Hi!
Staying at SS in January in a studio and the first two nights will be with an AP Discount (Fri & Sat) and the next two will be on points. How will this be treated at check in? We will have to check out and move on Sunday? Or, will we be able to stay in the room as long as we visit the front desk on Sunday morning? Just curious. Thanks for your help!

We're doing the same thing - staying Sun-Thurs on points and Fri-Sat on AP discount. When you check in you can ask them to link the two reservations, but it may or may not work out. You may have to move or you may have to check-out and check back in.

You will need to check-in again. You may have to move or may not.

Explain your situation at check-in and maybe they can keep you in the same room.

Unlike cash reservations made through Member Services, regular Disney reservations (including AP discount rooms) can't be linked to points reservations prior to arrival. That is why you may need to move. But for a great AP discount, I'd take the risk.

One time I did Sunday to Thursday nights at OKW on points and then Friday night on AP rate. They noted the AP reservation when I arrived to keep the same room. On Friday morning, I went to the front desk and got new keys & parking permit. No problem staying in the same room. We got full housekeeping that day.

We have also done this on a few past trips. I always had them note on the AP reservation that we were there Sun. - Thurs. on DVC points and again made sure the front desk knew when we checked in. We also did not have to move, but did check back into our room. :)

It helps if your DVC reservation and AP reservation are in the same name. And get the other reservation number added to the reservation (call MS and give them the AP reservation number)and call CRO and give them the DVC reservation number.

The only time you are guaranteed to move is if you reserve a points reservation for a villa that you can only get on points - BCV dedicated two bedroom with two queen beds; BWV standard; BWV BW view, etc.

Is there a discount rate available to DVC members for cash reservations? (at any resort) How would it compare to AP and AAA?
Thanks

There is a DVC discount on DVC cash reservations. For non-DVC resorts, you'll need AAA or CAA or AP or whatever. The DVC discount is 25% off WHEN it is available. It isn't always available.

OK..so if I'm reading that right, I can't use a DVC discount to stay on cash at the Grand Californian?

Not until they open the villas there. And, again, only if it is available.
