We always take our 2 poms on vacation with us, and havent been since 2003 , so was getting input on the Kennel at the TTC/MK. Is it still clean and pet friendly and is it still 11.00/night for resort guests?

We have never used that particular kennel. But have used all the others. We love the WDW kennels. Very clean. Great staff!!!!! I think our dog actually misses "going" in the shadow of the EPCOT ball.

Umm..I'm either a bad mom or a really good pet owner because, while I've been separated from my sons before (14 and 11) I've NEVER spent the night away from my dog...and she's 3 1/2 years old!!! Up until now we have been fortunate enough to find pet friendly hotels and plan pet friendly vacations. Well...we are taking our first trip ever to WDW in June. We are staying at OKW. Where can I find information on the kennels at WDW? I know she can't stay in the room with us, poor ol' Walt would rollover in his grave and Mickey would get the sniffles, but I would like the chance to visit her on occasion while we are in Florida. (Leaving her in a kennel in NC is OUT of the question). TIA for your help!

I have a Min Pin too!! He is awesome, but he loves to bark. We usually leave him with a family member. This year, my mom is going to take him. He loves visiting with Mema and her dogs.

There are 5 kennels on WDW property. Though I have never used them, I have found information on the Camping Section of this site, and of WDW site as well. From what others have stated, the kennels are top notch (it's Disney so I wouldn't expect anything else).

The kennels are $9 per night ($6 per day if you take them home at night). You have to visit them and take them for a walk 2-3 times a day. They will feed them the food they use, or you can bring your own. The kennels don't take reservations, it is first come first served. Since we are staying at FW, we are hoping to be able to use the kennel at FW to make it easier to visit.

We did not request a preferred pet loop at the campground, just as we feel it will be easier to leave them at the kennel all day and evening since we will be out early and home late. Usually when we camp, they stay in the trailer with us but we usually only venture off for short periods of time.

You can search for information on the Disney site, or call them and ask to speak with someone at the kennels. I called, and was quite satisfied with the information I received.

I don't know when you are going, but we will be there from 4/16-4/22, and I would be happy to let you know our experience when we return.

I've used both the MGM and AK kennels for my 75lb boxer. He did great and they were wonderful, both clean and well staffed. Both times though it was just for the day, not overnight and not for a long stay. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd leave him for more than a couple of days. The kennels are just basically a large crate. It is not a dog run and the only time they get out of their crates is when you come to walk them. I didn't mind walking him on our day trips since we also stayed in the same park all day. If I was park hopping, or had to do it for days on end, it would have been quite a chore. I would really recommend trying to find a pet sitter in your area for a long vacation. Your fur babies can stay in their own homes that way and they wouldn't have the stress of being locked up in crates for long periods of time. And, you'd be a lot more free to enjoy Disney without having to return to them for walks. I've read on other posts that it can be quite difficult to put them back into the kennels after a walk. It wasn't so bad for my boxer, but then again they were one day trips. Hope this helps.

I,too, am a proud "fur child's" mama. What I do when I go on vacation is leave them at home.

I called our vet and they had a staff member who drives to my home (fortunately I live a couple of miles away from the vet office) twice a day to feed and love my two fur children. She only charges $10 a visit, and the dogs (OOPS! Pardon the expression) . . . the fur children get to stay in the comfort of their own home. They would never go to a kennel being that they are rescue dogs and kennels frighten them due to their life history. The "nanny" also brings in the mail and does a security check on the house. Pretty sweet for me!

However, I do miss them like crazy until I get back home. Presents pour from my suitcase just for them! And I do call the "nanny" throughout the day to check on them. Also, if one of them gets ill, she has a written note from me to take care of any and all medical needs. And being that she works at their vet, this is very comforting!

I think we'll be using the kennels at FW this year. We got a Pomeranian in Sept. and I really don't want to leave him with my father (he wouldn't mistreat him, my dad's 85 and I think Tazz might be a handful for him - besides, he feeds him way too many table scraps!! ). We're staying in one of the cabins, so it won't be too difficult to pop in to see him as we come and go from the parks. I think Tazz will be ok in the kennel. We got in from the Humane Society and he liked it so much there, we take him back to visit them! He is also very friendly towards other animals. I think I'm more worried about how WE'LL manage without him than how he's going to do!

