MK Obama speech broadcasted?

Yup - this is basically the point I have been trying to make throughout the entire thread. Of course, by saying that, I am...ummm...let's see - childish, immature, egging people on, etc.

Now stop that name calling! Oops... sorry... it's probably not QUITE the same if your target is yourself! :lmao:

I read on another thread that they are capping MK attendance at 23K today. That seems pretty low. I wonder if they will reach that after all the warnings that went out. While it's great that they are offering the hopper option to all today for free, if this was a one day stop for someone, or one day of a very short trip, it would still be a big deal to them.

I think if I did happen to go today, I would still got to the MK. I'm thinking most of the others will go to different parks, so I would bet on shorter lines. I could deal with alternate routes through the park until the speech is over and he is gone. ;)

I can't believe that ppl actually care.

Politics does NOT belong at Disney, any place anytime!!!!!

Didn't see this anywhere but Deb Willis is reporting on FB if you are in the parks and do not have Hopper option you can still hop today only b/c of the congestion at MK. Maybe that will help ease some frustrations of those there.

I thought they might do that -

Liz

There were a lot of political statements on the other thread. Those comments are not allowed on these boards. I suspect this one will be closed down as well because people cannot stop the political commentary.
Thanks! It was so abrupt that I thought I was going to Disboard jail or something.

I understand that if it is your first time and you can't walk down Main Street, that is a bummer but, it is not like it will be closed the entire day. As soon as POTUS leaves, they will open it back up and have the 3 o'clock parade (at 3:30) and all will be well at the world!!!:thumbsup2

Just as an update -
The President's schedule says that his remarks will begin at 12:35. The event will be pooled for TV and will be open to pre-credentialed still photographers and correspondents.
Then he'll go back to MCO and catch AF1 to JFK.
I bet MK will be back to normal by 2 pm.

But, what if that is their ONLY day to spend at Disney World? My very first time, I was 30. My husband and I had come down to visit family. While we were here, we took a spur of the moment day to go to Disney. Magic Kingdom to be exact. I had never been. I didn't think I would ever get back. I know I would have been quite upset if my only day was interrupted for politics.
:

So what? The argument could be made that those same "spur of the moment" folks would be just as upset that their day was ruined for the parade taping, or BTMRR being closed, or a thunderstorm, etc.

LIFE HAPPENS. Stuff happens. Make the best of it and move on. If the worst thing that happens to you in life is that a portion of your day at ONE park at WDW was inconvenienced for some reason, then you're still doing good. The park isn't closed. The rides are all still going. They've even added some stuff to try to make up for it.

Everyone will survive and get over it.

This POTUS is not known to be punctual and he tends to speak for a long time. I'm guessing that it will be closer to 2:30 or 2:45 before the MK is back to normal.

I'm not disagreeing with you. At all. In fact, I agree. However, that doesn't mean there will be some disappointed people today. Just happy I'm not one of them. ;)

BTW...since people simply cannot keep this apolitical and this thread is soon to be el locko, I'm whippin' 'em out!

All together now...

But if someone does their homework, they will know when planning their trip that the parade (the most disruptive of the examples cited) was taping during their trip. Heck, MANY of us just choose to visit another week.

Those options were not available for the folks there now.

I agree with you-being sarcastic.:goodvibes

Oh, lol. Sorry - didn't catch the inflection.
Just a bit fed up with all the talk about what's political.
The is the sitting President of the United States who is making comments on new policy to encourage tourism and help our economy. Disney has been working for this. It helps them. It helps the foreigners who couldn't come otherwise, and that helps our economy.
Very sorry that it will mean some people have to stay off of main street for a few hours - and even more sorry that some people who happen to hate the president have to put up with him being in their favorite park.

yeah...life is SO terribly unfair. Whatever will they DO for those 6 hours that only Main Street is unavailable at the 47 sq. miles that is the Walt Disney World Resort? Those poor people.

You can watch his speech live on Inside the Magic and we were told the park should be back to normal at about 3-3:30p. We have reservations at 5pm at Tony's and were told that we'd be totally fine.

I am very willing to bet if this was a different President, you would not be singing the same tune.

:rolleyes1
