This is my first post, so bear with me!

I'm plannning a very surprise trip to Disney World to propose to my girlfriend. Two questions:

1) How can I be sure there will be fireworks over the castle? Are they always there?
2) Any other romantic ideas - our trip will be very short because I really want it to be a surprise. I'm a teacher, so my summer schedule is fine, but shes a nurse, and at most will have 4 days off in a row. Anything neat we can cram in there?

They have the fireworks most nights in the summer, much less often at other times. Check www.disneyworld.com for the current times (though even these may change!)

Good luck and have fun!

If you call 1-407-828-3400, Disney will help you with some simple ideas for you predictament. also remember as a Teacher you are eligable for a discount at Swan and dolphin you have to provide your
teacher id and information but it is a great hotel and quite romantic
So it may be worth the extra expence to book there, We stayed there and enjoyed it very
much, not to many children around. More for adults, great resturants...Great pools and a real
nice spa

you could have a very romantic meal inside Cinderella's castle....maybe have the ring come on a silk pillow, then cap the evening with fireworks.

I like that idea Judy! Will they do that? Do they serve dinners there? (I've had lunch there before.)

Thanks!

If you can hold off, wait until the Goodnight Kiss over the Castle---it is the most romantic moment in my humble Disney experience.

Or...after you've ridden the "big" rides, ask which is her favorite, and go on that ride again, proposing at just the right moment...as you climb Splash Mountain, before Dumbo takes off, you know what I mean.

Or...wait on line for her favorite character and let them witness the event, or get in a Princess line, and tell her she is your Princess, etc., etc., etc...

Just a couple of things I have done to be romantic:

...first off tell the hotel your staying at (if it is a Disney resort) that you are staying at that you are planning on proposing chances are they are going to make your stay extra special. Also if you choose to do it at a certain resturant call them in advance and let them know. I did this on my honeymoon at every place we ate and they hooked us up like you wouldn't believe we got free bottles of wine, great views the list goes on and on.

My first romantic suggestion is to get priority seating at the California grill (located on the top floor of the Contemporary Hotel) during the Magic Kindom fireworks (they will be above the castle no worries there. When you check in request a window seat on the north west side of the room you will have a perfect view of the Magic Kindom all lite up and the fire works. The resturant will turn all of the lights out and stop serving food while the fire works are going. This is very romantic and would be a great setting for the big (?).

If you would like a little more secluded setting where you can still see the fire works the docks at the Poly hotel are perfect they have swing chairs you can sit in and not a lot of people were around at all (you don't need to be a guest at the hotel just take the boat over from the magic kingdom and hang around the dock.

You could do the illuminations cruise and pop the (?) there??? Might be fun too busy for me.

If the wedding pavilion is not being used you can take her down there you will most likely be all by yourself...

I have lots more if you would like other suggestions email me. I have done everything that I have suggested and all have been very unforgettable. The key to the perfect preparation is to let the disney staff in on what is going on they will help you make it special I promise...

One of the most romantic moments for us on our Honeymoon was during an E-Night walking from Adventureland towards Tomorrowland... and all of a sudden this beautiful music was piped in... and the lights in teh trees were twinkling.. I would venture to say that there were only a few other groups of people in this area... and my husband and I waltzed and danced through the trees on teh paths - right by the sculpture of Mickey and Walt by the castle... it was soooo romantic... a great memory...

I have also read of people proposing by the wishing well near Cinderella's castle...

After reading phanomouse's Post I printed it out. When I go with my DH
next time I plan on suprising him with a few of them,
We will be celebrating our 45th anniversary and he deserves to take me to
Disney and I will romance him there...Those are the greatest ideas and you are one romantic
Person, Lucky the person you are with, As you go down life's road, always remember to
romance the person you are with,it will pave the road when it gets potholes...I know
outside of being disney deficent my DH is one romantic fool and it has held us together for
45 years of poverty, children.collage, and alas now retirement.now let the good times roll.
in Disney of course.

We just had our 5th wedding anniversary in March and spent it at WDW (our honeymoon was there too)

I had a special dinner reservation at the Castle about 1 hour before the fireworks. Before we arrived for our trip, I called the Wedding Pavillion and ordered the waterford toasting flutes (with mickey ears etched in). They made a note of when we were arriving and held them til then. The flutes and a small white cake were brought right to our table at dessert time. Then they dimmed the lights for the fireworks. Everything was wonderful. Have fun planning, and congratulations!

It's also very romantic to walk the beach at the Poly and watch the fireworks right there... no crowds... then you can take a walk along the water right to the wedding pavillion. It's a very quiet walk.

My husband proposed to me by the fountain outside of Chef du France in Epcot. We had just had dinner there, we had a table by the window where we saw both the parade and the fireworks. It waas one of the most romantic meals of my life, the service was incredible the food was wonderful, the champagne was divine and we stayed quite late so when he proposed it seemed like we were the only two left in the park. I will remember it forever.
Even if that is not the site for your proposal I heartily recommend a meal there anyway.