The other way he won't be going is if my neighbor can watch him. I'm not too sure right now though if she can. She has a Chow who is very protective of "his family" (since she is a widow, I think he thinks he is the man of the house ). He is suffering from cancer and I don't know if Simba will still be around in Dec. If he is gone then, I know my friend would take Tazz in without a second thought. I just wouldn't ask her if Simba is still around (or if she was still mourning his passing).

Both of my dogs are used to being crated when we are not home as neither one can be trusted not to chew up the house. So, that being the case, being in the FW Kennel will not be much different than everyday. We usually kennel at home, but at $12 per day, per dog x 10 or 11 days, it can be very expensive. This way, since we are driving, we only have to pay $18 per day x 6 days as the other 4 days they will be with us in the car. Also, the kennel's do have outside runs that they will use. So if they aren't full, there is a chance they can be outside in a run during the day. We don't think it will be a problem to stop in the morning on the way to the park, again at lunch since we will be returning to the campsite to eat, and then at the end of the day before they close.

FW Kennels are some of the best. There are less outside distractions when you are walking your pet and they are trying to do their thang. This probably can't be said as much about the other locales. MGM is probably the worst for room for a dog to go. FW is the best. And you get to use the FW entrances and exits! Avoid all the traffic!

I'm wondering if it might be best for me to contact a private kennel in Orlando. Umm...my mother lives on our way down to FLorida (we are driving down from NC) but since neither Prissy (my min pin) nor Punkin (her toy poodle) are fixed, I don't trust her not to try to breed POO-PINS!!! She has mentioned it on occasion and my DH might strangle her if Windover's Little Miss Priss of Phoenix wound up the mother of...*GASP*...curly headed babies! He's as bad as me when it comes to spoiling our dog rotten...

The pet sitting idea would not work for Prissy. She can't hold her bladder over 8 hours. At home, the longest she is alone is about 5 hours. After that she would...well, just do her business wherever.

Also, the crating at WDW wouldn't work either. She's never been confined to a space that small for a long period of time. I'm not sure how she'd react. I didn't know I'd have to go and walk her to let her use the restroom. She hasn't used the restroom on a leash since she was housetraining. (She refuses to walk on a leash now)....and OMG if I expected her to POOP while tethered to me???? She would probably die of embarassment. I guess I thought a dog kennel would be where she had a nice indoor place to stay with a doggie door to an enclosure outside for her to go and do her business at will - where I could stop by and let her out and play with her when I missed her too badly. Finding something for her is going to be harder than I thought.

I know I sound a bit neurotic...but...well...Prissy is the first family pet my DH and DS's and I have ever had...so we're just slightly attached... and we let her get away with WAYYYY too much stuff. Maybe it's time to cut the lil doggie apron strings and force her to be a..............regular dog.

Why not just stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, Potofino or Royal Pacific you can have your pet or pets stay with you in your room. My DH and I always stay at the Hard Rock for that reason. We bring our American Eskimo dog with us.

'Cause hindsight is 20/20. I've already made and paid for our reservations at OKW. (We rented points from a DVC owner) I had heard WDW had kennels. I was so excited about our first trip to see the mouse...that..well....I assumed the kennels would be as nice as I've heard the WDW resorts to be. I never dreamed they'd be crates and I'd have to leave the parks 3 times a day to walk Prissy. I thought it'd be like a lil puppy hotel, I'd just have to pick which of the five doggie spa and resorts would be closest to our people resort, and whenever we had some down time, or started missing her too badly, we could pop in for some play time. I found out it's not like that...the birds have stopped singing in the background and the stars have been removed from my eyes. I'm now considering checking out puppy hotels (they call 'em bed and biscuits) here in the Raleigh area...... I'm not sure how I'd go about finding a reputable bed and biscuit puppy hotel in the Orlando area.....

