Are we crazy to go to MK on July 4th? I have heard others say that it is a zoo. If so, what other park would you recommend? We have Friday, July 4 and Sunday, July 6.
Thanks,
Duane

I have heard that as well. We plan on a whole day at MGM on the 4th--they have a special fireworks show they only do on July 4th and New Year's Eve.

we will also be visiting disney mgm on the 4th of july...i understand that the magic kingdom is the worst with crowds on the 4th...epcot should be able to swallow up large amounts of people though if you are looking to avoid the crowds...
have fun and maybe i'll see you there....

We were in all four parks last July 4th (Getting the 4th of July pins). MK was by far the most crowded.

We arrived last July 4th in the late afternoon and we activated our AP's at MK so we went in for a bit to see if there were any more 4th of July pins (no such luck) . . .MK was very very crowded. So we didn't even hang out there at all . . . we headed back to GF and went to Narcossees for dinner then watched the AWESOME fireworks from our balcony in our room . . .

I think it all depends on how much crowds you can take . . .for me, there was no way I was even going to try to stay there.

We were there several years ago and every cast member I spoke with said to stay away from the MK on the 4th at all costs. Did we listen?? NO, but do I wish we did. We really could barely move, and it was really hot. It took us forever to get out of the park after the fireworks and we all agreed we would never do it again.

The only time I've been there on the fourth of July, my family was in Epcot because the MK was closed. We were over by Norway and it wasn't to bad because there is alot of space for people to walk around the World Showcase. I'll bet there on the 7th of July YAY

Last year I watched the MK fireworks from they Poly after dinner and then HOOFED it to the monorail and made it to EPCOT in time to see their fireworks. My plan for this year is still coming together. IF I go, I was thinking about this plan for year two. I was thinking I could watch Sorcery in the Sky at MGM at 9 pm and following the foot path to the Boardwalk hoof it to EPCOT to see Illuminations at 10. If I was really a glutton I could then Monorail to MK for the midnight parade, but don't count on that last stop occuring.

Let's see if I understand this so you saying that MK will close because of the crowds on July 4th and nobody will able to get in the park.

Will I be able to stand outside the gates of Majic Kingdom and watch the fireworks outside the gates.

This was may plan get to the park early take a mid -day break come back to MK about 4 be there for both fire works shows. I wonder will I be able to do that.

I am staying at the All-Star Music Resort hotel does that allow me access tot he park even if clesed to the genernal public that's staying offsite.

Crowds does not bother me in at all. I just got done doing a day Music festival that has well over 100,000 people a day.

I will be wearing a lime green Riverbend shirt at the park that day.

Will I be able to get into the park that if leave and come back later.

You could last year. I am not sure they ever closed the parks last year.

NO! We were there last July 4th and MK was packed but if you mentally prepare yourself, it shouldn't be that bad. If you don't like big crowds, I'd recommend staying away from MK on July 4th.
I don't mind the crowds, so I didn't think it was that bad, I had a blast!!

From what I can recall, MK never closed last 4th of July. We entered MK that day around 6:30pm and got in just fine.

Have a great time,

I am almost sure the MK did not close last year for the 4th. I got in about 10 and DH and my son got in about 11:30; we went back in the evening too. It was HOT and crowded. Also anyone looking for 4th of July pins they said there were none but we found them way back by a shop near Liberty Tree house and they had them there all afternoon.

No you are not crazy. We've been to MK on 3 different 4ths of July and loved all of them. IMHO it's not a zoo, it's just a little crowded. The fireworks are at two ends of the park and at times they ring the park with the crowd in the center - you can't get that view from outside the park. Also, the crowd adds to the fun! Last year the crowd chanted "USA, USA..." and it was very emotional.

We love the MK on July 4th. But we just think of it as an atmosphere only day, we just hang out, enjoy the people, eat, etc. The only attractions we try to do are the sit down attractions that can handle big crowds, Hall of Presidents, Tiki Room, riverboat, attractions that we typically pass by on a regular day. We'll get a fast pass or 2 for our favorites, if we're lucky, but our main reason for being there that day are the fireworks. We love the fireworks at the MK for the 4th. It's the most spectacular show we've ever seen and to get the full 360 degree effect you just have to be in the park. The crowds getting out are the worst we've ever seen, but we don't get in a hurry and we just hang back until the log jam on Main Street dissipates a bit.

dbond, Great suggestion on just making the 4th a hang out day instead of actually trying to do a lot of the rides! We'll be there then and I think that's what we'll do...
