Hi everyone!

I know the dates haven't been released yet, but I have been thinking about my costume for this years party (it will be my first one and I'm very over-excited!!).

Probably a stupid question - but - I was thinking of going as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz - would that be allowed as she's not a Disney character?! We don't really do much for Halloween over here, am I totally on the wrong track?! Otherwise I'm going to be a witch!!

Thanks!:goodvibes

when we were there last year there we tons of "non disney" costumes. We are from canada and it has been known to snow in past years so our costumes are too warm for mnsshp. we went in sept last year and it was HOT.....keep the heat and walking shoes in mind when designing your costume. I was a pirate last year but summerfied :thumbsup2 my dd was ariel which was nice and cool ds (tuened 3 on trip) kept his captin hook on for all of 5 minutes.

have fun....we are thinking about our mnsshp costumes now too:goodvibes

you can be whatever you want to be !!!! it's disney!!!! There are no rules saying the costume has to be disney :)
I loved MNSSHP! Hope you have fun.

Regarding costumes for MNSSHP you are free to do any costume - Disney or non Disney - so long as it is appropriate (No nudity, profanity, or too risque) and for adults if you choose a Disney character costumes shouldn't be too authentic to confuse other guests into thinking you are a CM (i.e. no autographs from you {although what a compliment to you costume if others thought you were that character :goodvibes}). It is also suggested that the costume not be too big or bulky for safety reasons (walking around the park, entering and exiting attractions, etc)

All that being said, definately take into account the temperature - it can still be very warm (down right hot even). DH went as Joker (Heath Ledger version) and had his purple suit on (he was so excited that he got to wear it again) but didn't remember how warm it kept him. Well he lasted all of 10 minutes - he was walking along Adventureland by the Dole Whips and the clothes just start coming off  - Remember there's no stripping in Disney - he had to go into the shop there and buy and shorts and top. So there he is in khacki shorts, a Hawaiian flowery shirt, and Joker face paint (streaking from all the sweat) :scared1: - it was quite amusing for me b/c I kept telling him he'd be too hot and he kept saying..."no no I'll be fine" -sometimes they just have to learn on their own :confused3

October dates are out...I would guess that any day the Magic Kingdom closes at 7pm would be a MNSSHP date.
We have a group of 17 that's thinking about a Grease theme - Pink Ladies and T-Birds. It can get pretty hot, though. Average temps in the mid to high 80s.

we are going to mnsshp on october 29th and are trying to come up with a ostume idea. there will be four of us, 3 girls and 1 guy... any ideas???? we want to stay with a disney theme. last year we were wendy, peter pan, tinkerbell and a pirate, so any thing along the lines of pirates is out... any sugestions????

I am looking for Ideas too, anyone have any photos they can share for ideas?

Here's a cute one for a family....One year we went to MNSSHP,

My DD4 wore a grass skirt/Hawaiian outfit, my DD2 wore a kimono, and I threw a kilt on my red headed 10 month old boy --- and they were It's a Small World dolls :) You could obviously use any countries that appealed to you...

Enjoy!

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful! DH is refusing to come as the scarecrow or tinman though, so my Dorothy idea isn't going anywhere (I really want us to be a matching pair!!!). Back to the drawing board!

my dh won't dress up either lol my daughter wants him to be terrence, and herself , my son and I all faries lol she is 5. She wants us all to be matching so my 3ds wants to be bruce so that leaves dd as nemo and dh and i as dorey and marlin lol

we are still at the drawing board too. In canada now is the time to start buying supplies....by august the stores will have fall clothes out.

We went to MNSSHP early September last year, and saw lots of Dorothy/Wizard of Oz costumes. Even several very hairy guys dressed up as Dorothy (which just looked wrong, lol...hairychest peeking out above that cute blue checked dress.) Also Little Red Riding Hood with a beard (and pigtail wig) These guys were part of family groups...so I suspect they told the wife that's the only way they would wear a costume. They all looked like they were having great fun anyway.

I made Halloween dresses for my niece and I last year. They were nice and cool.

I will be doing the same this year only I will have the younger niece.

DS is going as Phineas. I found the perfect shirt and pants. Bonus is, they are lightweight clothing (cotton blend) vs. being plastic. I'm trying to find a green bathing suit for DD to be Tink... I'll just make her a tutu to wear with it!

Yesterday, DS was begging me to find a Ferb costume for DH. Boy if I can find purple shorts! It will be perfect!

No MNSSHP for us this year :sad1: but last year we had a blast in costumes from the cast of "Hercules" and the togas were nice and cool! The only one of us that was too hot was middle DS as he was dressed as Zeus with a wig and beard, lol!

Other costumes we considered were our fave Disney villians and our fave country in Epcot (complete with the country's icon as the hat - i.e. a Totem Pole for Canada :rotfl:). This year we're throwing a big Halloween party and dressing as the cast of "Hocus Pocus."

Definitely remember the temperature when choosing your costumes - and have fun! :goodvibes

Either use an old pair of his khaki shorts, or buy a pair of very light khaki shorts at thrift store for uber-cheap & then dye them purple...you can find Rit Dye at Walmart and almost any fabric store for just a couple of dollars and I've seen purple many times -- that fabric dye is fairly easy to use,and you can do it in your washing machine. But don't wash the shorts with other clothes after using them (not that he'd want to wear the purple shorts for anything other than a costume, lol.)

I don't dye items in my washing machine anymore - we've had an unfortunate accident with whites after my daughter forgot to run a cleansing load through after she dyed some clothes pink, lol. I use a big bucket and dye things by hand.

yeah that's a bummer to end up with a whole load of Barbi clothes-especially if it's the teen boys' undershorts or gym clothes:rotfl:

We saw you guys!!! We were on the bus with you back to AKL after the party.

We dressed as lands from the Magic Kingdom. I was a scarecrow from Mickey's Toontown Fair, DS was an engineer from Main St USA and DH was a mad scientist from tomorrowland. We had a whole group including a Frontierland Cowgirl, A Pixie Hollow fairy, Adventureland Hula girl and a ghost from Liberty Square.

Because we were a big group we also thought about doing the countries from epcot.

DH and I went last year. We wore matching outfits in 60s type clothing. I had on an orange paisley cotton dress and DH wore a matching shirt with white linen pants. My favorite was the white go go boots though. I always wanted a pair but never had an excuse to buy them.
We are wearing the same costumes this year. DS and DD are going as pirates. They have appts at Pirates League earlier that day.
Good luck deciding. Just remember it will be hot.

We used to go all out with costumes but it's just too hot..we accessorize t-shirts now..For example, my sister was Tinkerbelle-she wore a Tink t-shirt, wore her blond hair in a bun and we attached sparkly wings to the t-shirt.

I was the evil Queen from Snow White-wore a crown and makeup with my t-shirt.
