Once I thought about it that way, I couldn’t contain my glee. DH was conspicuously absent in glee or even half hearted anticipation. When I called him on it he said “I’ll be happy when I get there but why bother now?” Whoa! QUOTE]

Great report so far - and that's EXACTLY how my dh is about trips. He also says "it's too far away to think about now." It drives me absolutely crazy, especially when I have to make ADR's 180 days out and he doesn't want to think of TS's. So then later on, he's like, why are we eating there? Well too bad buddy! Then once we get on the trip, he always says "our vacation is almost over" - whether it's our 1st, middle or last day there. It drives me bonkers!

I am sooo hooked on your report! Can't wait to hear if DS guesses before the big day! (You should truly consider writing short stories for a living - I have an idea I've been pondering for the past 6 months and you are perfect - as a little hint it has something to do with trip reports and pics - pm me if you want to see what I have up my sleeve - others on here think it might be a great idea!)

heaven2dc-you have intrigued me.....
RadioFanatic- I don't think I could handle the whole "our vacation is almost over thing"... that would drive me crazy!

littleteapot-love love love your name! :lovestruc
Shelby5514- You know the little TM in the pic stands for TwinkieMama- right?
seriously, are you available to follow me around Epcot someday? I loved the pics you did for our favorite happyhaunt....

princesslibby- you made me laugh on a day when I needed it- 1000 Twinkie points to you! Don't worry you can spend them in Disney fashion at the gift shop at the end of the attraction- I mean- trip report...

pilferk-um, do you have any job openings where you work? I am multitalented.... and available... for annual work paid conferences to any Disney resort.
Nurse_Mommy4- thanks for handling the virtual medical needs on this thread...

And hordes of dancing bananas to tinkerbellang's mom and all the other grandmas who babysit... especially for multiples!

after I do my laundry, I'll come back and write the next installment tenatively titled
"Oh no!"

BI-annual conferences to Disney. They're at Disney (always the Contemp) every other year (so returning in '08). Still..this year (Jan '07) it'll be at Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa in Fort Myers, Florida, which ain't too shabby either.

What's really nice about them, too, is that unless you're one of the front line medical people (doc or nurse), you're really only going to be busy for the early morning sessions. That leaves most of the day open for hard core disney vacationing. :)

As for openings, I think our dept is full up at the moment. But if you have medical (specifically with the ED, Trauma, or Surgical Critical care experieince)or IT experience......let me know and I'll keep you in mind. :)

Edit: Oh, and you have to be willing to come and live in The Nutmeg State.....which could be the deal breaker in and of itself! :)

TwinkieMama,

I think you need to listen to heaven2dc's idea and go with it. You seem to be a talented writer and you could use all that money that you will make to take your family to the "World" (I still can't believe I just used the word world in that manner) every year. :stir:

The next decision was also fairly easy because I was doing all the planning- so I just planned what I wanted and I wanted to try the Sci-Fi Diner at MGM. My parents used to take my sister and I to the A&W drive through for a root beer float and then to the drive in for a double feature first a Disney Movie and then some boring grown up movie that didn’t matter because by that time we would be asleep in our sleeping bags in the “way back” of our station wagon. Ah the days of drive-ins and no car seats….)
TwinkieMama,

I have it on the best of authorities (myself and my little brother) that the part of the station wagon to which you refer is most accurately called the "back-back." :thumbsup2 I lurked through your first TR, but couldn't resist the urge to correct your station-wagon nomenclature in this one.

BTW, my DW and I paralleled you and your husband during the late 90s and early 00s, with shoe-string budget Disney trips, a wedding, expensive custody battles... you know, the good old days: when men were men, and ex-wives were... well enough of that.

Keep the trip report going, I'm all ears. :listen:

TwinkieMama,

You have me all excited about a trip I have planned to DW with only my wife (we are leaving all of our kids with her mother). It is coming up in a couple of weeks. I guess I should be happy that we are still going. Do you know that she once promised me that if I saved the money we would go to DW for a week. Well, I sold a lot of my junk (as she refers to it) on ebay and was all ready to go and then she refused to go with me! Maybe I am in a mixed marriage too!

