MLB baseball schedule is killing me

As many of you may know, the Red Sox are going to the World Series. (I just LOVE saying that). The only problem I have is how late the games start, and how much later they have been running.

In the Boston area, and most of the civilized world, I assume, all people have been watching every minute of these games.

This results in late, late nights. It has gotten to the point where my kids school has stated they will be sending letters home to parents if their children are suffering from the lack of sleep.

I understand that MLB has to accomidate people all over the country (and world, daer I say) who want to watch, and the advertising dollars are much higher for prime time, but these games don't get over until midnight if they only go 9 innings, forget about 14! During the World Series, the ads will be longer and more frequent, too.

Even the weekend games don't start until 7:30, and there's no reason for that, I don't think.

I don't think it's unreasonable for the weekend games to start at 4 or 5, and weeknight games to start at 6 or 7.

What do you think? (and all times are eastern, thank you.)

I agree with you 100%!

These games have been killing me as well, as I sit at my desk at work fighting to keep alert! Not to mention the cranky factor is starting to come into effect...

Please, please MLB have a heart! Normal working people and school children cannot keep these hours. And, in all honesty, if we are this tired, do you really think we are paying attention to the commercials? No way! That's when we can close our eyes for a few brief but wonderful moments!

I just got back from my car; I had a nap during lunch, and it was wonderful.

I think they should have started all the games at 4pm.

This has been stated over and over, and it won't change. TV wants the games on in prime time. They can get more money from advertisers this way.

But I wonder how much of a drop off there is after say 11? That's not really primetime anyways now is it? And 1 or 2 AM certianly isn't, but wouldn't they rather have any extra innings games close to primetime?

OMG do I agree with you, I'm so tired I'm sick today  I can't take another week of the craziness....

On an aside, I have NO idea how on earth the players have kept the schedules themselves...

I can't handle any more of the really late nights. But I have noticed that since the teachers at school are just as sleepy as the kids we're doing a lot more talking about baseball and a lot less work in my classes lately. So even though I'm exhausted, and sick, it doesn't matter. This week has been great. Adrenaline gets you through.
And you can bet I'll be staying up to watch the World Series. After all, it'll probably be another 18 years before they make it there again:rolleyes:

Back in the day...they would

It's all about the money. If you start at 4:00 PM east coast time that 3:00 Central time and 1:00 Pacific time. You would lose a huge audience of folks on in the rest of the country. I agree the weekend games should start earlier. But, it's now about the fans, it's about the money, unfortunately.

Well, you have to consider west coast fans too. At 3PM PST (6 PM EST) they would still be at work.
I was able to go to sleep earlier than the game ended every night but last night. I just hoped for the best. (In all honesty I'm normally a Tigers fan, but I root for the underdog and I want the Sox to get rid of this supposed curse). But last night as I was going to go bed they put Pedro in and he gave up 2 runs, so then I was too nervous to go to sleep.
As a teacher it is nice to spend a few minutes before the bell rings talking baseball with my students (boys mostly) and it was fun to rib the Yankees fans today.
