Mixed Marriage 2: The Conversion Continues..... now complete

Because Utahmama said we, the disers, HAD to read your trippie, I printed it all and am gonna spend the evening reading.

I love her, ahem, intro to her upcoming vaca, so if she says it's good, well, I'm holding her too it.

Seriously, I've read bits and pieces while waiting for it to print and I can't wait for my down time....

Hey Twinkie Mama! I'm assuming you went to graduate school at State? (I can't imagine going anywhere else for Ag) I was in graduate school at Meredith about the same time!

sorul82?- yes I did! many of my friends are Meredith grads- I guess it is a small world after all (sorry I just couldn't resist it- I tried, I really did)
We miss Raleigh- especially the easy drive to WDW :sunny:

ps I took me a long time to figure out your name- I got the late too part but couldn't figure out the soru- kept trying to make it sorry- anyway very clever and cute avatar

Thanks, my hubby did it! I'm always late. Even though I set my clock ahead, and do the pre-wake up snoozes for an hour!

I'm sure that we crossed paths somewhere on Hillsborough Street! Hey, I was on Gorman St. today! Had to go to the dentist (see UM's report). When were you at State? I was at Meredith from 89-93 for my undergraduate degree and 1995-1998 for my MBA, which I am just now putting to use! You see, three weeks after getting that hot diploma in my hands, I became pregnant! With TWINS!! BG, and for those who need to ask, NO, they are not identical!! One is a boy and one is a girl. Anyhow, my work plans went out the window. I was soooooooo sick and exhausted and my oldest son,19 mo at the time, suddenly no longer needed naps. :furious: I know all about living on a budget. We had three in diapers for about six months. Oh yeah, my DS6 initials are NAB!

Hey! I was at State from 93-99 :) Your post brings back happy memories of the old stomping grounds...... many a happy meal with friends at Two Guys...
congrats on the twins- I know how grueling that first year can be.... mine are not identical either, and YES I AM SURE! It is amazing how people will argue with you.... :rotfl:

and I am working on the next piece of the story- it is half written and maybe half baked as well

The following is the expressed opinion of TheRealMortimerMouse and in now way does it represent TwinkieMama or TwinkieMama's Trip Reports and Safaris.

Listening to you two talk makes me want to go to Char Grill. I haven't been there in over three years!! Or for that matter, I haven't been to the state fair in that time frame either. And I have ridden a camel and milked a cow there, boy do I miss Raleigh!

The credit for the next piece of the adventure goes completely to DH. As we stood outside of the Tree of Life in the rain which had again tapered off to a light drizzle, DH said to DS “Let’s go ride the river ride and again and get Mommy all wet!” I start to explain that the weather is icky, we will probably have a long line to wait in only to have the ride shut down when we get to the front since their may be a thunderstorm heading in when I look at my little boy- he isn’t sobbing and in fact there is a slight gleam in his eye. If watching Mommy get soaked on the rapids is going to help him forget the attack of the evil bugs, then let’s go. It isn’t as if we are not standing out in the rain already?
We head over and it becomes apparent that there isn’t hardly any line at all… in the middle of the day… in June. The CMs are wearing their rain gear and they smile has they help us onto the raft. DH and I ham it up- as he pretends (well maybe it wasn’t pretend) to try to steer me into the splashes, gushes, and waterfalls- I pretend that it would be a fate worse than death to get wet (nevermind that it is actually raining). We have a great time and by the end of the ride my guys are giggling and conspiring another ride. The CMs overhear them talk about ‘next time’ and ask us if we would like to ride again. :cheer2: Of course we would like to ride again! If you have ever have the chance to just stay on a ride for another turn, DO IT! It is a simple thing but it makes you feel so special- so off we go down the river rapids again! We are having a great time and joking about who will be splashed next. The rain picks up and by the time it is over we couldn’t be any wetter if we tried. There is absolutely no one in line and the CMs are taking bets whether or not their supervisor will tell them to shut down because of storm. We give smiles and thanks all around because no we are a very Happy Family. The rain is coming down but we just merrily squish squosh our way to the park entrance. We feel adventurous and daring as we agree to take the first bus that comes, no mater where it is heading and from that mystery destination we will head to Epcot with some time to kill before our PS (old school ADR) at Teppenyaki.

Oh boy. I sure wish I could have been with you on that one. I love those river rafting rides and to not have to get off a ride at WDW is the absolute best. :cool1:

If we had made any other plans at all we would have had a long wait… as it was the first bus on the scene was to the All Star Sports. So I guess we won’t be passing ourselves off as the Beach Club type after all. Upon a few moments reflection we decide that this was Meant To Be because we are literally making puddles under our feet from drenched clothes and soggy tennis shoes. New plan is swing by the room and change! Fortunately, I had obsessively compulsively researched this trip with my fellow OCDisneyers so I had packed extra clothes and shoes for just such an occasion. :cool1:
So we were talking amongst ourselves when we overheard the little boy next to us, who had his entire face pressed up against the fogged up window, turn and say “Mum- did you bring my jumper? ”
“No Sweetie” she replied. Her voice had that musical quality that only comes from Ireland by way of some other English speaking place (My first best friend’s mom was Irish but moved to Canada as teen- she sounded the exact same way- someone who has lived in Ireland their whole life sounds different.) We are fairly typical Americans who find that any sort of European accent makes you sound much smarter and more attractive instantly.
Which is how DH (who is also comfortable talking to ANYONE) ending up striking up a conversation by telling the story about the first time he heard a tall, manly, Irish coworker wish for a jumper meaning a sweater and DH thought he meant a dress. This lead to whole biscuit vs. biscuit debate and then on to our respective vacation plans
A nice thing about WDW is that you get to meet people from all over and look at things from another point of view. We didn’t travel very far from our home but we are given a chance to meet people from many different places and cultures. They were “on holiday” (some day I want to go on holiday it sounds much more romantic than taking a vacation) for a month but her DH could only join her for the last 2 weeks. They were spending 21 days at WDW and couldn’t imagine how you could do everything in much less time. Our eyes bugged out and we tried not let our jaws hit the floor as we sheepishly admitted we were only spending 3 days at the parks. They marveled at the wonders of driving to the World anytime you might feel like it (fancy that is what she actually said) and not being a slave to transatlantic airfare. They liked the All Stars and Animal Kingdom and highly recommended the water parks. We had a very pleasant time getting to know our new friends and wished them well as we parted ways. Then we squished along to our warm, dry room. (Where is that dripping wet smilie?)
