Hoping someone could help give me an idea of how long this would take using Disney transportation... We are going to make a dry run during the first part of our trip, but I was just curious since we're not familiar with FW at all.

We're having breakfast at Ohana at 8:45 and our horsebackriding reservations are at 11:30, we're supposed to be there at the stables by 11. How do-able is this? It's just DH and I and we'll probably get to Ohana early...

The second question is can we make it to the CR by 1 for parasailing after our ride (ride ends at 12)? I figured that's cutting it a little too close?

For the last 3 days of our trip we'll be on the Plat. Plan. We'd sent our itinerary planner our list of requested times, etc. Got our itinerary back and she'd scheduled Ohana for 10:40 and our ride for 11:30?! Now I may not have been to FW yet, but I *know* we couldn't manage that - lol!! We changed it to our originally requested time with no problem; I just wondered if what we'd requested was feasible?

Thanks for any help:D

From the Polynesian, walk over to the Transportation & Ticket Center, and catch the bus to Fort Wilderness. The bus will stop at Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness Settlement, and a few campsite stops before reaching Outpost Depot, which is where you want to exit. Depending on how fast you walk, it could be a 7-15 minute walk. The bus runs every 12 minutes on a fixed schedule, and will take 12-17 minutes to get to the Outpost.

To get to the CR from there, hop on the bus marked "Settlement Orange" and exit out at the Settlement Depot. From there, take the boat to the Contemporary marina. The bus runs every 12 minutes, will take 5-7 minutes to get to the Settlement. The boat runs every 20 minutes, and could take 10-20 minutes to get to the CR.

For both of these, I'd advise you to allow 45-60 minutes travel time. It probably won't take nearly that amount, but Murphy has taken up residence at Disney, so you never know.

very feasible - glad you changed to your original requests though
after O'Hana's you can get on the monorail to Contemp then boat to FW

again get back on boat to Contemp from FW for your parasailing
- an hr should be more than enough time

I don't recommend going from O'Hanas to Fort Wilderness via boat or monorail, as it just adds extra time and extra legs to what would be an otherwise direct journey. If you take the boat to Fort Wilderness, you still need to get on that very same bus that you could have just caught at the TTC.

Im confused - is the horse back riding stable the same as the stable where they keep the Main St horses? near the petting zoo?

we took the boat to FW from the WL and walked over to the petting zoo/horse stable

Take your directions from Chip

I could very well be mistaken, but I could have sworn the stables were at the Outpost Depot?

Thanks Tyler!!!!!! For some reason the thought never occurred to me about going from TTC to FW:rolleyes: That's why you guys are the best!

I don't have my Passporter map in front of me, but I think the petting zoo is at the other end of FW. I remember looking at the map and thinking that it looked pretty far away from the boat dock. DH is dying to see the draft horses (*sigh* city-folk - although I want to see them too ;) ), so we'll be visiting both on our test-run day.

Thanks again:D

From Allearsnet.com:

Do they offer horseback rides at Fort Wilderness?

Guided horseback rides are offered 6 times daily (8:30, 10, 11:30 a.m., 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m.) at the Tri-Circle D Livery at Fort Wilderness. The rides, which cost $32 per person, last approximately 45 minutes. [...] To get to the Tri-Circle D Livery, you can drive to and park in the Fort Wilderness Visitor parking lot and walk; board the bus at the TTC and take it to the Outpost Depot bus stop; take the Fort Wilderness boat from the marina at the Magic Kingdom to the Fort Wilderness marina and then walk to the Settlement Depot bus stop where you'd then board the bus to the Outpost Depot.

So, according to this, you'll want to go to the Outpost Depot.

Also, the Petting Farm is at the Settlement Depot.

Just curious, how long does it generally take on the FW bus from the Outpost Depot to the Settlement Depot?

It depends on how many stops, and what route. The Orange will take on average, 5 minutes.

We got all mixed up when we did the horseback riding. Wish I had asked Tyler before we went. We went to the petting zoo/Hoop de Doo area. Should have been at the other end of FW!!! Took us forever to figure out the bus system around FW. Got to the stable just as the last person was mounting up...barely made it in time.

The advice to go to TTC from Poly is the more efficient route. Petting zoo and horseback riding/tri-circle D are at opposite ends of campground. You'll enjoy the horseback riding. It's very peaceful even in a group. Trip via bus should be about 10 minutes max. Then take bus from ranch to settlement depot to board boat launch over to CR for your parasailing. How fun. Something else to try while at FW in the evening is the carriage ride or hayride. We are planning to do the hayride again this xmas to view all of the lights and decorations guests put up. It is very magical and you don't miss the snow a bit!

Have fun!
