My post copied from another thread:

So many Jealous Yankee haters out there! Not speaking directly to this threads alone..I've have seen other threads as well.

The haters always fall back on the salaries. FYI-The Mets have a significant payroll too, as do the BoSox and the Angels. IT Alwasy seems to be these teams fans that talk the most "payroll" smack.

This year it's garbage anyway b/c alot of the big $$ players were out half the season anyway. And A-Rod was relatively useless for a chunk of the season too. We got here with quite a few newbies. Cabrera, Wang (semi rookie), Cano...

So PLEASE w/the payroll envy.

:thumbsup2 That's the only "comeback" they have. Let them be jealous  ....we all know who's won it 26 times. :cheer2:

Mets fan here. I have never complained about the Yankee payroll, in fact, I have often defended them. Steinbrenner is doing what any good business man does--putting the profits back into the business. And don't forget: many of the 1996 team were indeed home grown. And their biggest stars are: Jeter, Rivera, Posada. Pettitte was home grown. But be honest when you talk about this issue: Twins fans, Marlin fans, most small market teams cannot plug holes by going out & out bidding other teams. The Yanks, Mets & Red Sox can do that.

I did not think the Mets would go up 2-0 on the Dodgers.
I'm not totally surprised. The really good teams rise to the occasion in the postseason and the Mets are a good "team." I'm pulling for the Mets to make it to the WS.

OTOH, I've got a problem with the Newsday cover in your signature for today. No question, Glavine was excellent in yesterday's game but that headline??? Those words belong to ONLY one Mets' pitcher named Tom. (I was a big Seaver fan. ;) )

On to my Yanks...
If Alex Rodriguez does not have a HUGE game tonight against Kenny Rogers, whom he has basically OWNED over the years (not to mention that Kenny flat out stinks in the postseason), I don't think he'll EVER snap out of this offensive funk. I have been a Rodriguez defender all season against the legions of booing Yankees' "fans", but enough is enough. This is exactly what we got him for; before coming to the Yankees he had some HUGE postseason numbers (with the Mariners). It's gotten to the point where the opposition will pitch around Giambi to get to Rodriguez.

I'm hoping that Randy Johnson's back holds up too. I DO think that the Yankees will win tonight though because I think they'll go to town on Kenny Rogers. As long as they win tonight, I'll feel a bit more comfortable with the promise of a game 5 in Yankee Stadium with Chien Ming Wang on the mound.

Oakland leads the Twins 1-0 right now on an Eric Chavez home run. Brad Radke is actually pitching much better than I thought was possible considering his injury. He's really a warrior.

Lisa, I guess I'm coming at it as a Mets fan--I was so worried about how hot the Dodgers were, the state of the Mets starting pitching.....I have to admit I spent the first few weeks of the season not believing the Mets were real. But they are. I hope they win tomorrow--they usually do OK against Maddux. And then the Cards will scare me....

I loved Tom Seaver when I was a girl, but I have to admit to liking the cover! :rotfl:

I wouldn't worry too much about the Yankees....Kenny Rodgers stinks. (I will never forgive him for the bases loaded walk in 1999). And they will win this series, I have no doubt. I think they'll win the next 2 games in fact.

A-Rod is a worry. I wonder if he continues to stink like this in the post season if the Yanks will just cut their losses & trade him.

I think this is the year for the A's to get to the next level.

I'll never forget that bases loaded walk in the '99 LCS for the Mets. What an awful way for that series to end, especially after the jubilation of the "Grand Slam single" the night before. And then, of course, Yanks' fans can add his "wonderful" performance in the '96 WS. Then, of course, he was the biggest celebrant at the victory parade. Kenny, it was NO thanks to you. He's a lousy postseason pitcher and a sorry excuse for a human being too.

About the Yankees winning tonight and tomorrow: Your lips to God's ears. I'm like you about this one; nervous!

As for the A's, I'd have to agree. It's now 4-1 in the 4th. I feel bad for Radke. He's a class act and it's probably his last game ever :sad2:

The Tigers are more than Kenny Rogers. Don't forget both teams have old men pitching tonight, and at least Kenny doesn't have a bad back. If he can fend the Yankees bats off I think the Tigers have a shot against Johnson. Don't write them off yet.
Robin M.

I am rooting for my San Diego Padres, although I know the chances are slim now that we are two games down. :guilty:
Oh well, even if we don't make it...the Padres had a great season this year! Trevor Hoffman with the all time saves record, and alot of other great players on the team too. :cool1:

Robin,
I'm not writing off the Tigers by any means. I have a lot of respect for the team as a whole, but Kenny Rogers is a loser with a capital "L". The Tiger who really does scare me tonight is former Yankee Marcus Thames. He has OWNED Randy Johnson in the past and he has been on fire in general right now. If he comes to the plate tonight with anyone on base, I'd like to see the Yankees intentionally walk him.

I heard that Al Kaline is throwing out the first pitch tonight which should be very cool. I only wish that ESPN would show the pre-game festivities. Fox (Tuesday) and ESPN (yesterday) did not show any of these. I enjoy seeing the team introductions and for Yankees' fans, Tino Martinez threw out the first pitch on Tuesday and Paul O'Neill following him. And, of course, we got to see none of this. With Fox, it was more important for us to see an Audioslave video montage. I HATE FOX! (Especially Joe Buck, who is such a tool.)

I'm choked up watching Brad Radke in the Twins dugout knowing he's most likely thrown the last pitch of his career. :sad2:

*sigh* Brad Radke has been my favorite player since he started with the Twins. So sad to see him sitting in the dugout, done. He did so much for the organization.

Now without Radke or Liriano I doubt the Twins have a breath of a chance to take this game and avoid immediate elimiation.

Great Season, Brad! Thanks for taking us this far!

WHEW!

To all of you East of the Continental Divide, please allow me to revel in the A's voctory. No one thought they'd get out of the first round, but they did it!

SWEET SWEEP!!

Congrats to the A's. That is one fine baseball club and will be good competition for whomever they face next.

Allow an old Tigers fan one small indulgence. WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
