MNSSHP 2015 - Be Prepared For Chaos

It seems the irony here is that the more crowded the party (from selling too many tickets) the more difficult it is to enforce the wristbands, which makes it more crowded, which makes it harder to enforce, which makes cheating more tempting, and so on in a vicious cycle.

We have tickets to attend the Oct. 6 party, but I won't hesitate to demand a refund if the party is as big a mess as the first one.

I agree fully, and will be doing the same.

I got here at 3.30 and they started to let party guests in at 3.45. It doesn't appear to be as crowded as Tuesday already. It is WAY hotter though so hopefully the crowds will stay away!

In the queue for Mine Train and it's broken down. The line is coming out of the entrance for Standby. Space had a 25 min wait, Splash 15 and BTMRR 5

Edit: It's now 6ish and it is feeling crowded but part of that is the heat. I just met Mickey and there is a lot more signage and CMs out than Tuesday. Lots of people are leaving.

Anyone else found it interesting that no one who had a 6pm or later ADR have as said they were promptly escorted out of the park when their meal finished after the party started (or have I just missed those posts?)

How is tonight's party shaping up so far?

So far I've seen a lot more CMs about and they've actually made park closing announcements which I'm pretty sure they didn't do on Tuesday (I never heard any). It still feels pretty busy but I'll check back in in half an hour or so and we should be able to see what the party crowds are like.

What if the park CLOSED at 6...meaning nobody without a park ticket gets in after 6, but the party doesn't START until 7pm? That would give them an hour to sweep the park of non-ticket holders?

That's how they did it when we went to our first MVMCP in 2005. We were allowed in before 6 (don't recall exactly what time). At 6, all people with wristbands were sent to Tomorrowland until 7 so the CMs could clear the park. At 7,the rest of the park reopened and the party started.

I'm not suggesting coralling folks in a part of the park while it's cleared out like they used to do. I'm just suggesting that park closes at 6pm and no party offerings begin until 7pm. However, exactly at 6pm anyone without a wristband is refused entrance to any land/ride/store/bathroom etc and sent or escorted to the exit. They could let party goers enter at whatever time Disney deems appropriate (4pm, 5pm, 6pm or even 7pm) doesn't matter to me. Sure i like getting in at 4pm as a party goer, but it isn't necessary AFAIC.

There are CMs checking for bands everywhere even into toilets. There have formed a line with rope across the top of main st/the Hub to stop anyone going any further.

There are already a lot of people lining Main Street curb and hub for the parade and first show. I'm currently sat in the west fp area because something knocked my back (don't know what) so I'm not wandering at the moment but I would guess the lands are looking much more party level crowds

Just sent Disney an email about the first party. This is what I told them (I would like to point out that before this night it had been an excellent trip with LOADS of pixie dust including a free BOG breakfast and a few free Anniversary desserts so there absolutely no issues except for the party):

Good Evening,

I just returned from a great five night trip to Walt Disney World. I was hoping that attending my first Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party would have been the highlight of the trip. Unfortunately, it was not.

My wife and I had five day park-hoppers along with our party tickets and we arrived at the Magic Kingdom around 2:00PM this past Tuesday. Crowds were low and we were having a great time. As time got closer to the party, crowds picked up, but we (as most people did) expected them to dissipate as the party started. Unfortunately, they did not.

In the five hours we were at Magic Kingdom during the actual party, we were only able to meet two sets of Characters, and ride three rides due to the insane crowd levels. While I understand this party sold out the day of, it did not help that Cast Members did not enforce the party exit policies. Cast Members were NOT making guests leave that did not have wrist bands for the party, and it appeared as though Disney woefully understaffed this event as there were many cast members who looked dazed and confused at best due to the crowds. While I understand the party sold out day-of, it is impossible to believe that Disney was not aware that the party was close to selling out, and that there was not an alternative staffing plan in place in case the party was busier than anticipated. Combined with the large number of comp tickets given to bloggers and media, it made for an extremely crowded and uncomfortable event. On top of this, no announcements were made (that I heard) saying the park was closing due to the party, and that all guests without tickets would need to leave.

The fact that Disney did nothing to work to remove guests who did not pay for the party is extremely frustrating to myself and many other paying patrons. It is not fair that between the two of us, my wife and I paid $136.00 for a pair of tickets and $138.00 for two seats at the Dessert Party (so a total of $274.00 plus tax) when so many people were simply allowed to stay in the park and nothing was done about it. In fact, had it not been for the Dessert Party, I have no doubt we would not have been able to find adequate viewing spaces for the parade and fireworks. It took us almost thirty minutes to get from Frontierland to Tomorrowland to check-in for the Dessert Party.

