MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Good morning...Sun is back and I am a happy Pony today!! It doesnt usually rain here like this, in fact we have been known to have droughts of several months, so all this rain lately is welcome in terms of "we need it", but I am definitely getting sick of the gloomy days...unfortunately it appears we are due for even more this weekend! YUK

Jocelyn - there is an airport about 45 minutes from us here, so get packed and we will get the runway cleared for you! Like Cindy says though, your place is on the list for MM reunions too! What fun for us all to be on the beach in our new, svelt, MM bodies!! LOL, I just had a vision of all of us on a sailboat...bet THAT would get ANY boat hung up on a sandbar!!:lmao:

Kathy - thanks for the cyber Monday link, heading off to go look and see what I can find there! DD wants a GPS for Christmas and I have NO IDEA whats a good one to get her...hard to believe that you hate shopping!! You are the shopping go-to girl!!

Cindy - So sorry this is such a tough month for you...isnt it amazing though how Faith will get us through? Remember that the Lord never gives us more burdens to carry then we are capable of handling. My Dad's birthday was Nov. 5, and even though he has been gone over 20 years it is still a melancholy day for Mom...BTW, I need your birthday for the list!!

Lisa and Jocelyn - I am posting the pumpkin bread recipe to both your e-mails before I leave this morning! If anyone else wants it, let me know, Im not going to post it here due to its total and complete lack of anything LEGAL for MM!! Just a great Christmas treat and gift!

OK folks, I need birthdays for Tom, Gena, SharronLee, Pam, SueAnn, Laura, Honeygram, Sandra and Sherry...where are you guys?

My Birthday is October 15th

Cindy - Hawaii sounds good to me too!

It sounds like your mom is an amazing lady. Was your DD ok?

We'll keep you and your job situation in our prayers.

It sounds like November is very bitter-sweet for you. I can understand that it could be a hard month for you emotionally.

I will rejoice in the day!! (It's finally sunny, so it should be easier.:goodvibes)

One of my normal Zumba nights is Thursday, will be tough this year with Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, but I found out at last night's class that our sub teaches a Tuesday night class in a near-by town (where my kids go to school), so I have already planned to attend Saturday, Monday, Tuesday this week. The two are very close together, but I figure it's better than skipping it altogether. The Tuesday will be my first "regular" Zumba class (not Gold), so we'll see how I do. One of the ladies I have met at Zumba has also agreed to go on Tuesday so I won't be the lone newbie who is clueless what this teacher is doing. In Gold our teacher spends time teaching us the moves before each song. I don't think they do that for regular Zumba, so cross your fingers I don't run into anyone.

Keep up the great work You will do great in a regular Zumba Class! It's gonna be rough for me too I teach on Thursday and Fridays so the week of Christmas and Newyears I will only have 2 classes instead of 4. Next Friday I still have a class so next week won't be to bad.

Good Morning Ladies and Tom,

I just wanted to drop in. Robin, my birthday is Sept 22. You can count me in on the MM retreat. Well, busy morning. I'll check back later.

Cindy - You and your Mom are in my prayers.

Laura - Good to hear you're feeling better.

Kathy - I'm glad your daughter's back in school and will continue to pray for your family.

Keep up the good work gang...we got to look good on Oprah!

Sandra

Beverly: Whoo Hoo on people noticing your weight loss!:woohoo: I hope your son doesn’t pull a stunt like mine did. All in all, he was seldom off course like that and it was a huge shock! Glad we all survived, lol!

Last night I remembered one of the cutest things he ever said. A short time after his Dad had answered his question about how babies are made with a perfunctory “The Daddy gives the Mommy a seed” I said to him, “How did you ever get to be so cute?” He answered, “I guess Daddy gave you a cute seed!” Bless his heart! Times that those overshadow the dumb teenaged decisions, lol!

Jocelyn: My husband is an Aries – April 17. Sounds like there is a movement for us all to camp out on the lounge chairs by your pool! I’m in!

Cindy: You continue to inspire me with your love of life and your depth of faith. You have absorbed the best of your Mom’s examples; your character is extraordinary. We are blessed to know you. I hope you can make some new memories this November, even as you never forget the loss you suffered.

Laura: If we plan a trip for spring, that should keep us on all track for the holidays because Cindy and Robin are going to be buff and Bev’s got that butt goin’ on so the rest of us better stay on plan, lol! Hope you continue to feel better! Can you find out what’s in the Jamba Juice and replicate the main cold busting ingredients without the juice?? It’s really fattening, sorry to say. I used to love them. When I start to get sick, I take two tinctures full of liquid Echinacea every two hours. It will turn it around quickly most of the time.

Robin: I didn’t like my Magellan GPS and exchanged it for a Garmin. You can get them at Costco, if you have one. OMG, thyroid really needs to be treated per symptoms as the tests are not very reliable. You need to read the chapters on thyroid in Dr. Teitelbaum’s book and the Appendix for Physicians. I dropped it off for my doc to read and then he called me and agreed with everything he read. I will copy it and mail it to you asap.

Do any of you have thyroid issues?

