MNSSHP- costume help?

I ordered Incredibles costumes for me and the kids (and our dog Tramp- but that's for Halloween.. not for the WDW trip LOL) online and just received them. I'm going to have to return them- these costumes are in no way going to be conducive to riding rides or even walking around! Too heavy/hot, the "boots" parts will make us trip and get filthy, etc.

Now I have no idea what we should dress up as! Atleast the kids- I don't have to wear a costume. I had only purchased me one since I could "match" them... it's not really necessary for me to dress up. LOL But I know the kids will want to. So now do I just go buy regular costumes that aren't Disney themed? They really wanted to be the Incredibles but it just won't work with going to the park that afternoon/night. Honestly wouldn't work for any Halloween activities we do (not much trick or treating- mostly just a few neighbors then we go to our church fall festival which includes games, jump things, etc.).

Any ideas for costumes that aren't hot/stuffy and are comfortable to wear?? My youngest is "always" a princess of some sort (Cinderella for a couple years, Tink one year, Snow White one year LOL) and has plenty to choose from this year too... but my son is usually something like spiderman and my oldest is "getting that age". Last year she went as a teenager at a sleepover (PJs that really looked like shirt/t-shirt... carrying teddy bear- that type of thing. She's not a teenager yet LOL)

help help help please! Even costumes bought at other stores are going to be the vinyl, hot, easy to rip/tear, not that comfortable- when going to MK! I guess it wouldn't be a good idea to just let them wear Disney pjs eh? LOL (son would probably love to wear his Power Rangers pjs LOL) He'd also love to dress like a pirate but he'd HAVE to have his sword and I'm not keen on him carrying the fake sword around all evening.

Ok. Here are some ideas

Space Invaders (this is what DH and I are going as this year)
I'm talking the retro 50's inspired fun and silly kind...
You can tailor this to your preferences, like my DH will wear black shorts and a black shirt. We will "jazz" up his costume with some silver flash from a silver cape I bought on ebay. Of course, antteneas are a must (I found some at my local costume shop) glow bracelets and/or necklaces and other glowing things also help with the space theme. Well, you get the idea.

Cats n Dogs ( a group costume of ours from before)
This is easy to do with normal clothes. Think animal colors (like a yellow cat or brown dog) For my DH costume we picked out a brown t-shirt and cargo pants (he should have worn shorts though). Then, I bought maybe a yard of that furry material in brown and I cut 2 oval shapes out (about the size to cover most of the shirt) and then I hand stitched it on. I don't sew - so it was big stiches and worked. It gave the impression of a fur costume in a little area. Then he had to have a tail. So we pinned on on his butt. LOL To top off the costume (he was a dog) he had dog ears, a snout and then some face paint. I went as a cat - and I wore mustard color shirt and pants, no fur, but with the tail, ears and makeup. It was great. I will try to post a picture for you. My dad, was animal control. But our main mistake was making his t-shirt say "eddie" on the front (and animal control logo on the back) but we should have put that part on the front so people would know.

Skeleton Crew
Again an easy one where you need black clothes, and you could get white (and glow in the dark) fabric paint and paint "bones" on. Or maybe you could cut out bones and iron them on.

You don't have to be Disney themed at all butthe Princess assortment doe make it easier.
Ceck out all the local Walmarts etc...Halloween stuff is popping up so you can get some costume/slash ideas there.

or better still go to the dollar store. They have crowns and capes and swords. Very cheap for Draculas, Princesses or Pirates.

The kids really wanted to dress up, but realized they wouldn't be running for fastpasses in anything other than regular clothes. I found a nice $5 ladies' cut t-shirt at Target with glittery pumpkins on them, and the kids got Paul Frank Halloween t-shirts (a bit more than $5, but cheaper than a costume!)

I was under the impression that they don't do Fastpass at MNSSHP. I may be wrong but, I thought I read that in the big MNSSHP thread. I've been a bit worried about the heat too but, my kids are wearing the typical Halloween jumper suits. We normally make our costumes but, the boys wanted to be Darth Maul and a Storm Trooper. I am just going to put them in underwear under the suits and bring a pair of shorts each. If they ditch the costumes, I guess we will need to buy tees (oh,no they will be so disapointed... ). I'm hoping they won't get too hot! They won't be dressing until after dinner at 1900 Parkfare (about 5:45 or so).

As for a costume that can be done up to be cool...a pirate or Tom Saywer and gang would be good. How about a lost boy or girl?!?!?

My little boy (DS 5) was Woody at last year's MNSSHP. Here in Maine it is cold on Halloween so he had the full Woddy outfit for that. For Florida, we put him in denim shorts and a yellow t-shirt. He then wore Woody's vest, hat, and belt. cute!

This year he is going to be Dash. Of course the big bulky costume is great for here but it just won't do in Florida. I bought him an Incredibles t -shirt at the Disney store. He will wear black shorts and possibly the eye mask (if they allow it at MNSSHP) I'll spike up his hair too. Simple but he hates being too hot and I don't want to hear any complaining that he is uncomfortable.

My DD3 is wearing a Disney Store Princess costume. Last year, Snow White. This year.... Cindy I think.

How about going as playing card like Alice in Wonderland. You could draw the card design on a white T-shirt and at the family could go as one suit, maybe a full house If you want to do the dog or cat idea our local Joann's had cute headband that had the ears and nose attached. My ds9 tried them on and they were cute.

Thank you all for the great ideas! I really appreciate it... I just don't have a great imagination and not an ounce of craftiness (atleast not thinking UP the ideas- the work I can do... once I am given ideas, KWIM? LOL) in my body. So I really appreciate the ideas!
I had already resorted to just buying $4 Halloween shirts at Target as a last resort- but I think maybe I can figure something out with the ideas here... I like all of them!

I especially like the DASH (shirt/shorts/eyemask) idea. Does anyone know if the black eye masks are allowed? It won't look quite the same without it but that's perfect for my son while at WDW. Actually the standard "costumes" are usually pretty warm even here at home (Texas)- so he could stay with that costume for actual Halloween night here- and still match Tramp in his Incredibles costume! LOL

I'll have to mull over these ideas and figure out what we'll do but thank you so much for giving me the ideas to mull over! I really appreciate it.

Do you have a Violet costume that would fit a 3.5 yo??? A few of my friends are on a mission to find one at a reasonable price.

We have a friend who lived in New Orleans and her dd just got her Violet costume and they didn't grab it on the way out when they evacuated. Poor Emily is so upset about her costume.

We have been looking everywhere for one, on ebay they are selling for over 100! That is just insane.
