We're going 11/30 as well and have a PS for LTT at 5:30 pm. It's just nice to be eating dinner during the time the park is being readied for the party. Otherwise, if you come early, you will be directed to one of the lands (last year it was Tomorrowland) to wait until the party begins at 7. Some of the rides and counter service restaurants in Tommorowland are open during this time, but we prefer the character dinner at LTT to get us in the mood and ready to go!
FWIW, until a couple of years ago, Disney CMs made sure everyone left the park when it closed to day guests. Only those who were eating a meal in one of the restaurants were allowed to remain while the park wa being readied for the party. You needed to use a day of park admission to have a PS at one of the restuarants for that time, though. Some people don't want to use a day of park admission for party day - they do something else in the morning and rest in the afternoon so as to be able to really enjy the late evening. (Those with young kids, especially might not last without a good nap). Anyway, when you finished your meal, you were allowd to remain in the restuarant until the party started if you had MVMCP tickets. That gave you a bit of a head start on the party - no need to walk down Main Steet in the initial crush of people. However, in some ways, that initial walk down Main Street with the snow is really special, so I never really minded entering with everyone else.
Anyway, about 2 years ago, Disney began allowing people with MVMCP tickets into the park with just their party ticket around 4 pm or so. Most believe it was to facilitate the security checks. So there is no need to have a reservation at a restaurant just to get in early - you just wait in Tomorrowland. We've done that and it's not a bad thing! However, we prefer using the "in between time" for a good meal. Helps us to last the whole evening and at least I know the kids will get something good in their stomachs, LOL!
Hope the history lesson helps!
Best wishes -
P.S. If you decide you want a PS at LTT, call asap. The best times (IMHO, those between 5:15 and 6:00) book up very quickly. Otherwise, you will have to wait until the 90 day mark and try for CP, the Castle or Tony's. But that will be almost as bad as calling for breakfast with the Princesses!