I'm not sleepy so was reading the Other Thread.

Here is a statement from Diane one of them recieved:
One thing that Diane did mention was if you get to end of eight weeks and have done everything according to plan and still not feel you have seen results to check your thyroid levels. I had mentioned I was on medication and she said any issues with my levels could affect weight loss.

They were also talking about raw cauliflower not being good for people with thyroid issues. Cooked is fine. Raw brocolli and spinach can also appearantly cause problems.

I know my doctor said my readings were low one time and then said they were fine the next time. I have blood work done in less than a month and she does everything so this might be interesting.

Think it is time to call it quits for the day. Anoter busy day tomorrow.

Jocelyn:

I have Graves Disease which is an autoimmune disease. It makes my thyroid "hyper" (which means that it works overtime). Although I haven't had my thyroid levels checked in awhile (I am over due ) but when I was getting them checked regularly (every month) I did a lot of research. From what I read, many people with low thyroid levels have been told by their doctors that their levels are "normal." Apparently, not all doctors test all of the factors. Many doctors rely just on the TSH reading. Per my Naturopathic Doctor, I had to ask my endocronologist to add the test for T3 and T4 levels and then I worked with my Naturopathic Doctor with the medication dosage (the endocronologist generally didn't look at the lab work when it came in to her office - when I first started taking the medication and before the Naturopathic Doc was helping I was on a high dose and it made me go way "hypo" - the endo didn't even notice and let me go that way for about six weeks....). Also - there have been some changes in opinion about what is "normal" and many doctors are not current on the research and continue to tell people that actually have low thyroid levels that they are "normal." If anyone thinks that their thyroid levels might be low, do some reading and then find a doctor that will do the right tests.....

Yeah....... I know they are fattening but the strange thing was nothing tasted good, if I ate turkey, cheese, carb style bread didn't matter it tasted like it was bad :confused3 The almonds and nuts made me cough, so I'm just a MM mess :scared: at the moment.

Whenever you guys have bloodwork done make sure you ask for a copy of it. I had a friend whose (I think it was her calcium levels) were going down and she had to have surgery on her thyroid because of it. Surgery could have been prevented if someone was watching and she could have asked questions. So I have been keeping copies ever since.

Since we seem to have several people ill, here is a copy of Diane's Blog this morning:

November 20, 2009.....Cold and Flu Season.....

Just a note about colds, the flu, and The Miracle.

-- It is always important to stay hydrated on our plan, but especially when you are under the weather. Regardless of the Step you are on, make sure to have a minimum of 64 ounces of water/decaf fluids. Remember that broth, vegetable soup prepared with neutral veggies, sugar free gelatin, herbal tea, water with lemon "counts" toward your fluid requirement.

--Check your over the counter cold/flu medications for hidden carbohydrates. Many preparations such as NyQuil, Triaminic, etc. contain added sugar. Be sure to ask your pharmacist or MD for his/her recommendation on sugar- free over the counter recommendations.

--If you are on Steps 2 or 3, being under the weather (as in lying in bed, sick, for 3 days or more) will require 10 days of Step 1 as soon as your are up and around. Stress hormones rise when you are ill and your pancreas will over-release insulin due to illness. Make sure to give your metabolism some R&R before returning to your pre-illness MM Step.

--Wash your hands frequently throughout the day and consider using hand sanitzer when you can't get to a sink. Never test your blood sugar without first washing your hands or using an alcohol wipe if you are away from a sink. NEVER lick your finger after testing to stop bleeding! (come on people, you know you've done this!!!).

--Good news? when your bloods sugar and insulin are in balance, your immunity is increased! Here's to fighting off the bugs this cold/flu season....Diane

Those of you on facebook will get a note about this, but I don't think everyone is on Facebook.

I got through the posts early, for me, this moring!!

Kathy - since when is 4:30 AM not EARLY???? I will be sound asleep. People go crazy here, too. The problem these days is that the stores are not bringing in a lot of merchandise due to the economy. I'm sure those that want special items that are popular like Beverly's item will have a hard time finding it.

Cindy - so sorry about your mother. She sounds like a real trooper. Will continue to pray for her. Our son would have been 39 on the 27th of this month. My mother's birthday was the 28th so Thanksgiving was always a great birthday party for both of them. I have a great deal of difficulty with the whole holiday season anymore. I actually try to ignore it, but my husband won't let me. I guess that is good. He puts up the tree and gets into the spirit of things.

We have one relative by marriage here and she is an oncology nurse. Since she will be working on Thanksgiving and friends are taking us out to dinner, I am doing turkey dinner tomorrow for the 3 of us.

Laura - hope that cold goes away soon! "Knock on wood" as the saying goes, we seem to be doing fine here and haven't noticed any of our friends ill, either. We are really good about washing our hands, though - especially after playing bridge with 40 people!!!

Would love to see all of you here. We could certainly take over the pool!!! It has been so windy I haven't been swimming outside, but the sun is really shining in right now, so might be able to today.

Lisa -sounds as if you are doing better today. How's the weather there?

Nell - are you OK? this morning/aftrnoon?

