MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

I'm still working on my tree slowly. I and the ladder went over last night. I thought I was on the bottom rung and I wasn't when I stepped down. Near disaster!

:scared1: Oh Lisa, I'm so glad you weren't hurt! You need a shorter tree or a sturdier ladder  Or why don't you leave the upper branches to your 6'6" hubby. Nevermind, If he's like mine, he doesn't do the tree. He knows how picky I am

J-P is in bed now. He leaves today at 5:10 pm, but he'll be back in three weeks. We had such a nice visit. He spent a lot of time with my parents and went out to see his friends last night. No girls came around this time!:rotfl: We're hoping to go for a walk around the lake before he has to pack. Sad! No toooooo bad though. I'm so glad you got to got to the beach and the farmers market with Chloe. She's had to adapt a lot in the last few months! It will get easier and all of the not-so-perfect scenarios will serve to help her adapt to situations later in life. J-P has had about 16 roommates over the 5 years - sometimes one at a time and sometimes 3. He's sure learned a lot about what he wants and doesn't want, lol! I think it will help him be a better husband someday to learn to adapt to a lot of different people. His business is in an exciting phase - he has a partner now and they are pitching to big advertising agencies in New York and LA, as well as Portland. It's a beautiful day today! I'm still working on my tree slowly. I and the ladder went over last night. I thought I was on the bottom rung and I wasn't when I stepped down. Near disaster!

Lisa - you will have to provide a picture of your beautiful tree when it is done! I am so glad that you had a good visit with J-P. That is so exciting about his business. Please keep us posted.

I so well remember the roommate issues. Demi - my 21 year old, is moving again! She moved to San Francisco a little over three years ago. This will be the fourth move! Good thing she is young. I generally help by making one load with her - she puts all the fragile things in my car and doesn't have to pack them too, too carefully. And, I get a little exercise because what house in San Francisco doesn' t have stairs (at least the ones that she has lived in)?

Morning all, checking in quickly as I got to spend 30 minutes talking with Ken this morning and that is a rare treat these days!

I will catch up with you later, have to go feed the bad ponies and get ready for work! Love you guys!!

That is so nice that you got to start your week with a call from Ken!

I hope you gave those ponies another lecture about staying where they are supposed to be!

Hi Kate. I sooo remember helping with moves. When my daughter first got married her hubby was in the Navy. Every time they had to move he was out to sea on a cruise. Of course Dad and Mom were there to help. I'd be more than happy to help her move again if she was moving back from North Carolina

Still feeling pretty yucky today. My throat feels like I swallowed fire and my head is full of fluff. I'm hoping I'm done with the chills part...that was truly horrendous. At least I can sort of function today...ran the dishwasher that was full of things from Thanksgiving. That's probably the extent of my accomplishments for the day as this swine flu has kind of knocked me for a loop. Plus the house is WAY TOO QUIET after all the kids have gone back to their own lives here or away at school. I too am looking forward to the Christmas holidays and having them gathered around me again.

From what little I've been able to read, it sounds like everyone's okay. Robin, that must have been scary having the ponies out and near a road. I know that I have stopped several times on these back country roads and helped roundup a horse that has gotten loose. It's always tricky to not spook them further and have them take off. Glad it turned out alright for you.

Have a great day

Carol

Yep, Barb! You answered your own question, lol! I was on the step ladder with the shelf because it's lighter and get around the tree. Yikes! The chiro I used to go to calls me "She That Falls" so that should tell the tale.

We are so much alike! We both drove up to Portland for 4 days last time J-P moved. I cleaned the entire time while they packed the truck. He was very verbal about how overwhelming it would have been to do it alone. Now, he's thinking of buying a house so I'll be up and back a lot I think this winter. I suppose I can force myself to get on the plane, lol!:woohoo:

Carol: Bless your heart! What a rough ordeal! Get plenty of rest and take your time getting well. Do you have any good old Christmas movies to watch or a good chick flick? Tuck up in a cozy blankie and check in with us as you can.:flower3:

Lisa, I was thinking of you and your hubby this morning. He is so big, I wonder if he's eating enough protein and calories? Too little of either could stall weight loss..I would guess he needs quite a few calories just to maintain his weight. I used to know how many grams of protein are recommended by weight/height but forget now. I think you could google it to find out. Just a thought if he is concerned that it's going too slow.

