This one goes way back to the '70's. There were model kits of Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. One of the pirate kits was of skeletons floating on a raft and one would pop out of a box (rubber band activated) and stab a map right on the "X" where the buried treasure was. I believe there were others. The haunted mansion one was of the organist in the ballroom scene.

Does anyone know where I can definitely find more info about these models and if it is possible to still obtain them?

(Sadly, I had these as a kid but gave them to a cousin many, many years ago. Even more sad is our family has been unable to find this family member)

PS If anyone can even remember the name of the model company that would be a help.

Sorry, don't have the name of a company .

But I do have the name of a store that carries that haunted mansion model kit. (or they did last time I visited) They have quite a collection of cool stuff!

You can call and speak to Paul or Peter.
it's called AMOK Time. Phone # is 516-520-0975
They also have a website amoktime.com but not sure how extensive the collection is on site.
If anyone can help you, they certainly can! Good luck!

The Pirates kits have been out of production for many years. They were produced by MPC (Model Products Company) beginning in 1973 thru 1975. Initially there were five kits, and two more were added later:

1-5001 Dead Men Tell No Tales
1-5002 Hoist High the Jolly Roger
1-5003 Condemned to Chains Forever
1-5004 Fate of the Mutineers
1-5005 Dead Man's Raft
1-5006 Ghost of the Treasure Guard
1-5007 Freed in the Nick of Time

The HM kits were produced in 1974. In my opinion, only "Play it Again, Sam" (The organist), was based on anything from the Haunted Mansion attraction story line.

1-5050 Grave Robber's Reward
1-5051 Vampire's Midnight Madness
1-5052 Play It Again, Sam
1-5053 Escape From the Crypt

All of the kits featured "Zap/Action!" powered by a rubber band. I saw a stack of these kits at the NFFC "Show & Sale" two weeks ago, but I didn't ask the prices. Check out eBay using MPC and Pirates as the key words. Expect to pay about $75 for the smaller kits and over $100 for the bigger kits, with box and all parts.