I have read some VERY negative reviews of the WDW kennels on the DISboards. They are not typical boarding kennels--your pets are never walked unless you come over and walk them. One poster even had a puppy die there due to being fed the wrong food.

I have had some negative experiences with boarding kennels in my own town. Remember, our pets can't talk and can't tell us that they are mistreated! When I travel, my pets usually stay at home with 3 visits a day from my pet sitter. On rare occasions they stay at the kennel at my vet's office, where I know they get walked and have experienced people taking care of them.

I would not take the chance of letting them stay at an out-of-town kennel about which I knew very little. Like hotels, restaurants, etc., kennels that rely on the tourist trade may not need to rely on repeat business and may not be very good. It's so hard to tell!

Please check out Pet Sitters International and see if you can get a pet sitter to visit (www.petsit.com.) DH and I are pet sitters and people are always so happy when they use us since the dogs/cats/birds/etc.. are very happy when they get home. The WDW kennels are ok (we have visited them) but like others have said they are still in crates, it is stinky, loud and stressful. I just cringe in a kennel type environment though.

I can recommend 2 great puppy hotels in Raleigh.
My favorite is the Canine Country Club & Pet Hotel (pm me if you want address/phone number). My dog enjoys her stay there since she gets play time and treats. They are quite reasonable in pricing.
We used PetsHotel (by the Target on Capital BLVD). They were more expensive---extra for play,treats, and private room with tv. Our dog was okay with them, but you can tell that the Country Club is her preference.

MY POM IS NAMED TAZ!!! Short for RAZMATAZ!!

Well, I live in a small town and I only have 2 vets that board pets and here they only get walked once a day and I dont want that for my pets. I dont have anyone that I can trust to keep my 2 POMS so we take them with us. I would rather have them near me where I KNOW they are walked, and I can see them as much as I want. My oldest POM is very protective and I dont want to have someone else walk him because he might nip them or be too aggressive with them, so I take full responsiblity for my animals and if that means taking them on vacation, then that is what I do! Besides, the ARE MY CHILDREN!

As far as the Kennels at WDW, IMO they are very clean, the staff is wonderful and there is plenty of room to walk them and visit with them. I always take my own food and water and I personally feed them when I visit them. I always ask for a bigger crate and they usually accomodate me if they can. I have never had a problem with the kennels. I would rather take them with me anyday than leave them at home and worry myself to death about them. I dont mind at all about having to go walk them 3 times a day. We just plan it before the parks, after lunch, and park closing, and then later that nite to tell our boys goodnite!

One great thing about the kennels at WDW...if you need or want to go see your pet after the kennel hours, you can have security unlock the door and they will let you in to see your pet! That is great!

last week, and I have to say that the kennel at Fort Wilderness was great. The people that work there are wonderful. Though they do not walk your pet, and close at 8:00 p.m., our two babies were very well taken care of.

We brought out own food down and they had no problems. We arrived promptly at 7:30 a.m. to take them out and exercise them for about 20 minutes. Then would go mid afternoon and then again just before they closed. The crates were very good size for them to move around and not get too cramped. Everytime you take them out of their crates, they put take out the towel, clean the crate, and put in a fresh towel. This was especially good for my JRT who tends to piddle when she gets excited, which she did everytime we came in.

At first they had Pearl (JRT) in the crate above Shadow (Yellow Lab). They found that moving Shadow to a crate across from Pearl caused them to be calmer where they could see eachother. If we had wanted, they could have been in the same crate.

The only kennel that does dog walking is the Epcot Kennel. We were told that was because it was in a remote area. We were also told that even though they require you to walk your dog twice a day, some people check their dogs in and never, ever go and walk them. So the dogs are forced to soil in their crates, and the kennel personnel have to clean up after them constantly. I couldn't even imagine doing that.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. They even got certificates

This is exactly why I'm not bringing my two fur-babies in June. I'll miss them terribly but think they'd hate it and I'd feel so guilty!
