MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

When I just checked my e-mail, Diane had replied last night about 10:30. It got downloaded to my computer at home, so I missed it at the office today.

Here is her response to my questions:

Nice to hear from you. Please also see www.themetabolismmiracle.com blog page for information on the handful of things that can cause slower than anticipated fat loss:

On Step 1:
-carb sneaking in
- carb stacking to amounts over 5 grams of carb (using 5x5 carbs too close to each other)
-not enough exercise
-undertreated thyroid (if you are hypothyroid)
-very high cholesterol or blood sugar going into the program.

On Step 2:
-eating more carb than 11-20 grams at a meal/snack
-eating less carb than 11-20 grams at a meal/snack
-skipping 11-20 grams at snack when meals exceed 5 hours
-exercising in the morning without first taking an 11-20 carb serving
-undertreated thyroid (if you are hypothyroid)
-higher level of stress
-higher level of pain
-illness over 3 days
Review and see if any or several apply to you as they are the only things that can slow fat loss up!

I replied that I didn't feel that I had any of these issues and asked if I should get bloodwork done. She answered very quickly.

On Step 2, if you are under stress, sick, or in pain...there will be a stop in weight loss without a 10 day return to Step 1. The blood tests: thyroid panel, cortisol, fasting insulin. If you get them done, have them done fasting and please let me know the results! Diane

My only question is I didn't lose much on Step 1 either. I think I will call the Dr. and ask for bloodwork before I go back to Step 1.

What do you all think?

Did you have bloodwork done at the end of step1 ? Were you having any health issues or were you on medication before starting step1? If you have not had bloodwork done and have no known medical issues, I think it would be very helpful to get some bloodwork done. You know that you have done the program right so there should be another reason for your very slow loss.

Medical Update.

Had yet another ultrasound for the lump I have in my right breast.

For the first time ever, the radiologist actually came in to talk to me when it was done.

He said that it appeared the hematoma had resolved itself, but there was still a lump present. He said that the lump appears to be fluid filled, but there were some flecks (or something like that) in there.

So, on Monday at 10:00 a.m. I am scheduled for an ultrasound guided biopsy of the lump. So, please keep her (my right breast) in your prayers. I have a very good friend who went through this last week (she is 40), and her mother died of breast cancer at 47. Luckily her aspiration came out fine, but whoever it was who looked at the fluid was mad they didn't take a tissue sample. I know they do plan to take a tissue sample from me as well as an aspiration if they can get any fluid. I am now 46, so that is way too close to her mom's 47.

So, please add me to your prayer lists, I'll take all the help I can get.

I'm off to watch Top Chef. I'll see you tomorrow.

You are staying on my prayer list for sure

Beverly,

I am so sorry you are having to go through all the testing. The blessing, though, is that they are testing and using more tests to determine if there is a problem. Hugs:hug: and prayers for a benign outcome.

Robin - what a sweet guy you have.:lovestruc I'm not sure there are many like him out there although it seems as if several of us have hubbys that fit his mold, too. Mine is a real sweetheart and I am thankful every day for him.

Speaking of him - he just left on his 2 hour walk to the top of Diamond Head and back. It is quite warm today so he waited until later in the day. I spent most of my day at the pool and was sitting in a nice breeze, but it seems to have departed us for a while. I now have to decide what to make for dinner. I think there is some taco meat in the freezer that will be easy to heat up and make a salad with. The nice thing about the warmer weather is we do not require comfort food for cold days!!

I keep looking for the new First Magazine, but it has not made it to the Isalnds yet although it sounds as if the article has some major discrepancies in it.

I went to her blog looking for something else last night and realized I had never read the whole blog. She talks about chronic pain more than I realized and the insulin that is being secreted all the time. I am wondering if that is why the scale has not really moved at all. I know I have my fasting glucose numbers on my computer. I will have to look and see if they have gone up the couple of years.

I found the meat in the freezer so it is out and I am set for tonight!!

Good Night to those on the East Coast - time for bed!!!

I just realized that it is less than a month until Thanksgiving and less than 2 months until Christmas - where has the year gone??? I spend a lot of my time lately here:surfweb::lmao:

Love all of you:love:

I was just reading another thread on Disney that caught my eye and saw a name I have been seeing on Diane's thread - I did a double take. Hopefully she doesn't peruse other threads too much. I don't recognize her from the original thread so she might not put names together. I don't post on the new site, but sometimes like to see the disasters that are occuring there!!

These forums seem so large, but in reality they aren't.

Well, it's midnight! It's time for tired Nell's to hit the hay! Good night everyone! Remember you are loved! :grouphug:

1am...OMG, Back from the gym, talked with Ken online, checking in here and then going to bed!! YAWN

Bev - Well, sounds like SOME news is positive and our prayers will continue to take you and Miss ****ie through the next round as well...I refuse to believe in any other outcome for you! A destination wedding? WOW, never thought of that...but I love Disney too, although my 16 times probably will never stack up to yours!! LOL, Ok so you are officially nominated as Wedding Planner!!! Keep in mind my LOVE for the Grand Floridian!!!:cool2:

DRAT, I missed Top Chef...I LOVE that show!!

