MNSSHP Costume Rule, capes?

I just read the 2016 MNSSHP costume rules. And I see this one,
  • Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.

I am hand making my Elsa costume. The cape will not drag the ground but I was planning on having it to my feet. I have emailed Disney about this, but I just wanted some thoughts about this from others as this would be my first year attending the party. Are they going to turn Elsa's away with capes longer than the waist or do I need to be prepared to go back to the car and cut my cape? I hope not the fabric was expensive.

Thank you all very much.

I think they mean it too. I would follow the rules just to be safe. Maybe you could make a cap with Velcro half way down so it could be long if you wore the costume elsewhere?

I think they are saying that so that banned items can't be hidden underneath, they would be harder to see. It's probably going to be warm, that might be too hot.

I would expect to remove the Cape or cut it so it's not longer than the waist.

Seeing as how they now have walk through metal detectors (and yes I was randomly screened through it EVERY day at the MK even though no one else in our party was once), I'd say if you don't want to abide by the new rules, you can plan on not getting into the park.

Yep. I have a would-be adult Sith lord who is modifying to a Robin Hood, since Robin lacks a floor-length robe.

I guess since my cape is see through I don't understand how I could hide anything under it. I already modified it for last years rule of nothing drags the ground. Now if I want a cape it has to be like 12 inches? That's ridiculous. It's difficult to make exceptions, but if capes are see through then I think they should be let in. I know Disney will probably end up saying too bad so sad, give me your $2,500 anyway for your vacation. I guess I will have to get creative here. Thanks everyone. If a few people didn't ruin things for everyone else I guess it would be different.

It's not just about hiding stuff, it's about fabric that drags causing issues in crowds.

Well if a cape was butt or knee length I don't think it would drag.

I sympathize with you. I wanted to make a maleficent cape full length and now if I want to be Maleficent I will need to make it waist length which just won't have the drama. Plus I won't be able to bring in the tall staff with the glowing ball on top that I wanted to create.

So now I'm thinking of doing something else instead. Good Luck - at least you know you'll have fun not matter what you decide.

Sorry I couldnt help it.

I'm in the same boat - I'm going as the Evil Queen from Snow White and it will just look odd to have a purple dress and a short cape.

I did that last year and it looked good - I made sure the collar stood up really well and it made all the difference. I wish I could post a picture - I just tried and it gave me an error message saying the file was too big. I don't know how to make it smaller - I don't have photo editing software on my new computer yet.

I just had a thought - I wonder if I could make a Glowing Maleficent wand instead of the full length staff. I bet wands are allowed in. Or I could just carry Diablo - I have a black crow that makes noises and everything. LOL Time to put on the thinking cap.

When the rules are very clear such as this I would expect them to adhere to them without exception.

Honestly forget the security thing, a long cape is a huge hazard on rides. Keeping it at your waist (aka no longer than a backpack would hit probably) probably means it is safe from getting all caught up.

I think it's great they are still allowing costumes .... so a few conditions, no big deal to just work within the guidelines. Think of it as a deconstructed Elsa.

Thank you! I'll play around with the collar and hope for the best. We're going as a group (Snow White, Dwarfs and all), so I have to stick with it no matter what.