How to Calculate Your Protein Needs:

1. Weight in pounds divided by 2.2 = weight in kg
2. Weight in kg x 0.8-1.8 gm/kg = protein gm.

Use a lower number if you are in good health and are sedentary (i.e., 0.8). Use a higher number (between 1 and 1.8) if you are under stress, are pregnant, are recovering from an illness, or if you are involved in consistent and intense weight or endurance training.

Example: 154 lb male who is a regular exerciser and lifts weights
154 lbs/2.2 = 70kg
70kg x 1.5 = 105 gm protein/day

I'm so sorry you're still so sick! What can you do for swine flu? Do you just treat it like a cold? Rest, liquids etc..Please take care and see a Dr. if things get any worse

I can help with that move too! We can can take a side-trip to Robin's house.

I am sure you could force yourself to have a bite (just one) of bread pudding too! I thought about you on Thanksgiving. Demi made pumkin bread and that she used it to make bread pudding! It was a big hit. I had a bite or two (zap me) and can vouch for how yummy it was. She is thinking of making one with gingerbread for Christmas. Everyone is already drooling.

That is exciting about J-P buying a house! I am sure he will let you help with organizing and decorating it. I think that would take at least three or four trips to Portland!

Quick check in since its fairly busy today...OK, so I am cleaning the house again since Kate and Barb are on their way here from North Carolina!! YAY! Where in NC is she located? If you are ver visiting there I would definitely meet you for lunch!!

Carol - ugh, feeling a little better I see, but definitely still sick...hoping tomorrow will find you even better!

Lisa - OMG hope you didnt hurt yourself in the fall! I refuse to even get on the second step of a ladder....its like my balance goes straight out the window!! If I liked heights I would have been a fireman instead of a cop! LOL

She's in Carthage, near Southern Pines, about an hour south of Raleigh. Right in the middle of all the golf courses. Not much to do but golf. We are going to try to get out to see her next summer. Where would be a good place to meet? :woohoo:

I would have probably had a bite, too, Kate! Yum! I love the gingerbread idea for Christmas! J-P's contribution is going to be chocolate pie from Marie Callendar's, lol! That's ok! Dad says he is bringing Cracker Jacks. I told Mom she isn't allowed to make his dish for him. It will be so much fun to see what we pull together.

J-P will have two roommates for the time being if he buys a house. Two guys that work hard and are responsible, so that's good. We're going to crunch numbers in December and see if he feels comfortable. He's also got to buy his own health insurance in March, so that's scary. Anyone have any advice on that front? We currently have Blue Cross PPO so kinda spoiled.

Barb: You are so sweet to ask about Tom and protein and calories. That wouldn't be his problem, lol! Last night for seconds he had a plate of turkey and gravy - well, maybe half a plate. His Mom nearly starved him when he was growing and an athlete so he has issues with not being allowed to eat enough. As soon as he got his own money, he began to over eat. This WOE is good for him because there isn't measuring of many things and he can make sure he has plenty of snacks and enough to eat. Poor guy, he says he's over his childhood, but I know he isn't. His Mom was stingy and actually hid food from her kids. He doesn't help me with the tree because his parents always fought over their tree. Even though I try to make it pleasant, he stays away. He does get the boxes for me and today he thanked me for the pretty tree.

I am not sure any of us ever get over our childhood. Sounds like he had a rough time and food is a huge control issue. I am so glad that this WOE allows him whatever portions he feels he needs.

Lisa - I hope you are okay after your fall. I need to think about getting the tree from my mom's so we can get going on the decorating.

Robin - congrats on the chance to talk to Ken. I joke about never seeing or talking to my DH due to his hours, but I can't imagine if I really weren't able to do it. :sad2:

Carol - sorry you are still  and hope you start feeling better soon.

Oh my gosh, it's hard to imagine a Mom who doesn't want to OVER feed her kids. I'm so happy Tom found you and this WOE