You PAY and I'm ready to PLAY!!! ;)

I'm really enjoying your report! I too am in research and have 20 minute "Dis" windows while my assays are running - gotta love it!

I've got your back on the "way back" of the station wagon, I'm a former Midwesterner (Minnesota),though so maybe that's regional!

Keep up the good work, can't wait to read the rest!

So I stand there watching the little gears turn inside DS’s head. He looks thoughtful. I find I am holding my breath. Suddenly I don’t want him to know at all. A surprise is definitely the way to go. Surely he won’t guess- I mean I have been intentionally quite cryptic. And he says

“Well Disney World is bigger than our house. That would be a good surprise but what could the small thing be?’”

Oh noooooooooooooooooo. I have been outwitted by a 6 year old. What am I going to do? He is going to his mom’s house tomorrow. What if she doesn’t return him? Or shaves his head again? Or gets a temporary injunction to prevent us from leaving the state? What am I going to dooooooooo?

And then he continues…
“Well there is nothing small about Disney World so I guess it can’t be that. I don’t know what it could be. What is bigger than our house and small enough to fit in your pocket? An acorn is little. A tree is big.”
Exhale. DH is laughing at me with his eyes. He can do that. I decide to distract them both. With dinner.
Now I am alone again with my excitement. Maybe I can read the boards tomorrow at work. And tomorrow night I need to pack while DS is gone because we are leaving in 4 days!!!

Fizban- It is always great to have someone fabulous around. Maybe the back back is regional because now that I think about it this family we knew in NC called it that. Of course they were a little wierd. Don't worry, we taught them that it was indeed a way back ;)

Mumbler-thanks for the back up! I am from Minnesota too. I guess it is a (insert ride title here)

Mortimer- I love your avatar. I must say I am honored that all of your posts are on my thread. Lots of people here on the dis are in mixed marriages.... there is hope for you! My story isn't over....

pilferk-Too bad for me. I do science but not medicine. My sister is in IT (sort of- more optimization), maybe I could get her a job and keep her company during the conferences. Hmm... I'll think about that. Also I am ignorant because I didn't even know there was a Nutmeg State...

So on Wednesday night, while DS is gone I pack my clothes and his clothes. DH is a notoriously late packer so all I do is nag him. And go over The Plan. His eyes do not quite glaze over.
“You aren’t planning on doing this every year are you?” he says.
“No, but I figure we will go at least 4 more times” I reply.
“We had a wonderful time. But don’t you think we will get bored doing the same things over and over?”
“Sweetie- there are 2 whole parks I have never been to plus Epcot which is like 2 parks in and of itself… plus there are water parks, and resorts to enjoy and nightlife.”
“Nightlife?”
“Yes, people go to Walt Disney World on their honeymoons you know”
“Weird people. I mean; what is the point of going with out kids?”

Since part of having a good marriage is knowing when not to waste your breath, I didn’t say anything. The point was moot. I was only planning trips with kids… for the next few years anyway. ;)

While I was packing coloring books for the road, I started really missing DS. The last time we took him to WDW was a surprise but a different sort since he didn’t even know what it was. I tried to imagine how excited he would be if he knew we were going to WDW on Saturday. He would sit on my lap and let me read the UG out loud to him.

“Honey, I think we should tell DS that we are going to WDW” I announced.

“Woman! Didn’t we just go through this? Didn’t we just decide that it was better if he didn’t know? So he wouldn’t be distracted in school? So he wouldn’t pester us all the way there? Besides I think he won’t figure it out at all."
“Yes but he is smarter than you think. I think he will figure it out as soon as we leave and then he will pester us all the way there. Besides if we tell him tomorrow night it will only distract him on the last day of school which isn’t a real school day anyway. And then he will get to tell his friends where he is going.”
“Ok have it your way but once you tell him you won’t be able to change your mind and un-tell him.”
“Yes, Daddy” I said primly. :teeth: Now how am I going to tell him….

AHHH!!! I'm at the end. I need more :badpc:

Excitedly waiting for the next installment :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

:rotfl2:Your husband sounds just like me! I say this all the time. I had a friend who swore she'd hurt me if my son repeated me and his first words were "Damn it, Woman!" :rotfl2:
