Since many of the available II properties are a trade down from DVC, it does seem reasonable that it would be an option for DVC-M but I don't know how they'd work it.

Making DVC available to more people through DVC-M would give WDW a greater dedicated customer base to help ensure future revenues.
