So we've been to Disney many times and have never stuck around and done the Kiss Goodnight at MK~ always leave directly after fireworks.

Does this generally occur 30 minutes after the official closing time? Is there generally a crowd that sticks around and stays?

I think we are making this a goal to do on our upcoming trip. Does the crowd thin out enough to get pictures of a pretty empty Main Street or in front of the castle? I've seen so many pictures like this over the years where there isn't anyone in the backgrounds of their pictures (or maybe one or two people)~ is that possible when the Kiss Goodnight is over?

Thanks for the help! I think this trip is the perfect time to attempt this! My daughter will be 20 this trip and this in on her Disney bucket list.

I'm not sure exactly when it happens. But, each time I've seen it, Main street was mostly empty, but not completely.

I would stop at the bakery or coffee shop, and sit outside and enjoy it.

Kiss goodnight should happen before you are done. It's only about a minute long

I would plan a back up night to see it just in case, since it's a bucket list thing
It does happen most nights but every once in a while it doesn't
They also often do 2 at 30 and 60 after closing

Yes~ I was thinking about that too. We have 3 MK nights~ arrival and then 2 full days~ so maybe we can hit it between those three. Our trip is the first week of June.
She wants to do Kiss Goodnight and some Main Street pictures that are pretty empty~ you know~ sitting in the middle of main street in front of the castle~ the cute picture list is made~ lol Maybe it will work out.

I'm hoping to catch the Kiss Goodnight, but I am a little anxious that cast members will try to kick me out of the park before it happens!

they will not. The kiss goodnight is for the guests viewing. Not CM. They wouldn't have it if they didn't want it seen

Tell her not to get her hopes up of photos of an empty MSUSA. It rarely if ever happens anymore.

It is vastly less people though. Get a bit creative with you camera angle and it can look empty
Uh, we've gone year round in the last 4 years, DFiance is a pro photographer. I stick by my previous statement, esp for first week of June.

I love the kiss goodnight. I try to record it every trip. I like to find myself a nice spot in the hub, sit down, and enjoy. Some times I'll sit there and watch it two, three times waiting for a recording the has minimal noise and people walking through. It's a nice and relaxing way to end the night, take in the surroundings, and it clears out a decent amount of people still in the park so it's not crazy when I do finally leave.

Don’t worry about that. When I was a CM and it got close to the Kiss time, I would start to encourage families who were taking pictures to stay just a bit longer. Back in 2004 when I was there nobody had a clue it was going to happen, so I wanted to make sure they didn’t miss it.
I hope you get some great shots. Unfortunately thanks to the Internet making this info readily available, more people do stick around for it. But it’s worth seeing just to fulfill that bucket list.

Yeah~ I’ve told her to have reasonable expectations. She’s hoping it will be at least very few people there ~ low enough to play around and get some cool shots. The internet is probably making this more and more popular~ which of course is where we heard about it as well and where she got all her picture ideas~ lol

tink --- DO SEE AND STICK AROUND for the Kiss goodnight....it's pure classic Disney goosebump feels. I absolutely love it and it's a must see. JoJoL -- it's just a polite way of MK telling everyone to go and leave the park.

Yes,"USUALLY",at 30,60 and 90 minutes after closing(no guarantees it will happen on that schedule or that it will happen at all on any given night).:)

It is only appreciated by HARDCORE WDW Geeks!:)

You will see most Guests turn around and glance at the Castle when it starts and then immediately turn back around and continue to exit.:)

The Guests who continue to watch it are most likely DISers!lol:)(or "off-duty" CMs(CPers especially!):)

No problem. I stand by mine too. Nothing wrong with different opinions
First of June happens to be when we always catch it because that's when dgd is with us
Maybe is photographers who haven't a clue what a good shot is manage better? Aren't concerned with proper angles or staging, just getting the fewest guests in the shot. You can get very few in your shot and get it so those in the shot are almost not visible. Like the way they can for the tangled lantern shots
Note I've never claimed they'll be devoid of other guests

I bet it's a must see thing for CP at the end of their time
