MK opening at 8AM over Christmas week?

The official WDW calendar currently say 9AM-10PM, but looking at 2016 and 2015 hours, MK was open from 8AM-midnight or 1AM from Christmas to New Years. I'm trying to plan our ADRs and am wondering if I should be planning them around an 8AM or 9AM rope drop.

Side bar: love 7am rope drop. It is like candy just falling forever from the pinata. With the exception of 7dmt, everything is easy. And 7dmt is, too, if you are close to the arches at open.

Agree 120%.
We hit two 7am EMH last October. Getting up and going was a little painful but so worth it!

Does that mean we need to be on the bus at 6am? We live in the central time zone, so 7am WDW is 6am for us :-S Maybe if we wear the kids out in the pool and drug them with melatonin (kidding...kind of) we'll get to sleep early enough! We typically commando the parks from close to opening to fireworks, but a 6am start may mean an afternoon nap at the hotel for everyone.

I'm hoping someone can chime in about buses for you, but here is some possibly helpful info. We went recently but were on a monorail resort. The monorail started at 6:30 and that is the one we caught for those morning.

With one more stop on the line before MK, we when we got there we were about 3 rows of people back from the left arch, both days we went. The right arch had more people in front.

I had entertained ubering to contemporary and walking over, but the timing was completely fine for the metro.

We did have the buses the time before that, and we were further back at the arches, but it was completely fine; I just don't remember the timing at this point.

Here is what I will say, the rides at 7 were open and fantastic. But, they were also great at 8! i wouldn't stress about getting there later if it's going to be rough due to the time change. Get a fastpass for 7dmt if you want to ride it and then check out the timing when you get there to see if you want to jump on in the morning, too.

If you really want to try hitting the 7am, you could make it a short day, as you said. Enjoy the park however you set up your touring plan from 7-9:30, get a quick bite, then do your fastpasses 10, 11, and noon. Go back to the resort, eat (or eat before you leave the park), nap, pool, and relax that evening, or, if you have enough energy, head back out.

I rely on touringplans. (Sorry if you already know tp and this is old news..) You can see how much you can do if you plug in what you want to do. I created three plans for emh mornings, one for a 7am start, one for 7:30am, and one for 8am. (I always pick relaxed walking to account for bathroom breaks and the random short stop to look at something.) That morning I pick the one closest to what I feel we can do. I use the lines app inside to adjust as we go.

I make the multiple plans as we don't know if we are going to be able to do it. We did hit it both days we went this last time, but the second day was a struggle, as it was near the end of our trip and we were just getting tired, generally. I felt I was possibly going to keel over on the slight uphill walk to 7dmt, heh. And I was yawning during the ride, thinking how I might fall asleep before it was over!

We've caught buses anywhere between 6am and 6:20am during 7am openings.

Let's put it this way: about the time you're hitting a wall from being up so early, MK will be wall-to-wall people and you're going to WANT to get out of there for a bit. Sounds like a win/win to me!

Our rule of thumb is walking out the door an hour before opening. That typically gets us on the first or second bus out and there in plenty of time.
One thing you might consider is booking a later morning breakfast (right before they switch over for lunch). We tend to have better character interaction as they aren't as rushed and then decide if we are hopping out of that park or heading back to the hotel for a break.

For us mid day breaks are the only way we can do late nights and early morning for our trips.

Unfortunately the ADRs are pretty booked up right now. I was able to get a noon reservation at Crystal Palace. We'll consider heading out for a couple hours after that for some R&R.

How fantastic? Like 10-15 minute wait fantastic? What time of year were you there? I'm trying to be realistic given it's the busiest week of the year for WDW.

We were there the week before Easter Day this year.

So, I will caveat that others may have had different experiences, but for us, no, not 10-15, walk on to 5 min, max for fantasyland*. We didn't do tomorrowland. You might try populating a touring plan with ideal rides you want from 7 - 9 to see what they come up with during your dates. Dumbo was walk on. Pooh was walk on. Little mermaid walk on. Barnstormer was deserted and they let us ride twice. At 8 once we finished the ride we were on we left and went to adventure land and did jungle cruise with little wait (but get there close to the early part of the hour if you want it as it built quickly), and then cris-crossed for thunder mountain and pirates, then haunted mansion and back to a longer wait at thunder mountain for a second ride. I basically followed my touring plan (using relaxed walk and balancing walking with waiting). I think we broke for food and then picked up with our first fastpass during the 10 o'clock hour. This worked extremely well the first day. For our second, splash went down, haunted mansion went down, speedway went down, and space went down periodically all morning, causing a deluge on the remaining rides. We didn't get as much done.

*Except 7dmt- we did have about a 7 min wait, but were one of the first groups to arrive - close to the left arch in front and we walked, as I say to my kids, "with purpose." There were people running, but walking fast still had just the 7 min wait. Once our ride was over, the line was out to the beginning, but I couldn't tell you how long it was, maybe 20/25 minutes as it could have been a packed line or people meandering in with space between.

Was Peter Pan on the 5 min wait list?So basically, in the first hour you got through all of fantasyland with no FP? You're really selling the 7am rope drop ;-)

I looked back at my touring plans; we did PP one day, but didn't include it during emh, we snagged a fast pass. I think it was because at the time, the advice I read was to do either PP or 7dmt as your very first emh ride, but I can't recall for sure. Sorry I can't help you there..

I continue... if you can get to very close to the front of one of the arches before open and can hustle, I mean go past slower walkers, really punch the walk, then 7dmt (or PP) should be fine and will allow you a great fantasyland experience for the rest of the hour.

If you don't think you can get to either of those rides (not near the front of the arches, not able to walk fast), then just enjoy the fantasticness of the rest of fantasyland for the emh hour and fastpass PP and/or 7dmt.

I have done the 7 am emh for both our trips, and will do it again next. However, I will always make contingency 7:30 and 8 touring plans, from touringplans.com, in case of meltdown/oversleep/crisis, etc.

We're fast walkers, but with the double stroller, crowds are challenging to navigate. :-(

Any idea if it's hard to book FP+ on the app the morning of during a busy time like Christmas week? I'm thinking I might book FP+ (at 60 day mark) for PP and 7dmt for early afternoon, and if we get to either first thing with a <10 min wait, then cancel that FP+ and book something else later in the day. Does that seem like a reasonable strategy or will it be hard to get FP+ day of?
