I'm in America & have had a Tracfone for about 5 years and I love it.

Tracfones are great if you are going to use the phone a moderate amount, for emergencies usage.

The battery & charger come with the phones. They have a package deal for 120 minutes with a reconditioned phone included for between $14.99 (Target) - $29.99 USD. I *think* the "reconditioned" phones are when someone returns a used phone after testing it out under their return policy, Tracfone has to wipe the old telephone number from it's memory before selling it again. They can't simply be put back on the store shelves. (In the years I've had my phones & been reading various forums, most people have not been reporting much trouble with the reconditioned phones.)
Tracfone doesn't have their own cell service, per se. What they do is RENT cell service from existing major carriers in the areas you will be in. Instead of getting a Verizon cellphone, & only having serviced dedicated to Verizon, when I've traveled, the Tracfone SWITCHED to whatever carrier was available to me, in that area.
When I've been in the boonies with friends & we all turned on our phones. The Sprint people almost never had coverage because of the all digital network. If there was a carrier out there that Tracfone works with, I usually had service. Of course, in some areas, none of us had any service.
On the Tracfone website, there is a place to enter the zip codes to see if they have coverage in the areas you will be in.
Tracfone Coverage
The best way to utilize the Tracfones while you are here is to buy 2 phones for you & Hubbie. Have them mailed to the hotel you will be staying at, so they are here when you arrive, if you buy them off the Tracfone website. Although buying one from Target or
Walmart may be better, so you can immediately exchange the phone if there is a problem with that phone.
Get a Referral to activate the first phone. This gives you 100 free bonus minutes along with whatever phone package you buy. You get 20 minutes at activation + 60 days service or more. Plus there are ALWAYS promo bonus codes for another free 40 minutes or more, to add onto whatever Minutes Card you get.

So if you bought the 120 minute phone package, you will be getting 20 min activation + 120 minute card + 40 bonus minutes + 100 referral minutes = a total of 280 minutes + 60 days (or more) airtime, all for about $29.99 USD.
Once the first phone is activated, use that phone's email account to send a referral to the second phone's email. (If your hotel does not have internet service, there are many internet cafes and libraries around so you can log online & activate. Takes about 10 minutes. You DO need to be in the area you will be using the phone to activate, so the cell tower can locate you.) The first phone will get 100 minutes to add on for sending the referral + the second phone will get the 100 bonus referral minutes. Then each phone will have the 280 minutes + 60(+) days of airtime, (depending on when you add on all the minutes.) The first phone will actually have 380 minutes.
I can send a referral to anyone interested in the 100 free bonus referral minutes, when you are ready to come over.

I also include detailed directions to help you get set up & activated and will be available online to answer any/all questions you have about the phones.
Just send me a Private Message when you are ready or need more info.
