My DS will be turning 3 on our trip- do you think he will be too young for MNSSHP? What times do things start for this event? Anyone taken a 3 yo before???

Our 2.5 year old loved it. What couldn't you love, you hold out a bag and they fill it with sweets...... he was in heaven.

We spent the morning at Typhoon Lagoon, had lunch at Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney, we headed to the MK at around 7. He had a decent nap in the afternoon of about 3 hours.

We had a down day the next day and he seemed to cope fine.

He didn't like the fireworks but, did enjoy the parade even though it was bucketing down with rain.

It was our first trip to the MK so it was his first time on the rides there. (the only time he got to ride Dumbo)

I have a trip report that is linked at the bottom of my signature if you would like to read about it.

The event officially starts at 7.00 but word on the street is you can get in from 4.00 pm on your ticket,

Kirsten

We took our DD in Sept last year when she was 2 1/2 yo. Halloween is her favorite holiday so she loved it. I would go to youtube to watch the parade to see what you think about that. The parade had a few parts that could be scarey for the little ones. Mickey and those characters are dressed up but they aren't scarey. My DD thought the Snow White witch on the ride was scarey but had no problems with anything at the party. How does your son react to scarey parts in movies?? Or to Halloween decorations? We spent alot of time before Halloween showing her scarey masks and turning them inside out and letting her feel them. So she'd know they weren't real. We had a blast and are planning our next trip around the same time so we can go to the party again. :yay:

ooooohhhhh checking out trip report now! :thumbsup2

I think it would be really fun to do, I just wasn't sure if it was too much for a little one! Good idea to have a relaxed day beforehand and after!!!

He seems okay thus far on the scary parts of movies. On occasion will sit a bit closer to us, but still is entranced by them! I really want to do this, but I didn't want to go if DS wouldn't be ready for it! Thanks for sharing your experience!

If you 3 year old isn't scared of characters/fireworks normally...you'll LOVE it. Our DD did. The party does run late so as long as you have a good downtime/nap that day (party is technically from 7-Midnight but you can get in at 4pm), you'll be surprised how long their batteries keep going...we were :rotfl:

Here is the link to our TR from last year. Lots of pics of MNSSHP toward the end

Yippee! I love trip reports :lovestruc

Not sure if anyone would know the answer to this as well- but I know since the beginning of the trip our DS will be 2 he is going to be treated as 2 for the remainder of the trip- will this apply to MNSSHP or will I need to buy him a ticket for this event?

We took DD when she was not quite 2....not quite 3....and not quite 4 and she loved it. The first year she was a little concerned at the parade....but nothing major. But then after going 3 years we took her last year at not quite 5 and she hated the parade....it scared her. I was totally thrown for a loop and to be quite honest irritated about it:) DH just took her into a store and everything was fine.....but it really surprised me that now she gets scared. We may be going for her birthday this year (11/1) and there would be two opportunities for the party but after last year I think we'll just skip it. But those first 3 years she loved every bit of it :rotfl:

He will not need a ticket since he'll be technically "2" the whole trip! Lucky you!!!

Both are Canons. The characters meals are mostly my Powershot P&S and the other ones are from my Canon XT DSLR. It was my first trip with it. It's now truly an addiction :)

I hope you like it, I have linked the days up at the bottom of each page, as I realised it might be difficult to fnd the next installment as it is on the UK Trip Report Boards.

You will all have a fab time, I am so jealous.

I took DS3 and DS6 to MNSSHP in october. I went twice because I knew there was lots to do/see and that my boys couldn't stay up that late. (see my Oct trip report link below for more pictures). I wanted to see Disney at Halloween, so we went specifically for MNSSHP.

There are lots of fun characters and shows. The parade is fabulous!! The only real concern is how late can your children stay up? Since the party starts at 7pm, parade at 8pm and FW at 9pm, can they stay awake and enjoy enough. Maybe they can sleep in the stroller and they you can still see characters, shows, etc when they are sleeping. Make sure they are fully rested in preparation for a long night. Make sure you dress up in costumes. Have a great time!

That's a great age for MNSSHP! We took DD when she was three, then again at four, now she'll be five this year when we go.

Younger DD went at 7 months, and one year. This year she'll be two.

We take our annual week long trip every year in the fall and attend MNSSHP.

My little guy has been at ages 2, 3, and 4 and LOVED it every time. It's a real highlight for him. We're going back this year, and he's already sooooo excited. Last time we went, we took his then 13 month old cousin and they both had a blast as Dash and Jack-Jack and they both made it to through the whole party easily. We just scheduled a long nap that afternoon and a sleep-in morning for the next day.

I'll give a dissenting view. We took kids who were a little older. My kids have never been nappers. The party started at seven. They were wiped by nine. It was a REALLY EXPENSIVE couple of hours for a few pieces of candy, a few rides and a parade (the parade was cute). We kept them out until fireworks (which were nice).

There were a ton of small kids - so the lines to rides were actually SHORTER that afternoon over naptime than they were that evening. However, the lines to the bigger rides were almost nothing in the evening (and had been long in the afternoon).

If this were a cheaper event, I think it would be worth it. But the value isn't there for us.

I am thinking if we have a late nap that day and take it easy in the morning he should be able to stay up at least through fireworks. I just think it looks like so much fun!!!!

I am glad you and your DDs had a good time! I was hoping to hear from other parents that have taken younger kids that it is fun for them because I really want to go :rotfl:

It is a steep price, so we are definitely considering the cost too....of course my DS will be free :lmao:

I absolutely ADORE your shirts!!! My DS's papa and grandma will be going too :goodvibes

I couldn't help but giggle at your Chef Mickey photos! Look like your youngest thought Minnie was going to torture him :rotfl: It must be strange to have a giant mouse approach you for the first time!

We took DS in 06 when he was almost 2, then again last Oct when he was almost 4. The first year he slept from the parade on, which was okay since he was free :) Last year he LOVED it, so much so we had planned on going again, but he got sick and had to stay home. There is a trip report and pictures in my link in my sig.

Both years we did parks in the morning, went home for naps (well, rest since no one naps at my house) then back to the party for dinner. The next day we usually do World Showcase at Epcot since it doesn't open until 11 and we can sleep in.

When you put it like that I totally agree, it is nice that your son's grandparents can join you on your trip. I was really pleased that the inlaws came on our first trip.

Off topic, but I notice you are from Seattle, we are doing a road trip from LA to Vancouver starting June 2nd, on our way back to the UK from NZ. We plan to spend a couple of days in Seattle before flying back to LA for 5 days and then back to the UK. Any tips for child friendly things to do in Seattle and must dos, I have been told to visit the fish market.

Fish market is fun for sure- especiallly in the summer! The Seattle Center has a great Children's Museum. Right now they have a Curious George exhibit that is a lot of fun, but it ends in May, so maybe check their site closer to the trip to see what special exhibit will be happening when you are in town.

The Woodland Park Zoo is a pretty great zoo in my opinion, but I wouldn't really reccomend the aquarium. Also if your kiddos like planes the Museum of Flight would be a good option!
