I am looking for advice from fellow Disers that have a favorite MN family friendly resort that they would recommend. I am originally from MN and spent many many years going to one resort and one resort only. Next summer (2007) my extended family of 20 is looking for a kid friendly resort to spend a week in late July or early August. We are looking to try something new!

Any recommendations from my fellow disers?

TIA!

Hi Eliza

Each year our family goes to Grandview Lodge just outside of Brainerd. They have lots of options for lodging but you might have a hard time getting all of you close together. We have had that problem when we tried to add a family and had to move from the cabins we used to stay at to another area in order to get four cabins close together. They have a great beach, indoor pool with slide and zero depth entry, lots of water sports and boats etc as well as a great kids program. (We have not used this but some other family members have.) Some nights they will have cookouts on the beach and even once in awhile fireworks. There is golf and tennis for the grownups.

Others that are popular with families are Breezy Point and Maddens. They are in the same basic area.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you Julie, I just requested some info from them. This looks like a good possibility!

Arrowwod Resort in Alexandria is really nice. They've got a really cool indoor waterpark, plus lots of great outdoors stuff - golf, horses, water stuff, tennis, etc. http://www.arrowwoodresort.com/

Do searches on the Brainerd area. There are so many resorts there that are family friendly, most have indoor water parks now. We have stayed at Arrowwood several times and one thing I really like about Arrowwood is their rooms are very large. Our kids LOVE their indoor waterpark and it has great seating for adults to sit and talk while the kids swim. They have lifeguards there too. They also have a large outdoor pool and the lake. They have free mini-golf.

Another suggestion would be Lutsen, north of Duluth. We stayed at http://www.caribouhighlands.com/ in their Poplar Ridge homes. These are side by side townhomes that sleep 12 or so people EACH. You could rent one entire building for your family. They have hot tubs, fireplaces, grills, full kitchens, 3 bathrooms. They are GREAT. There is a pool, kids club, golf, hiking, Lake Superior, etc. We had a blast here.
