MLB Postseason Thread

I'm hoping for a Cardinals-Tigers World Series.

That way, the Cards can get a little revenge on Detroit for stealing the Series from them in '68.

Go CARDS!

I think the media goes with the basic assumption that if you broadcast the teams from the largest markets (NY, LA, Chicago) on primetime, you'll get better ratings.

I agree, in a way, with putting the Yankees on primetime whenever they're playing. While I'm no fan myself, they're a team that does have a national following. I know numerous Yankee fans in various cites around the US, many of which have never stepped foot in NYC. And, for that matter, the rest of the country are pretty much "Yankee haters", so they tune in to see if the Yanks will lose.

I don't see the same thing when it comes to the Mets. It seems that most Mets fans are NYC natives without the national following that the Yankees have. And there's certainly not the hatred for the Mets that the Yankees have. So I'll be interested to see if the ratings are better for the NL games over the AL games, simply because it's larger markets playing.

You are so right about the Yanks everyone has opinion on them. And I am just crying sour grapes. We have been in the NCLS for 3 years straight and we have been in the post season 6 out of the last 7 years. Yet we are 3rd in line for a primetime spot. :confused3

It seems like the Cards :lovestruc get the short end of the media stick sometimes.

Okay my pity party is over. ;)

You have got that wrong just a bit. The Cards get the short end of the media stick ALL the time. :rotfl2: So do the Rams. The year we won the Super Bowl we were not on Monday Night Football one time. They did put us on the next year. I guess it would have looked bad not to put the Super Bowl winners on at least once. :rotfl2:

Most people on the east and west coast think St. Louis is a cow town with corn stalks and cow manure. They have no idea this a large metropolitan area with a couple million people. :rolleyes1

Well, to be fair, the reason the Rams weren't on MNF the year they won the Superbowl was because they were 4-12 the year before, and the TV execs probably figured they were doing everyone a favor by sparing us the vision of that trainwreck of a team on primetime TV. ;) Random aside: I was doing some training for work in Middletown, VA, early on in the SB-winning season and went home for the weekend after a week of training. Our trainer asked us if we'd mind picking up a Rams hat for his grandson, and we all said, "Why? Do you want him to get beaten up at recess?" :rotfl: I've never been happier to eat crow than I was after that season, though!

Back to MLB--it was more than a little ridiculous to make everyone wait till after all of the games on Sat. to determine when the Cards would play on Sunday. I'd think that the fact that they'd (potentially) be qualifying for their 3rd NLCS in a row would count for something. :furious:

Oh I know...the Rams were lousy the year before. It just makes me mad so I vent about it.

DH was having a fit not knowing when the Cards were going to be on Sunday. He is another one that throws a tantrum about the media and their east coast bias. He said you would think having probably the best player in the major leagues right now would help too. At least the media can't deny Alberts stats. The year Mark McGwire hit 70 home runs I overheard someone say it was a shame he played for such a no name team as the Cardinals. Obviously not a Cardinals fan. We get no respect..... :sad2:

I didnt' have a babysitter until 3 o'clock because my babysitter for the noon time frame couldn't do a late game it was so frustrating to not know. I would have cried if I couldn't have gone....

I hope the sun comes out and your DH has fun... but not a lot of fun since I am rooting for the opposing team... just a little fun to keep the game exciting but if he is having a great night I won't be. :goodvibes

I am trying to beg, borrow or steal tickets for Saturday or Sunday... no such luck yet. :sad2:

Another Tigers win.....no team that won the first 2 on the road has lost.

Mets-Cards rained out. Now Carpenter can be moved up.

How's the weather in your neck of the woods? (That is my best Al Roker impression)

Will we have a ball game tonight?

I hope so! I'm actually considering skipping the Blues' home opener to watch the Cards game, which is practically blasphemy. ;)