Nell - I think I am going to use the individual packages of oatmeal...I know its more expensive, but I think each one is 1/2 cup serving...I am hopeless at figuring out how to make the right amount any other way!

Barb - thanks, I needed that! He is definitely the most wonderful and romantic man and I am so grateful for him!!!

Jocelyn - if you are still having troubles getting the list maybe I will have Nell send it to me, and then I will try to send it to you? Or maybe I will just try to send you the one I already have tomorrow when I get up!! We will figure this out and get you on the DARN LIST!!!

OK, so I am off to bed...WAY LATE and Pony is about shot!!

Love you guys!!

Natalie - sorry missed your post! We have been dating less than a year, but things just fit so perfectly into place that it wasnt long before we both realized we were madly in love! We figure that at our ages, we are past the point of needing to date for 5 years before deciding to marry!! But believe me, there will not be a wedding anytime inthe NEAR future!! Maybe a year from now!

Oh Bev - I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of this. You sound really good and I hope you stay positive. Just another little path in your journey here. You are definitely in my prayers and so is your friend. My mom is still not in remission, but boy is she a pistol. 81 and kicking for her love of life. She's had it 2x so here's a positive story. Not all cancer patients go to heaven early in life. I think you have a lot more to do here on earth (keeping us company) so keep that in mind and know that God has everything under control.

Love you!

Bev - I didnt' lose ANY weight in Step 1 and am still at a steady 167 (I go up and down). I'm going to schedule a doctor's appt too, my problem is I don't have a doctor here and need to find one I can trust and be comfortable with.

You definitely should do it.

Good Morning Cindy! Looks like its just you and me awake and on the move again!!

I was thinking about you and Bev and your scales not moving much...are you guys REALLY and TRULY getting your exercise in? And I DO mean getting 30 minutes minimum 5 days a week, and ABOVE the normal daily routine ?? I decided to read MM on the treadmill last night, and it really hit home for me how VERY IMPORTANT the exercise thing is! I re-read from step 2, all the way through, (skipped step 3) and I guess I was looking for places where I might not be doing the plan exactly as Diane recommends...and EVERY time I re-read like that I seem to get another AHA moment...I know that I have not been doing the green tea thing and I intend to rectify that this weekend when I go shopping...seems like she STRONGLY recommends that too. Just wondered if really applying yourselves to the exercise thing might help move things? I DO know that getting the bloodwork done is VERY important, since there are so many underlying things that can affect losses too. I have to say that MOST of the improvements I have seen show up in my bloodwork!! JMHO

And according to my trainer, even the exercise we are doing has to be "changed up" fairly often or your body just gets used to that as its normal routine too...I do treadmill 6 days a week, but some days 30 minutes, some days 45 minutes, and I change up the speed, incline, etc too. Im pretty sure that the weight training doesnt really do much for weight loss, as it is not really cardio, but I do know that it will be toning the muscles so they will look better when the flab starts melting off and they can be seen again!! Plus I already feel so much stronger again, and that gives me a certain "euphoria" by the end of the workout too!

Diane responded twice to my report of blood sugar readings and has definitely booted me back to step 2 as of Sunday...

Lisa - I also wrote back and asked her SPECIFICALLY about my plan to have an 11-20 at 10:30 before my workout, and then another at 3:30am, with a bedtime snack at 1am that did NOT include another 11-20, and she said I do NOt need the one at bedtime if I am definitely getting the one at 3:30...I think the idea of another 11-20 at bedtime would only count if I was not DEFINITELY getting the one in at 3:30...but since I set my alarm and wake myself up EVERY morning at 3:30am, that will work!

I dont know how to post her responses in color...she responds to me with her answers in red!

Do I need to include another 11-20 at my bedtime snack if I just had one at 10:30 and will have another at 3:30am? Nope, not as long as you take the 3:30AM snack

She also sends along this message for those of us hiding here at Disboards!!

I do truly understand breaking away and hanging with your "friends" who share your lifestyle plan and also enjoy sharing your lives. Mum is the word.....Always stop by and ask whatever you need....you guys hold a special place in my heart! PS.....your plan looks perfecto...let me know how you are doing, ok? Tell everyone I said hi, too.....xo Diane

Right now I am doing 1 hour of Zumba 3 days a week, so I do need to kick in gear 2 more days a week. I haven't been drinking the green tea either. I just went cold turkey on my diet soda yesterday to see if that helps, so today it is strictly water for me. I do have some green tea bags at home, so I'll give it a try this weekend.