To be completely honest, I feel deceived by Disney, as this event was billed as a limited, hard-ticket event. In reality, people were allowed to do as they please, with only those of us who actually followed the rules and paid for the party being punished. This has severely affected my view of not only special ticketed events, but of the Disney company as a whole. To charge guests for what is supposed to be a "limited hard-ticket experience" and then to not enforce the rules by allowing any park patrons who refuse to leave to stay at the party not only devalues the experience for those of us who spent our hard-earned money on the admission to the party, but shows a lack of disrespect to the patrons who did pay. Why should we continue to pay the exorbitant prices that the Walt Disney Company charges, when we know if we just argue enough with cast members and work to skirt the rules, Disney will concede and allow people to break the rules? It is a shame that those of us following and playing by the rules are punished under the system Disney has of non-enforcement.

To conclude this email, I am asking for a refund of the cost of my party tickets, as what was promised by Disney was in no way what was delivered.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you regarding my above comments.

free BOG breakfast... nice

I've emailed them for a refund too. Curious to see what will come of it. The reports from tonight are making me really sad though. Wish we could have gone a different night and enjoyed it more.

free BOG breakfast... nice

Yes it was an extremely nice cast member. Not to go off topic but this is a place where Disney really shined on this trip. There was an issue with our magic bands the morning we checked in - they would not allow charging to the room. Turned out there was an issue with the reconciling of the system over at Kidani (but an AWESOME cast member at Guest Relations in MK was able to fix it for us - and even knew he had to bridge our ticket prices when we added a day).

Anyways, the people at BOG couldn't get it to work, so they called an IT supervisor (this was before our trip to Guest Relations). He couldn't get it to work either. So, he pulled out his Disney P-Card (or what I assume to be a Disney P-Card), ran it, and told us this one was on them.

I want to state that I DID NOT ask for nor expect this. I thought he was going to run it and take us to the cashier to reconcile it to our card, and I was fully prepared to do so (with my wallet and card out and in hand). However, he told us to have a nice day. It was part of a LOT of pixie dust on this trip for my wife and I. The only negative experience was the fiasco that was MNSSHP on Tuesday.

Isn't the first party or two also like Cast Member Previews where the CM gets to attend after that they are not allowed in the parties unless they buy a ticket?
Cast member's do not get in free. However, all of the parties in Sept are discounted to CMs.

Same difference....more cast members in September

And there were a LOT of CM's there. We were in line with a CM dressed as Merida. She said she was a photographer at MK but my wife saw her ID badge and it definitely said "character." We're pretty sure she was a "friend" of Merida or another face character.

Awesome letter! Please let us know the response.

We are going tonight. also went Tuesday. I'll write back how it compares
Ok y'all, it was better. Still like 4/5 deep for the first parade. The characters seemed shorter and the food was accessible. Still MUCH more crowed then years past, but not as insane as Tuesday. I don't believe tonight sold out. They were looking for wrist bands and had people set up checking when you switched from one land to another

You definitely sound like you received lots of pixie dust! We just got back from WDW last week celebrating our 20th wedding anniv. We did not receive any pixie dust...not even our room request was met...but we still had a wonderful time! Even with the nice dusting you received, I still would feel exactly as you do about the MNSSHP experience. I hope you get a refund, as well as anyone else who attended and requests one. It sounds like Disney really dropped the ball on this one. Good luck!

They have a fixed amount of tickets they sell. I don't know the number off the top of my head, but there is a cap to the number of tickets sold for the hard ticket parties.

I'm not suggesting coralling folks in a part of the park while it's cleared out like they used to do. I'm just suggesting that park closes at 6pm and no party offerings begin until 7pm. Sure i like getting in at 4pm as a party goer, but it isn't necessary AFAIC.

I think that hour between park close and party offerings starting would be key to eliminating those without tix.

I discussed this last year. It's a concept but not one Disney will go for. That hour is tons of $$$ lost. Also, until 6:59 guests can and are able to get in line for rides, regular meet and greets, make ADR's, etc. The park is advertised as open until 7pm. So if you pay the admission price to get in that day to the MK, you have every right to be there until 7pm.

Eliminating people without tickets will always be tough. Late ADR's (which again, a regular guest is entitled to make one for 6:50/6:55pm) will always happen. People try and cheat the system, it's just the way people are. We had folks around us last year that tried to pull the "we didn't know" card and were promptly escorted out.

As far as party offerings, we had our wristbands at 4pm last year and we were able to get our POTC Kingdom card and I got my pumpkin box pin set at 4:30pm. They checked our bands to make sure that we were party guests before we were given anything though. BTW, a CM in the Emporium actually directed me back to Frontierland to get my pin set, so it's not like I just wandered in, I asked and was told where to go... 2.5 hours before the party started.