Have a great MM day.:):)

Lisa and Laura - I would love to have some info to take to my doc about thyroid...she did do the T3, T4 and said they were both within range too...but after my cousin said hers were normal and then started treatment she was like YOU HAVE TO DO THIS...she lost so much weight and felt WAY BETTER! I wouldnt jump on it so hard if I didnt have like every symptom listed for it!

Are you guys on thyroid meds? What if any differences did you have after going on meds?

Kate - will e-mail you the pumpkin bread recipe! ITs yummy

Lisa - I have been told the Garmin is the better GPS too, so am looking for a deal on that!

Jocelyn - thanks for posting that Diane info...you cant turn around here at Nationwide without tripping over a humongous bottle of hand sanitizer!! they are like totally paranoid about H1N1 and other stuff....things pass around quickly in a closed up office environment like ours...

Sandra - got the birthdate and put your reservation in for the Virginia retreat!!

Bev - congraatulations on your Zumba Graduation!! Im sure there will be plenty of others bumping into people and trying to get their bearings!!

Hi Joycelyn! I slept in this morning afternoon! I'm ok. I feel like I'm lost 100 pounds (and not just on my behind:rotfl:) I'm finally able to breathe and am catching up on sleep.

I was just ready all of you. Good morning everyone! Yurt camping is wonderful, but doesn't keep out mosquitoes. We need to find out how Virginia is on biting insects before we decide on yurts!

I don't think I could get to Hawaii anytime soon. After I'm through school perhaps, or if Laura is planning on her husband flying her f I could hitch a ride.:lmao:

No bugs for me! Robin - how are you on bugs? Do I need to revise the plan from yurts to something else? Maybe just a bunch of big RV's? I like my creature comforts like hot water, shower, toilet, bed, etc.....

I'm cracking up that you don't think 4:30 is "super early." That's super-de-dooper early for me.

Actually, before Mike got laid off, I had to get up at 4 each morning. It was sort of nice in the way that after he left for work, I got my laundry done, some cleaning and what not before the kids got up for school. I got a lot done in those early mornings.
Now my eyes start to pop open around 5.

Laura - I knw you're here! When is your birthday? New list and all...glad you are feeling at least a little better!!

Bev - I have been getting thyroid panels for the past 5 years, thinking that might be part of my problem...nope, everything was normal every time...I know that you do have to ask for the more detailed panel to be done as there are several different levels they can test...have a cousin who tested normal on the main tests they do, but I think its lilke a T4 or something else that they check, and they caught abnormal reading for her there...she went on meds and lost a ton of weight without even trying...she keeps telling me that even women with normal readings should be treated if they have all the sympoms of thyroid, which I do, but my doc refuses to treat unless she sees something that indicates the need...so no thyroid meds for me...Im still wondering about it though due to my slow losses on MM

Robin, this is actually addressed in the Fatigued book Lisa mentioned that we got. If I remember right, he said that some people are unable to have the T4 turn into T3, and some people are unable to make either the T3 or T4. I'd have to find it in the book to be sure if I'm thinking right, but it had something to do with the T3 and 4. He said even if your blood work comes back ok, your thyroid can still be messed up.

Good afternoon all. Not much going on here. Feeling a bit tired, so I'm thinking a nap is in order. Then we will go uptown as tonight is "light up night." The parade starts at 7, but they are having some kind of "It's a Wonderful Life" thing going on around 6. To be honest, I never was much of a Jimmy Stewart fan. Figure that one out LOL. Living in his hometown!! They had Rich Little do his impression of Jimmy Stewart, and all the cross walks now have him telling you to cross instead of an automated voice. Kind of creeped me out the first time I heard it.
Well, off to nap land. I'll catch up later with all the rest of my responses.
Robin, when you have time, can you email the recipe to me? The one couple I work for, I always make them pumpkin rolls, and I just found out that the man loves them. So I'm thinking he may like the pumpkin bread also. He has to have some surgery on Wednesday, so I want to take it Monday so he can enjoy it. I told his wife today I'll make a couple extra, and she can freeze them. So, next week will be even more hectic for me, as I always "house sit" and let the dogs out and such when they aren't home. He will be hospitalized for about 3 days.
Ok, now for that nap LOL

Nell - no mosquito or biting insect problems here so pack and get ready!! Did I miss something? Were you having trouble breathing? OMG or just too busy to breathe?

I want to go home...I am NOT having fun here today...it is just so slow before the holidays...we spend our day and evening trying to stay awake!!! I guess I will go do some Cyber Monday online shopping investigation...see what deals I can come up with! Nothing like some of you seem to find, Im sure!!

No, no trouble breathing. You know when your really worried and overwhelmed and it feels like your always holding your breath and waiting for the other shoe to drop? That feeling is mostly gone for me right now.

Hey Kate - this is me and bugs...:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

Kathy - will e-mail that recipe to you now...let me know how he likes it!! I guess I will have to get that book now...whats the name and where do I get it? I need to be armed with info to show the doc.... Have a nice nap

Nell - glad you are breathing! LOL, I assume Marti had good news then? Let me know!!