Hi Bev!! I know how hard it is to get the exercise in...I was a total slug for most of step 1...lucky to get in the treadclimber 2-3 days a week. I think its GREAT that you are doing the Zumba now!! Maybe a walk on the other two days?? And giving up the diet soda can only be a GOOD thing!! I seriously drink NOTHING but water...and 3-4 days a week I have one decaf coffee at work...Diane DID say that you can count decaf as part of your 64 ounces of water, we just cant count anything with caffeine. I also recently stopped adding 2 tbsp half and half and started using a touch of vanilla atkins shake instead! But during last nights re-read, I noticed that she also says that the green tea has better results if it is caffeinated! So I guess if we drink the caffeinated green tea, we cant count that towards our water? Hmmmm, not sure quite what to do on that one...maybe the others have an opinion on that for us?

No, I have not been getting in my 30 minutes lately. I was so good about it on Step 1, but within the last couple weeks I have not been getting in the exercise. My DH just put up our chin up bars last night and we are planning on starting the P90X on Monday. He has a long 12 hour day weekend this weekend and doesn't want to start this exercise plan on days where he is tired. I have been walking a little but not as much as I should. I completely believe that after Monday, I will see the scales move. I know that for me, unless I'm doing an intense exercise plan, I don't lose AT ALL!! But on Step, yes I was exercising abundantly!!! I think that's why I was so frustrated.

On the Green Tea, it's amazing, I have 3 different kinds of green tea in my cupboard, but don't drink it. I will try to get that in too. I love you Pony! You are such a shining star for me and I love the encouragement we get here.

Ok here is my wonders for the day... well, at least at this moment :rotfl:

My DH has weighed up yes we know not to but he did anyways... Now for starters he has lost 2 pant sizes, so I know he is loosing inches, he said he is up 4 lbs from his start weight????:scared1: How is this possible?? I can see a difference and yet he says he is up! He really needs to loose weight for his health, I am afraid of him having a heart attack! So here is my wonders... is it possible? I was thinking maybe he looked at the scale wrong when he first weighed up or something? Now, he does drink some water, but I do not see him exercising much and I know that IS important, but he is going outside and doing little things (which is somewhat different) like playing with son,(football passing) and such, just to give an example but this isn't ever day, he is a hard one to motivate.
I was just wondering what you all thought of this... I have not weighed up yet trying to be good :dance3: but, that scale keeps calling my name:p

And I haven't been drinking the green tea either does it really make that much difference?

Pam: Congratz on your new arrival!! I just love those gifts from heaven:littleangel:

Robin: you are so lucky to have found him :woohoo: on the promise ring!

Beverly: My prayers are still with you ;)

Ok, will be checking in later! :3dglasses

Dear Ones, I was pooped last night and missed chatting with you.

Beverly: I am so very sorry that you have to endure the waiting that goes along with such a test. I just know you will be fine and we will all be here praying for a good outcome.

Robin: I want you to listen very carefully to what I have to say about this marriage idea! I feel very strongly about this.

You can't get married until we are all skinny! We want to look great in the pictures! It'll take us about a year, so that's perfect timing.:lmao::lmao::lmao::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::banana:

I have just started to do my dvd's (zumba) WOW it is really hard to make it all the way through! So if we do zumba do we need to do something else with it?? Change it up someone said(think it was Pony)??

Where is everybody today!!?? I am heading off to drop my car off for service before I go to work, so I will catch you guys later on!

Cindy - I love you too Girl!! I was just throwing that all out there after reading the book again last night. Apparently the green tea has not only the antioxidants, but also some fat-burning capabilities as well...and I am ALL ABOUT burning the fat! In fact if my belly and hips dont start to deflate sometime soon, I might just Light them on fire!! Now THAT will literally be "FAT-BURNING"!!!:lmao::rotfl:

Melanie: All I can do is compare to my husband. He can literally change the scale by 8 lbs. in a day. So depending on whether your husband was on an up day or a down day when he first weighed, etc. you can't judge by this one weigh in. I think you really have to go by the size. Precursor for heart attack is the waist measurement and it sounds like his has gone way down so I would be very encouraged by that.

A small thought - maybe he could cut down on sodium. He might be holding a lot of water. And the green tea does rev up your metabolism, plus it is a fantastic anti-oxidant.

Good Morning All, I've finally caught up with the post from yesterday. :goodvibes

Bev - Please know I will contine to keep you in my prayers.

Congrats to Pony! I know you're just beaming about getting that promise ring. You've got a romantic there girl...hold on tight! :lovestruc

:yay: Glad to hear that some will be returning to step 2....since I mentioned step 2, I would like to share my progress with you all. I weighed and measured yesterday and I've lost 12 pounds and 31.25 inches since starting this wol. I'm really thrilled, but being honest I would liked to have had more weightloss, but being real......I haven't stuck to the plan 100% either. I've had some setbacks with vacation, as well as trial and error with the transition. Slow and steady will win this race and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it. :woohoo:

If I missed anyone's post, I apologize and I'll try and do better about checking in. Have a great MM day. ;)
