Sorry to ask a question that has undoubtably been done to death on here, but I'm gonna ask anyway!
I live in Germany, I have a Vodafone 'Call-ya' mobile which I believe is the same as the 'Pay as You Go' in the UK.
My phone doesn't sing or dance, it doesn't do anything fancy other than phone or text. I know it won't work in the US, nor will hubby's which is essentially the same.
We went and looked at SIM free tri band phones but they want around 100 for one. I don't see the point in paying this as both of our phones are perfectly functionable for our needs.
BUT! We want to be contactable whilst we're away, with the dog in kennels and family etc, and as we're staying in 3 different places it may be difficult to keep track of us.
Is it worth us spending 100 on a SIM free phone here and buying a US SIM there? Or, should we just buy a cheap and cheerful Pay as you go phone when we get there?
This leads to my next question....I know in UK you can just pick up a PAYG mobile and start using it right away (or that's how it worked when I was last there!), but here in Germany you have to take proof of address and register it all properly and officially. What is the case in the USA?
Sorry to ask so many questions
