MK parking lot Tram experience -- a Nightmare?

I have a good friend who is leaving this Friday for a first-ever family trip. I'm trying to help her plan. We've always been lucky enough to stay onsite and use the bus system; they are staying off-site and will be driving to the Magic Kingdom.

I've been reading some posts that the Tram system to get you to the MK from the parking lot is a horrible experience (especially in the busy summer months). Crowded, rude people, long wait, etc.

Is this true? And secondly, if it is, there's really no other option, is there? I know she can't park at a resort, so they are stuck enduring it.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

I've used the parking trams many times and never had a problem. I prefer driving to the parks than using the bus system.

I agree with DebbieB. I have never had any problem with the MK tram. However, it has been a long time since I have been to WDW in the busy summer months.

The only other option is to walk.

If they get into the parking lot early enough (about 1/2 to 1 hour to rope drop) they will probably park close enough to walk to the TTC.

Common problem going to the park during the day -- The tram can't get going because there is always one more person running up to it.

Common problem going to the lots at closing time -- People from one chained off channel taking two tram rows so people in the next channel cannot get on.

If the trams had pulldown side walls like the Backstage Magic trams at Disney Studios then it would be easier to cut off boarding and get the tram moving.
